    Low Voltage battery replacement

Next morning service is pretty special. I had the same warning in my 2019 M3 today, just booked a service and they came back with March 12. I just hope the battery doesn't die completely while I am away from home leaving me needing a tow. The car has also disabled all the USB ports (no...

    Supercharger - Brisbane (Indooroopilly), Qld

The new superchargers are featured in this article Indooroopilly becomes Brisbane’s largest EV charging hub in one week One of the people interviewed in there shares my concerns about how difficult it is to navigate inside that shopping centre car park and the crazy traffic there at the weekend.

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Nobody's mentioned the moved trip data card, which has moved into its own sub-section under the car icon. This is something I previously left visible while I was driving as I found it a good way to measure my energy efficiency. I'm really annoyed it's moved to that obscure location. Also agree...

When did you start to see battery degradation

This is my SR+ for the last 2 years. I've only done 12600km in that time, and it's dropped from 380km to around 345km now. What's weird are the big, sudden drops in range in the first year, with only slower degradation after that.

Petition for government subsidies for EV’s

I'd call it a low/no interest loan. You're not giving anyone money that they don't already have. Just because something is not taxed at your preferred rate does not make that a subsidy. This is not my definition, it's the dictionary's. subsidy noun [ C ] money given as part of the cost of...

Petition for government subsidies for EV’s

Fossil fuels are not subsidised. I continue to see this myth promulgated and it's completely wrong. Unlike renewables which need gobs of taxpayer money to keep them going.

Petition for government subsidies for EV’s

I'd sign something to remove taxes, but I don't see why poor people's taxes should help pay for cars that only well off people can afford.

Turning Bluetooth off - am I being paranoid...

Frankly as an end user I don't give a rat's ass about the technical reasons, I just want it to work. And I say this as someone who's been writing software for 36 years. If it doesn't work properly, it doesn't matter how clever it is, it's no good. Vostok has found something that has shocked me a...

Turning Bluetooth off - am I being paranoid...

Frankly, I don't think it should open unless the phone is right next to the driver's door. Possibly also the passenger's door. The leeway as it stands is too far. Nobody is going to be opening a door unless you're stood next to it, unless you have freakishly long arms.

    Phone unlock very unreliable

I am using a Pixel 2, and it is 99% reliable. There's the odd time when it takes a little longer to connect to the car when I approach, but I think that's down to the phone going to sleep to save power.

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

If you stick to roads with well defined painted lines and minimal curves, it does a good job. It will fail badly on corners if a car is coming the other way on the apex, and it will fail badly when you have a side road on a corner. The TACC also seems to have a hard time on these.

    Melbourne HPWC installation

Exactly this. I got mine installed from a local sparky, similar length of cable run. I also got a 15A socket put in for backup and a complete distribution board rebuild to replace all the old breakers will modern RCBOs. It only came to a little more than what Jet Charge quoted above.

Replacing a Model 3 front windscreen due to a failed chip repair...

My father has worked in the car industry his whole life. He keeps telling me that if I don't want windscreen chips, I should not follow other vehicles too closely. So far the advice has worked.

Check if Smart Summon is covered by your insurance company

Driving and mobile phones The QLD laws are apparently the strictest in the country now. They don't define "driving" anywhere in that page, but I've seen RACQ statements that say you have to be "legally parked" to get away with having a phone in your hand. So if the Tesla is in P mode, it's...

Yes. The only time it doesn't do it is if you set it while doing a speed over the limit, even 1 kmh over.

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

My point seems to have sailed over your head. The cops are breaking the law in their efforts to stealthily trap people. I do agree though, that people should not whine about getting caught. As I've said on this forum before, everyone managed not to speed in their test. If these things worked...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

In Brisbane I've seen them blocking footpaths, forcing pedestrians on to the road, and parking on people's pristine (well, not any more) front lawns. The law does not seem to apply to revenue-hungry traffic cops.

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

It would be an interesting test case to see if all the data that the car logs (or a 3rd party logger) can disprove a speeding ticket.

    Model 3 Charging in Australia

Aye, you both convinced me to get a type2 to type2 cable for my next road trip up north. I wonder why the AC chargers don't have built in cables like the DC chargers?

    ChargeFox EV charging Network

This is a charge I did in December at a V2 supercharger in my SR+. The charge rate started at the V2 max (~130kW) and drops off rapidly once you get to 30% SoC.

    Melbourne HPWC installation

My sparky used 4mm^2 cable for my 32A single phase. I did ask for the 6mm, but he said 4 is fine and rated at 32A. I guess I will get a little more power loss than if he had used the 6, but I would hope that the RCBO is protecting things and it's safe.
  26. H

    Melbourne HPWC installation

Yeah if this was not made clear up front, I'd be pretty mad with them. If the worst comes to the worst you can set it to 32A and get a different sparky to certify it maybe? I was talking about the HPWC → Car cable, not the cable from the SWB to the HPWC. Mind you, it was a warm day when I felt...

    Model 3 Charging in Australia

Is that because the CCS2 was in use?
  29. H

    Melbourne HPWC installation

I don't think this is the case, or at least if it was it's not any more. My sparky installed a 32A RCBO (RCBOs are required for all new circuits now) and 32A wiring. He said the RCBO allows some wiggle room. I've had no issues with it at all, get 32A charging every time. Although I gotta say...

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Excellent list. I'd add one more really annoying action - the unnecessary and aggressive braking when you're on TACC and about to go around a corner and there's a car at the apex coming the other way.

Anyone tinted the glass roof, results?

I had my car done at Solar Style (great guys, BTW, highly recommended) and they were happy doing the roof with the Rayno S9 if I wanted, although I didn't bother as my roof shades do the job nicely. I can put my hand hear them on a hot day and not feel a lot of heat - pushing the material up to...

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

They're still hit and miss for me. I can sit in my garage, while still in park, and say "unfold the mirrors" and it works fine. But as soon as I have moved to R (or D), it recognises absolutely nothing. The green circle moves like it can hear me, but no text appears and it eventually gives up.

    TeslaFi vs TeslaMate

My initial impressions of both are Teslafi has a much better UI experience. The data presented from TeslaMate is via Grafana dashboards on a separate URL. If you've never used Grafana it's quite jarring (I have, and it's still jarring!). However, the Grafana graphs are a lot prettier and more...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

My longest (SR+) drive was a 287km one from Bargara to the supercharger at the Sunshine Coast. Teslafi says I averaged 149Wh/km. I started on 93% and finished on 7% with the range Guess-o-Meter saying 26 km left. So if I'd run from 100% down to 0% that's about 340km total available. The a/c was...

How good are Tesla’s in Australia’s extreme heat?

I think Tesla has a problem with the cabin temperature sensor, whether it be software, placement, or otherwise. If I look at the logs in Teslafi, it shows that the temperature that was set in the controls is what it thinks the cabin is at, and modulates the output accordingly. There's no way...

Model 3 sleeping rather than Charging

I did an experiment last night to test this. I plugged in while the controlled load was active and it started charging. Superchargers in Australia

It looks like a general pin drop to me, and that location is about bang in the middle of the CBD. My bet is the final location will be in or near a large shopping centre in the suburbs.

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

I'd probably enable it if the maps were more up-to-date. About 40% of the roads I use around Brisbane have a different limit to what's shown on the screen. Whenever people complain about not being able to keep to speed limits, I usually shrug and point out that they managed it in their driving...

Model 3 sleeping rather than Charging

I reported this behaviour in a previous thread, it seems it's just a bug in the software really. Unfortunate, but it happens. I keep meaning to try leaving a door open to see if it keeps the car awake (I'm parked in a secure garage) ready to charge on schedule when the tariff comes on. I think...

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Same here, although I wasn't even going fast, just 40kmh on a local suburban road, which is not exactly noisy. I think it may be a bug actually as absolutely nothing was coming up on the display, even with a raised voice.

  47. H

How good are Tesla’s in Australia’s extreme heat?

I am yet to find any controls for the rear vents on the main screen. I always wondered how to turn them on and it was only by accident that I realised they were on with people in the back.

What was missing from your Model 3? (if anything...)

Paint is quite heavy, it's probably done to help economy.
  49. H

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

TACC needs a *lot* more work, let alone AP. The slamming on of brakes at shadows from trees, and slowing to a crawl over a hill crest, are both getting really tiresome.
  50. H

How good are Tesla’s in Australia’s extreme heat?

When I've had people in the back, the seat pressure sensor triggers the rear vents to come on, and then the temperature is a LOT more stable. So much so that I am considering strapping something heavy into a seat!
