Model 3 - Vibration Noise from Steering Column Plastic Cover

I've tried that and it was fine to drive as you suggested: remove the shroud, re-assemble the remainder of the dash, then drive around. You shouldn't do it for the long term as the shroud is there to protect the wiring. The shroud doesn't affect any steering wheel / indicator / gearchange...

Model 3 - Vibration Noise from Steering Column Plastic Cover

I should add to the last post that you can't remove the lower shroud without either removing the upper shroud or the steering wheel first. It's quite an ingenious bit of design: if you know the sequence to take and the parts to unclip it's about a 5 minute job. And removing the steering wheel...

Model 3 - Vibration Noise from Steering Column Plastic Cover

Not exactly taking the dash apart: no wiring to disconnect or anything like that. It's four small clip-on pieces to remove (two at each end of the dash) then the whole wood-grain piece along the top of the dash is lifted off (the only major bit of the dash that needs to come away). That's the...

Model 3 - Vibration Noise from Steering Column Plastic Cover

The steering shroud is surprisingly easy to remove and replace. There are several aftermarket steering-mounted displays, and their installation video shows how to get the upper shroud off (no tools required other than a plastic pry tool if you want: I did it without) Once the upper shroud is...

Driving round Australia on Route 1

Thanks for cheering me up in a cold and locked-down Melbourne. Awfully glad I was able to get the Highway One full circuit finished November last year! At least I can look at the photos... Hoped to be out putting more miles on the P3-, but these days more than 5 km incurs a $1600 fee... had to...

First model 3 to circumnavigate Australia

Hi folks, and thanks for your best wishes. I am back home in one piece after completing the circumnavigation, and I can thoroughly recommend it to anyone with a Model 3 (preferably with the 75 kWh battery) and a month to spare. Just got my Model 3 repaired by Tesla - back side window...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

WoodWombat - good luck. Was in there (Richmond) this evening picking up my P3- (brilliant!). They are all frantically busy getting the existing orders out the door ASAP. There were about twenty Model 3's there visible (a mix of Black and White) and as I was pulling out another full car...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

WooHoo.......! Just missed a call from Tesla. Rang back but of course didn't get through. I'm not far from the Richmond Service Centre so I drove over and dropped in. 10 minute wait after explaining the situation politely (delivery due Monday, missed call, is there a problem, can I help?)...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

Unless, of course, you can't buy the car you want in the colour you want. That then can swing Wrapping to be a more attractive option. I very much liked a silver Model 3 with the aero covers also in silver. Changes them from a functional but not particularly attractive look to a mix that goes...

Take a close look at the breakdown of the quote. The key line is "Low Emissions Discount: 25%" Obviously an environmentally aware bonus, totally divorced from the risks inherent in the policy. Good on them! A pity the other RACs don't have the same eco-friendly policy.

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

You don't need 40A three phase: he might say it is too much for your supply to manage. In this situation, a 40A three phase connection is equivalent to having three 40A single phase chargers feeding into the car the same time, which is overkill. Far exceeds the 11 kW. As I understand it, 40A...

Thanks Veda - won't look at the "myshiptracking" site again! It says underway to Melbourne. All others report otherwise... Sydney it is...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

I see ANL Warnambool has left Auckland (I hope I have a 4882XX P- aboard...) but to my surprise I see it is headed for Melbourne rather than Sydney. Does anyone know whether the containers are all being trucked to Sydney, or whether Autonexus Melbourne is getting involved now?

And its not just a comfort thing - statutory requirement to have a working demist heater. So Tesla stuck with the KISS principle. We are lucky here in Australia: we are far more likely to need the (efficient) aircon than the (inefficient) heater.

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

Believe it or not, it's still in our constitution (NZ as a state)! Took a look at it years ago during a visit to Government House in Melbourne. Though I don't think it likely to go ahead... something about underarm bowling? ;) And thanks to all the Kiwis whetting our appetites with your...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

Sorry to hear it, and thanks for the warning - I will set my mental 'safe distance' alert for large ICEicles with huge caravans to 'wide berth'. I won't push the speed hard: out beyond the superchargers, efficiency will be more overall time-effective than dash given that the charging "speed"...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

Got the gear (I hope...) - read blogs from those who have gone before and splashed out on an over-the-top JuiceBooster with 32A and 20A "tails". Pricey (over $2K) but convenient with waterproof connections, and I got the extra 10 metre cable for those "difficult to reach" sockets. All fine...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

Have a doozy of a roadtrip planned (assuming I ever have a car to do it in.... (doesn't time fly when you are having fun WAITING)). Also a Melbournite, just retired, have stocked up on charger accessories, and plan to head off around Australia just so long as the wheels appear before the Wet...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

Filled mine in last week, too, and I now have the second tick in the timeline. My difference is that although I also am going "NO" on trade-in, but it doesn't show that question any more... yours still shows a dialogue box...

Zero chance of Nuclear - it just gets trotted out every so often to keep the Conservative Base happy. Can you imagine the NIMBY backlash as soon as a location was announced? And these mini modular reactors are still on the drawing board. Allow time for regulation, trials, someone else to try...
