Upgraded SR Partial Audio to Full Premium

I just finished connecting my front tweeters. So far I would say it’s ok, not a big difference like the rear shelf speakers. Also I have the hiss issue as well on these speakers and it is quite noticeable now since it’s coming from the front. Curious to see if you notice any hiss from your...

Upgraded SR Partial Audio to Full Premium

I don’t have this amp, but looking at the manual the yellow wire needs to connect to the penthouse 12v using the 8 gauge wire. This is the amps main power. And the black wire needs to connect to ground using the 8 gauge wire. The blue/white wire needs to connect to VCLeft 12v usually using a...

@Wampa have you tried connecting the front mirror tweeters yet?

Upgraded SR Partial Audio to Full Premium

Just an update, I tried the Pioneer GM-9705 amp and it also has the same hissing issue. So looks like my issue is not related to the SNR.

Upgraded SR Partial Audio to Full Premium

I’ve tried disconnecting the inputs to the amp though and still have the hiss.

Upgraded SR Partial Audio to Full Premium

From reading various websites I think this hiss has to do with this Class D amp having a signal to noise ratio of 70dB. If you look at the Pioneer GM-9705, it has a SNR of 94dB.

Upgraded SR Partial Audio to Full Premium

Well I just got my replacement amp, thanks to the quick delivery of Amazon Prime. But unfortunately it has the exact same hissing issue. I’m not sure if it’s just me being sensitive to this hissing sound. When I’m playing music it sounds great, and I can’t hear the hiss. But as soon as I...

Upgraded SR Partial Audio to Full Premium

I think this depends on the type of music you listen to and how you like it to sound. I personally feel there is a lack of bass in the default SR+ and you have to crank up the EQ on the lower frequencies. So I personally would add the subwoofer. Not sure yet if I will connect the front...

Yes thanks, I think I will go ahead and return the amp.

Upgraded SR Partial Audio to Full Premium

I tried playing around with the gain but the hiss is always there. Also I tried removing the front door woofer speaker input connection to the amp and the hiss is still there. I haven’t tried using a hi lo converter though. Did you use a PAC line converter for the rear door speaker...

Upgraded SR Partial Audio to Full Premium

I may, I just want to sort out the amplifier noise issue first.

Upgraded SR Partial Audio to Full Premium

Yes, someone in another thread compared it to like only listening to music with one headphone. Once you put the other headphone in you get a much richer and fuller sound. It’s kind of like that. So far I only connected the rear deck speakers and subwoofer. I think there is already enough...

Upgraded SR Partial Audio to Full Premium

My previous car was a 2012 BMW 535 with HK premium speakers. I would agree the default SR+ speaker setup is not as good, but after the upgrade of connecting the rear deck speakers and adding a subwoofer, it makes a huge difference and I think it is much better then my previous BMW.

Yes, A,B speakers are installed but not connected in the SR+. Yes, the C speakers are all connected and active.

Upgraded SR Partial Audio to Full Premium

Thanks, also another interesting thing I found is you don’t need the remote wire when using speaker level inputs with this amp. You can try disconnecting the remote wire, fold down your rear seats so you can see your amp power light from outside, close all your doors, and wait 1-2mins, the...

Upgraded SR Partial Audio to Full Premium

Thanks, great ideas! I tried your bookshelf speaker idea and the hiss is still there. I didn’t try an alternate 12v though in fear of blowing a fuse/circuit or something. I believe the only safe place to connect an amp in the m3 is the penthouse 12v.

Upgraded SR Partial Audio to Full Premium

I tried moving the wires around as much as I could and also tried disconnecting the inputs to the amp and the hiss is still there so it seems like it’s coming from the amp. Sitting in the front seat the rear speaker hiss is only slightly noticeable, but if you are in the back seats you can...

Upgraded SR Partial Audio to Full Premium

It will follow where you tap the signal. The rear deck speakers are tapped from the rear door so it will follow. But for the front mirror tweeters if you tap from the rear door it will not follow. You would need to tap the front dash speakers for this.

No luck I still have the hissing sound. I rerouted the power wire away from the speaker wires and also moved my GND to the penthouse ground but still have the hissing sound.

Upgraded SR Partial Audio to Full Premium

Thanks, yes that removes the crackling noise. I guess these ground wires are not needed. I still have a low hissing sound coming from the rear speakers. I’m going to try rerouting my power wire to see if that helps.

Upgraded SR Partial Audio to Full Premium

I bought the same Soundstream PN5.640D amplifier but am getting some noise on my rear speakers. I'm not sure if it's something with my amplifier or my connections. I connected the 3 GND wires from the input wire harness together and connected it to the car chassis GND where the amplifier GND...

Sorry for the late response. Yes just contact your local service center. They didn’t charge me anything to update the avatar.

19 vs 20 in wheels on model 3 non-performance version...

I bought the 20" performance wheels for my SR+ from a private party and had them installed at my local auto shop. So I don't have the rear suspension adjustments, but so far no issues, rides well. Also I had my car avatar updated to display the 20 inch wheels instead of the 18" aero wheels.

    Garage door opener alternatives

I bought it and had it installed at my local service center. I have a home icon now at the top, works great! For the integration and auto open/close features, I think it's definitely worth the price.
