Thinking about trading my Model Y for a used Model 3

Y is much less predictable under power in my experience.

    Model 3 Performance/Ludicrous Waiting Room

It was a thing they used to offer. From what I recall it was much cheaper than a "full" performance model. It had the performance motors / software, but standard brakes, wheels, suspension. I think they more or less stopped offering that when the acceleration boost became a thing.

How do I get my %@(*$% cruise control back ??????

With "FSD", you can't do that anymore. The work around is to have a separate profile with FSD disabled. But you can't switch between the modes with just the stalk.

Tesla drops prices on X/S $20k. All colors free. Bye bye resale

And yet Tesla is the only automaker who behaves this way. No one else raises and cuts prices by $20k+ within months. Hell the Plaid is more than $50k less than its peak -- which worked out for me, but I absolutely would be pissed if I bought in at $140k and saw the cuts.

Plaid Drag Racing - Not such a great night

Also curiously, despite the EPC showing the same part numbers for S and X (and even model 3 for that matter) for the ABS/Stability control module, the gateway configuration on my Plaid notes cfg_vdctype:"BOSCH_VDC", while the X LR and model 3 performance I have access to note...

Plaid Drag Racing - Not such a great night

Neither of those are things that *can't* be implemented in a hypothetical Plaid plus. I also don't know if a 5 year old video on the model 3 is really relevant here...

    500 + Mile Range Debate

Only if we use Tesla's inflated numbers. In reality they're middle of the road.

4/3 MC Cable for the Charger

No. Only nm-b is limited to 60c. Most others can go to 90, but it’s rare to have 90° rated terminals. 75 is fair game
  11. terranx

4/3 MC Cable for the Charger

Incorrect. 6 awg mc cable is good for 65A (technically even 75 A if you’re able to use the 90C ratings)

    500 + Mile Range Debate

There's literally several of us who own EVs in this thread who wish for the higher range. Mostly because 500 tesla miles would be closer to 300 real world miles. Also in real world use that Porsche Macan likely gets much better range than the model 3.

You'd need a 1000-base-t1 to 1000-base-t media converter, cable to go from the media converter to the car, and an ethernet adapter for your laptop (assuming no built in ethernet like most laptops these days). INTREPID RAD MOON 2 100/1000BASE-T1 MEDIA CONVERTER AUTOMOTIVE (MATENET CONNECT) |...

Wiki Matrix LED Headlights Retrofit Journey

Functionally? Who knows. But it's not how the connectors and pins and seals are designed. Either the pin isn't seated all the way in the housing or the seal is just shoved behind the crimp rather than the seal being crimped on with the pin.

Wiki Matrix LED Headlights Retrofit Journey

I think the various vendors are attempting to make a harness that can adapt the old taillamp coding to the global, but the proper way would be to update the config and not deal with that. As far as I know none of those harnesses are actually being sold yet either, suggesting there are production...

Plaid S or Highland Model 3 Performance

Plaid has rip your face off acceleration, better suspension, better interior, more cargo space. Downsides are that it's heavier and more difficult to maneuver. M3P is smaller, lighter, more 'tossable'. Personally I prefer the Plaid since the M3P is 4k lbs anyway, and I figure I might as well go...

4/3 MC Cable for the Charger

You can run MC cable exposed and without conduit. But you'd be fine with 6/3 (good for 65A). Or 6/2 even. I had bought the cable for my install from the above vendor. No issues.
  19. terranx

    Cybertruck is a scam.

In theory you shouldn't really need that for a floor mounted gas pedal as opposed to brake / clutch. My old BMW came with a pedal like like this -- not ruberized at all. Pretty much impossible for your foot to slip off since it's floor mounted and also wedged against the center tunnel.

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

Depends on how many of those wouldbe LR orders would just go with the Plaid vs not getting an S at all. Though with all the effort they went through to keep the LR's range above 400 miles, I imagine they want to keep at least that for marketing purposes.

Plaid Drag Racing - Not such a great night

Supposedly the motors each are capable of around ~310kW give or take if the European website is to be believed. That would theoretically mean 1250 hp is achievable *if* the battery is capable of it. I could see something along the lines of a mid cycle refresh happening where they make a carbon...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Hmm, though interestingly both power limits are considerably above what Tesla claims the new M3P to be capable of. Seems to be roughly what would be needed to keep constant power from 20% onwards (especially if they raised the current limit on the Panasonic battery from the original release)...

Discussion: All Season Vs Summer Tires

Well you should never compromise on performance ever. So you need to keep at least 4 sets of wheels and tires and be willing to swap them as weather conditions change. Bright sunny day in the summer - Run Pilot Cups or similar Rain in the summer- Run UHP Summer tires Cool Fall Day with a...

Probably not a *huge* issue, but from those pics, the wire seals don't seem crimped on correctly since they're sticking out of the connectors. This is how it's supposed to be (I made these adapters when retrofitting the lights to my dad's X) Individual Crimp Installed in the connector (green...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I don't see why they'd limit the power in the first place or go out of their way to use the panasonic pack on the US cars if that were the case. I can't find the data at the moment, but from what I recall, the LG packs made less power than the Panasonic packs despite pulling 100A more since...

Modern all seasons are pretty good. More than enough grip in the dry/wet for street driving. And don’t turn to rocks in the cold. I do prefer driving with winter tires in actual snow. But at least with all seasons you’re not ****ed if you get an unexpected snowfall before you switch your tires...

Is the Model S worth it over the Highland M3?

Simply driving a thing doesn’t make your argument completely logical and fact based. In fact, buying a cybertruck tends to argue against one making decisions based on logic or fact. Simply having rear wheel steering does make a car feel like it has a shorter wheelbase. If that’s what you mean...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Cold start vibration is annoying, but at least goes away quickly. If that's the trade off for having the carbon rotors that allow all the other fun stuff, I'm okay with it -- though it would be nice if Tesla actually outright stated so. There used to be a persistent vibration that is more or...

And the reality is Tesla seems to be deliberately limiting the MSLR down low. It would probably be capable of mid 2s, but they probably wanted to keep some distance from the Plaid. This is a power curve I generated for an MXLR. The front motor, which should theoretically be just as capable as...

$150k is decent as a single person, but it's not "buy a plaid without thinking about it" decent. Even at 300k, I wouldn't say it's so much money that you don't have to think about it.

Yeah, 270 is probably about right. I could probably squeeze out 300 if I really try, but the car seems much more sensitive to speed as far as efficiency goes than the 3 was. I doubt real world range for the new M3P will be drastically lower than the old.
