If you're taking delivery from a dealer I'd give em a shout before you leave if possible. But you're probably fine.

An update: just got my vin in source this morning! This is 9 days following order date.

It's my understanding that the VIN comes first, as trade-in and loan stuff can be time sensitive.

I think it varies wildly based on whether or not there's a car already built in your area that meets your spec. My suspicion is that either a) the regional dealers match VINs and schedule delivery as the cars arrive, b) for home deliveries VINs are assigned centrally not long after vehicle...
