    CAN bus

I haven't seen any dbc files for the instrument bus, but in case you haven't already found it, this post links to the most complete description of the messages on that bus that I am aware of.

Tesla open sources all design and engineering of original Roadster

Yes there is more to wish for such as the source code for the firmware and more schematics (PEM and switch pack are high on my list). However, I am grateful for the stuff they already published.

I intended to try just now, but couldn't even find the white connectors. I have the shrouds off, but the connectors are nowhere to be seen! Any suggestions?

Tesla open sources all design and engineering of original Roadster

I don't know, but in essence I would think so regarding Tesla. Apart from choice of software versions and some tweaking of the distribution content it is hard to see the value for them in distributing something else. Others here may know.

Tesla open sources all design and engineering of original Roadster

No it is not the same as the GPS-corruption cable. You need to connect the PC to the can-bus no 4. The published Tesla documentation specifies that one should use a PCAN-USB adapter (Tesla part no 1016990-00-A) and a 4-way breakout cable for the diagnostic port (Tesla part no. 1013716-00-A)...

Tesla open sources all design and engineering of original Roadster

Yes, it is great that they did this. From what I can see, the new stuff now is software for updating firmware, the firmware itself, dbc files (battery and PEM) and a collection of diagnostic tools. They previously published a document on the battery at the same site. There are several...

Tesla open sources all design and engineering of original Roadster

A quick look suggests that the link "Diagnostic Software" is new compared to what we have observed before. It points to a github repository. I found dbc files for the PEM and ESS in one directory and diagnostic software in another. The latter appears also to contain all the firmware. Some of...

    Gruber Roadster shocks?

I am not a "shocks person" either, so I can't say much about how they work. The standard shocks on the sport model have these external reservoir cylinders on the front. So regarding your second question, here you can see how these standard shocks are mounted:

No, that leaves some parts still powered. Pulling the plug disconnects the battery entirely.

In this circle BMS usually means battery management system, i.e. the electronics that monitors and controls the state of a battery pack. The boards in question here are actually referred to as BMBs, battery monitor boards or battery monitoring boards, and as far as I can tell mainly monitor...

    Cooling pump probems

Does anyone know why the pumps in 2.x cars have separate part numbers (2005512 and 2005514) in the parts catalog? The two pumps appear to be the same from what I read here.

Welcome! I am looking forward to the crazy story. I am curious about your car as I tried to make a list of Tesla Roadsters in Norway some time ago based on public sources which are somewhat limited. Perhaps the roadster historians here also would like som info on it. @hcsharp makes the CAN...

The user manuals and toolbox articles are downloadable as pdfs, the disclosed R&D documents as zip-files. Interesting stuff there on alerts to name one thing. There are also hardware details like schematics and pcb layouts. I haven't seen all of this in the wild before. The info under the...

    Error Messages Lists

I have extracted the firmware from the unit that I did the can-bus injection on and looked for differences, mostly without considering whitespace, between what I had in my list and strings found in the firmware. Based on that, I identified and corrected minor typos that I introduced for end-user...

Open Vehicle Monitor System (OVMS) - Technical Discussion

That fits my recent observation. The car has been in my garage for a while and the reported energy increased steadily towards 30kWh until I drove it today. The increase when parked was somewhat less than 1kWh per day. When I parked it again it reported 0kWh on start of the charge and 3kWh after...

Of course, if we are not concerned about the length of the message texts in the OVMS, we could have both joined into one marking the two parts. e.g., E: and D:.
  34. E

    Error Messages Lists

Yes, exactly. Apart from finding it interesting, it is the likelihood of becoming "service" myself that motivates me to dig into technical aspects of the roadster. The current OVMS-implementation with the messages stored in a file on the server can only handle one message per ID. That is why...

    Error Messages Lists

I think the debug version of the messages are usually to be preferred. First of all because many of them do not have enduser counterparts and it is frustrating receiving a push-notification without any idea about what is wrong. Second, for some ranges of IDs all enduser messages are equal while...

    Error Messages Lists

These are the messages that appear on the VDS screen. I only used the OVMS as a tool to inject CAN bus messages that the VDS responds too. I could have used something else, but the OVMS is a very good tool for the task. You can think of my list as a verification and completion of the lists on...

    Error Messages Lists

I have now verified all known codes using CAN bus-injection and summarized the result in the attached file as information to those who may be interested. The debug messages were largely known and contain less news, but I now got all the enduser messages and message color codes too. Since these...

Thanks, I will get in touch. Since my posting, I have been through quite a few message IDs filling in gaps in the information on the hardcoded messages, in particular message color and enduser-message texts.

    Error Messages Lists

    I am having a go at the can-bus injection method mentioned above. I am using the VDS from a salvaged car and an OVMS-module for the investigation. First I toyed around issuing "can can1 tx standard 100 93 01 B3 B4 00 00 00 00" to raise an alert and "can can1 tx standard 100 93 00 B3 B4 00 00 00...

    2.0 / 2.5 Roadster / Roadster Sport Tire Thread

I finally decided on A052 on my car and had them on this summer. They are fantastic compared to my old tires (AD07 front, Michelin Primacy 3 rear) with aged rubber. Install a 4680 pack and remove the PEM?

Perhaps not crazy, but is the idea right? Even if you can get your hands on a bricked roadster, it will hardly be inexpensive. The only time I have seen one for sale, the asking price was about 60% of the typical asking price of a fully functioning one and probably 75% of the lowest asking...
