MS Plaid vs Taycan vs EQS

To each their own. All Porsche’s have a cockpit feel which I do not like. I have tested several Taycans though not the CT. Owned a Macan for a while too. It’s not a brand that offers what I’m looking for (and Porsche told me as much when I complained about my new brakes squealing loudly!) For...

MS Plaid vs Taycan vs EQS

https://www.carsized.com/en/cars/compare/lucid-air-2021-sedan-vs-porsche-taycan-2019-sedan/rear/ Use Carsized instead. For its size, Taycan has a very cramped interior and the b-pillar makes ingress/egress difficult. The rear is kids only.

Just a heads up, if you’re going to post a video to your YouTube channel, it should at least be accompanied by a full description.

Solved: Road Noise & Front Wind Noise

Is that actually a thing? That sounds like he didn't want to do the work. As cars age there is more wind noise as the seals degrade.

    Solved: wind noise

You'll probably have to deal with interior of all of the panels too. FWIW, I finally succeeded in my wind noise quest.... by buying a Lexus LS. Would recommend studying those cars for clues.

    Germany bans Cybertruck

Musk is claiming both that this will “win” against all other cars in a collision, and that it will be the safest truck for pedestrians ever made. This has to come from an over-reliance and over-hyping of auto emergency braking technology.

2023 Model Y Long Range Disappointment in boominess after Demo Drive

That was referring to our non-Tesla EV. I believe Tesla removed the low regen option.

High Pitched sound for 2022 Plaid

Yeah thanks for pointing that out. I can still recall this lower frequency whine cruising in my e-tron on the highway. Electrical whine would be more apparent under acceleration. Both as well in my Lightning. :/

High Pitched sound for 2022 Plaid

I've never experienced an EV that didn't have sustained whine. Some are more subtle than others, or take longer for the ear to pick out above other ambient noises. Once I hear it, I hear it every time and it bothers my ears to no end. If you might be similar, EVs aren't for you. Also...

2023 Model Y Long Range Disappointment in boominess after Demo Drive

I get this in Model 3 rideshares, and never felt it when driving my Model 3. I avoid the rideshares at all costs. Wouldn't step foot in a Y either as I immediately felt uncomfortable pressure in the three examples I drove. Same story with my wife driving her one-pedal car. We always have to put...

    Elon: FSD Beta tweets

Tesla is so far behind that they are not even taken seriously by the real self driving car companies. Sorry to throw cold water on FSD, but it’s a scam that deserves the shame it gets.
  12. P

    Elon: FSD Beta tweets

So how is "FSD" these days? Cruise has had completely driverless cars out on the streets all year, hundreds of them if not more. You would hardly know it by the way the cars are driving. Or if you noticed that there wasn't a single person occupying the vehicles.

2023 Model Y Long Range Disappointment in boominess after Demo Drive

If your ears hurt while you drive, apply those fixes ASAP to see if that solves it, or sell and move on. Just my 2 cents as someone who tried to live with it. It just got worse and my left ear no longer equalizes properly. Been to half a dozen ENTs and there is nothing that can be done...

Model 3 clicking sound near the rear wheel area

He must have misspoken. A high quality aftermarket half shaft would be $300-500. I'm seeing used OEM shafts for $125-150.
  15. P

Model 3 clicking sound near the rear wheel area

A half shaft isn’t anywhere near $5k. Were they talking about motor assembly + two half shafts by chance?

Tesla sets charge limit to 90%

Someone on page 1 said batteries last longer than 15 years. Anyone have a source to that? JB Straubel has simply said 15 years. 15 years isn’t that old for a lot of ICE cars, but I’m sure battery longevity will increase with new technologies.

PLAID Raised Emblem Model S Community Input

You underestimate Tesla owners and the Tesla aftermarket's prodigious unparalleled ability to uglify vehicles. This doesn't even come close!

PLAID Raised Emblem Model S Community Input

I would consider a HEMI or Powerstroke badge.

Tesla Overall Build Quality vs. Other Car Manufacturers Currently Building EVs

Tesla is worse, but the legacy manufacturer’s EV build quality is worse than their ICE. Exceptions are the when they build the exact same vehicle as ICE with an EV drivetrain. Legacy manufacturer software quality is very poor, exceptions being Polestar and IMO BMW.

    Plaid Regrets?

I just think it’s crazy to not at least test drive the other premium EV sedans. Unless you’re a real speed freak and must have the fastest thing ever. It’s just one aspect of a car. There was some talk earlier about the acceleration being sterile. EV acceleration to me is impressive, and makes...

Has anyone gone from a 911 to a Plaid?

Would you consider an i7 or EQS? Creature comforts are so much better, but the lack of Superchargers is still an issue..
  22. P

Has anyone gone from a 911 to a Plaid?

Very different genre, but I’m sure it happens a lot like in the scenario you described. I’ve read about 911 owners who were disappointed in the Taycan for its size, weight, and lack of a fun soundtrack. I’d also consider a Taycan Cross Turismo, and maybe the BMW i4. BMW has been really...

2022.20.9 Model S Active noise cancelling Issue

Bummer to hear that it’s so bad. Has anyone tried the Genesis G90 with ANC? In general ANC gives me the feeling of “eardrum suck” so I am a little skeptical of the approach, but who knows.

What is this high pitched cricket like noise?

That’s an incredibly shitty thing to say to someone. I’m a long-time sufferer of these issues, it actually caused some painful hearing hypersensitivity (hyperacusis). It’s a serious problem with electric drivetrains (not just Tesla). BMW and Mercedes are the best at reducing these annoying...

Solved: Road Noise & Front Wind Noise

I have an article link somewhere that supports this, but in addition to sound masking in the same frequency range, lower frequency sounds can mask higher frequency sounds. To your second point, I notice that when comparing the top Mercedes Benz and Lexus cars, Lexus has less wind noise, but MB...

Solved: Road Noise & Front Wind Noise

Love the work you guys are doing. NVH seems like part science, part black magic. Suggestion: look into thick quilted exterior wheel well liners (e.g. current Audi Q5) and air suspension for further reduction of road noise. Air suspension can add another level of isolation.

Reuters: "Tesla readies revamped Model 3 with project 'Highland' -sources" [projected 3rd quarter 2023]

Too bad Tesla hasn’t worked on this. I trust you understand noise because you have been driving a Mercedes of some sort - but I’m done messing with aftermarket mods in the NVH department. Nice work on your Model 3. Seems legit.

How many will look into the F-150 Lightning?

Markups are done. MSRP or walk. I’d also consider the used market of you want to pay less for a truck with a few miles.

How many will look into the F-150 Lightning?

One little touch in the Lightning that I really love is the "Brake Coach." It gives you a rating out of 100% for your use of regen versus friction brakes. Can I also just say also that the blended brake is ridiculously good? It's impossible to detect a difference between regen and friction. Way...

How many will look into the F-150 Lightning?

Sure, if you work within a 50 mile radius you will never miss combustion. I thought it was pretty clear I meant longer distances than 50 miles? These trucks can tow about 150 miles from a 100% charge, which we avoid due to the extra time it takes to charge past 80%. Then infrastructure itself...

How many will look into the F-150 Lightning?

Even a loaded extended range Lightning isn't Porsche money. Maybe a lightly optioned Macan, but nowhere near a reasonable Taycan. I'm seeing Lightnings used quite a bit in the trades already. They have fleet pricing and the ER battery option for the Pro model. Otherwise, it's a fantastic...

2023 Model Y Long Range Disappointment in boominess after Demo Drive

This is true. The difference to my ear is the sound in the EVs is lower pitched and way more intense. I feel pressure in my inner ear over bumps. I spent significant time driving a Subaru Forester recently and had no problem. When not on the throttle under 25 mph it’s remarkably quiet, just a...

Tesla cars with silicon carbide inverters?

Curious if anyone has a list of Tesla cars with silicon carbide inverters. I think they use these interchangeably with non-SiC inverters (e.g. at least some Model 3 have SiC in rear, but not in front motor). Also curious if anyone has a list of switching frequencies for Tesla and/or other...

How many will look into the F-150 Lightning?

Long range towing just isn't going to be a thing for many years. You'll have to budget 1 mile per kWh for moderate highway speeds. That's the best Rivian, Ford, Audi, etc. can do right now. The Lightning has 131 kWh usable. We will need 300-400+ kWh for more comparable towing to ICE, in addition...

    Am I getting rejected car?

I’d say any new car deserves an owner inspection. Learned this the hard way with a legacy brand EV. Just try to note anything out of the ordinary asap.

How many will look into the F-150 Lightning?

I can’t keep up with all of the changes. Before this year Teslas didn’t get credits, and Fords did. Then Tesla slashed prices up to $20k. I went on the site tonight and the Lightning Pro model comes standard with Copilot 360. Bluecruise is a free 3 year trial with all Co pilot hardware. The...

Thoughts on CCS DC Fast Charging?

i7 is a first class EV that relies on a network of second rate chargers. The financial incentive isn’t there for CCS and thus the chargers are often poorly maintained. Electrify America (95% of your charging with a CCS car) sucks all around. You’ll get to your destination, but not without...

    Ear pain/Pressure help

Anyone try the tubing in the door seals? Apparently it's a well known trick to reduce wind noise in pickup trucks.
  42. P

Former Model S and 3 owner. Just got myself the BMW i4 M50.

Model 3 is not a luxury vehicle, i4 is. The difference in comfort and quietness is enormous. If the charge situation were on par with Tesla the Model 3 in its current form would be dead in the water. Hopefully the refresh seriously addresses those issues.

    Ear pain/Pressure help

For anyone interested in the audiology behind what we're all experiencing, my best guess is the vehicles are triggering the Acoustic Reflex.

    Solved: wind noise

It’s just the vehicle design. Go drive a new Hyundai Sonata and be amazed. High frequency EV drivetrain noise just exacerbates the annoyance of wind and road noise. Could I request a model 3 owner record the sound of their vehicle interior while parked, HVAC off? Record the screen, under the...

How many will look into the F-150 Lightning?

The lane keep isn’t as advanced as Autopilot. The positive is you can steer the car while in lane keep, unlike Autopilot. As impressive as Autopilot can be, I prefer the systems from Ford, Hyundai, Mercedes, etc. Common examples include passing semis and other trucks (bias my car away from them...

How many will look into the F-150 Lightning?

I have a Lightning. It’s a truly amazing vehicle, and quite surprisingly among the most luxurious rides available (not material choices or build quality, but ride and quietness). It’s like a lifted Rolls with a bed. Initially I wanted a Pro/XLT but I am so glad to have the extended range...

Teslarati : "California passes law banning Tesla from calling software FSD"

LA Times: Tesla says its self-driving technology may be a ‘failure’ but not fraud

As a former sucker I would disagree with that. Thank god I never bought FSD, but I sure bought the CEO’s promise that it was just around the corner every year from 2015-2020. I generally support Tesla and what they have done to electrify the industry, but the FSD deception is inexcusable.

MXLR rejected, Loveland, CO - mild pressure and mild BSing from the SA to take it

So don’t buy that add on? Bad deal but at least it’s a tangible buy unlike $15k for FSD nonsense. I’ve driven them and there is no comparison. EQS is a true luxury vehicle. Check out the What’s Inside YouTube channel for a direct comparison from a Tesla superfan that switched to Mercedes.
