Charging hose not releasing fom MX charging port.

Yeah, these are the sort of issues you don't hear about so much when talking about EVs. Tesla has some problems with their connectors. I have found Superchargers disabled a number of times (meaning more than three that I recall) because a bit of plastic sleeve from the car connector broke off...

    Which charger to get?

I almost forgot.... the cable lying on the floor while charging is a bit of a PITA. There is a hanger that keeps the cable out of the way when not in use. About Us I talked to this guy and offered a few suggestions... he had already thought of them and they were incorporated. It's about...

    Which charger to get?

I've read this far in the thread and it seems you have received lots of good advice. It seems there are many, many knowledgeable Tesla owners here. Let me just put my own spin on this. From your statement of driving pattern you don't really need much home charging capability. You didn't...

    Schedule charge then recharge

I have seen my X drop a percent or two before charging again. But that was some months back or more. Software updates keep changing details of how the car works. That's a big reason why I say driving a Telsa is like driving a cell phone with wheels. You just never know what it will do next.

Has anyone tested the decline of power on the P3 with the decline in total battery?

These numbers make pretty good sense. The 0-60 times are all on the part of the power curve that is limited by the motor torque rather than the battery power. That is, the motor output is torque limited rather than power limited. I can't explain the large change at 30% SOC, but the rest are...

Has anyone tested the decline of power on the P3 with the decline in total battery?

The voltage curve for most battery types is sharp near 100% and near 0%. In the middle it is flatter. I've never heard of a difference in internal resistance which is the parameter that would limit current. So the major impact to power from the battery state of charge is the voltage change...

    No VINs in October?

There are no newer trains. They keep running the same rolling stock until the wheels fall off and the wheels don't fall off. Trucks drive 70 mph point to point and the driver has to rest periodically. Trains go more like 30, cars get switched in switching yards (taking days at times) and...

    Autopilot issues common?

The trigger in this case is the relative speed of the vehicle in front of you. If they are going as fast or faster you should be fine unless they are really close. But if the car in front is slower than you, a Tesla sees that as a dangerous situation. I see that often when cars pull across or...

    Auto Pilot Is Dangerous

That is the inherent contradiction of using Autopilot. Not unlike the air traffic control terminals which work very reliably... but not so much they don't want controllers familiar with the backup methods. So once a month they require them to use the backup system (moving little pieces on a...

MASTER THREAD: USB drives that work with Sentry and TeslaCam

BTW, I don't know if testing software has been mentioned in this thread, I expect so, but here's my two cents worth. Before I do anything else I test the drive to see if it is really the size they claim it is. No point in doing anything else if it is a counterfeit/fake unit. I use H2testw for...

MASTER THREAD: USB drives that work with Sentry and TeslaCam

The problem with requiring a six month period of evaluation is most products don't have a lifespan of six months in the stores. Products are frequently replaced with newer and not always better products. So until Tesla learns to specify their requirements in terms of industry standards it will...

    Lumbar Support

I would guess you are either a short person or are still young and can easily adapt to intervals sitting in a seat that forces your body into an unnatural position... or maybe very thin. I am a tall guy and I find the "bucket" seat curvature of the upper back is excessively narrow. Correct...

    Likely MCU Failure (MCU1 eMMC)

I think I would go to arbitration on this issue. It seems odd that the MCU would have anything to do with the drive train. Very odd.

    Battery and Cold Climate

Someone in another thread talked about not charging before you leave in the morning, rather, charging when you get home in really cold weather. This was to charge the battery when it is warmest to prolong its life. This assumes the car doesn't warm the battery when it is plugged in before...

    Battery and Cold Climate

It's not the motors that this heating method depend on. It's the driver circuitry for the coils. You said it yourself, they turn on the driver transistors half way rather than fully. In a motor drive circuit there is no reason to turn on a driver part way since this "wastes" power and makes...

Has anyone tested the decline of power on the P3 with the decline in total battery?

It is to a small extent, but at the track a small difference matters. The wattage of the battery is the current times the voltage. The current available changes only a bit over most of the charge range, but the voltage changes more. When peak charged the voltage is perhaps 5% higher. The...

Has anyone tested the decline of power on the P3 with the decline in total battery?

Capacity and power are two different things. I can fill a 5 gallon bucket from a 1 gal/min tap or fill it from a 5 gal/min tap. Power in batteries is measured in watts, capacity in Ah or Wh which are related by the battery voltage.

    No VINs in October?

Freight trains move very slowly, often averaging only 25 or 30 miles per hour. My dad was a dispatcher and would stop freight trains on sidings two hours ahead of a passenger train so no one would complain of being held up. When a freight train breaks a coupler it takes an hour or two to fix...

    No VINs in October?

Do you mean the issue is the loss of space for model 3 production? My understanding is they cannibalized the model S production line area and combined S and X production on the same line. The old S line was very space and labor inefficient from what I've read.

    Likely MCU Failure (MCU1 eMMC)

I assume everyone is aware that Flash memory (which the eMMC is) does wear. Some Flash memory designs (usually for ids and such inside a microcontroller) are only specified at 100 write cycles. Designs like an eMMC would be designed for 100,000 writes or more. To deal with the wear issues...

MCU failure rate poll; please vote *whether or not* you've had a failure

I agree. It is a significant cost. I don't think I spent any money on my pickup in the first 100 kmiles. I had to do the half axes in the front at 120 kmiles but that was only $1200 or so. I had to do it again at about 220 kmiles and I paid a neighbor $100 and the parts were $300. Shows how...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Absolutely none of that is really correct. At this moment in time, Tesla has the best battery technology available. But in just a few years that can easily change. There is no reason to believe Tesla can ramp up car production while major companies 20 times their size can't ramp up battery...

    No VINs in October?

Yeah, I have. Bought an X in mid 2018 and it has been in the shop some five or more times. That's bad enough, but they won't fix most things. Falcon wing doors won't work correctly. They often don't open fully. Some of it has been explained to me (there's a box the car constructs based on...

    No VINs in October?

Google the "Osborne effect". In fact, when I did that I see there is an interesting prediction regarding BEVs versus ICE vehicles that shows the industry hurting during the transition where ICE sales fall off sooner than BEVs pick up. That could very well happen. In relation to the models Y...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I don't think it is harder for GM or VW to make a profit on EVs than for Tesla. Lord knows Tesla is having a hard time with it. The major auto makers have only dipped their toes because they understand the economics and see the market is not quite there yet. They also know the real market is...

Out of curiosity, what do you hate about your Tesla?

Not only that, when my phone connects to the car I can't use any of the voice features in the phone because I can't hear what the phone is telling me. In Maryland it is illegal to have the phone in your hand, so no buttons can be pressed unless it is mounted to the dashboard or something. What...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I'm not sure you are getting the point. If cars can self drive like this, Tesla should not be selling them. Tesla should be the Uber of self driving cars. In fact, isn't a lot of the research in self driving being done by these guys? Tesla isn't the only self driving developer.

So everything about Leaf sales is because they put electrics in an existing model??? That is not very well supported. To start with the Leaf originally had a very short range. Then it got a bit longer, then a bit longer to where it is still not a trip car, so no point in comparing to any...

How to tell if windshield is well-sealed?

I don't know what piece this is about, I haven't read the entire thread. I just wanted to share my experience that the windshield was replaced at one time and it seemed fine. But only at times of very heavy rain while driving on the highway it would leak. The leak would pool somewhere in the...

If you had any sense at all you would run away from this car. Run hard! I am truly sorry I bought my car. No, it's more like I'm truly sorry I had to buy this car from the Tesla company. It sucks.

    No VINs in October?

Lemon laws only offer a limited amount of protection. For example, I bought my car in Virginia because South Carolina has no dealers and no service centers. The Virginia law requires you to be a VA resident, bought the car in VA and had it serviced in VA. So I would not qualify. I no longer...

Tesla model Y will kill the crossover competition

That is exactly the problem. The range is too short to match the driver's needs to stop. There have been times when I had too much to drink and so stopped before reaching the Supercharger. But I don't want to stop and eat every three hours. I'd like to drive some 300+ miles before charging...

    Buying a used Model X - Advice?

I think you will find trips rather... tedious. In my opinion an EV should have a 400 mile range to make trips as easy as with an ICE. With a larger battery in a model X you still don't have enough range to go the distance you likely would like to go before stopping to refuel. So instead of...

In the context of EV charging renewables will do the job pretty well. But because renewables aren't reliable there will need to be ways of mitigating the difference in renewable energy availability and EV charging demand. Probably the easiest way is simply by managing the demand. Very few...

Out of curiosity, what do you hate about your Tesla?

That's the kind of stupid trade off that ruins the Tesla experience for me. But more than anything else, I hate my tesla because of the many trips I've had to make to the service center and the fact that they refuse to fix problems I can document even if those problems can't be reproduced by...

Everything you say is true... but... They ARE forced to change so they will. At this point the wind is in their sails and they are making headway. Your concern about their capital is very overstated. A large percentage of the car is still a car be it an ICE or an EV. Only the motor and...

What Does This Repair Item Mean?

Yeah, I actually had a phone call with a service tech and he explained that to me. They want to replace the microphone for my problem. I would say the one part i'm sure it's not is the mic because I can use it for phone calls still. But he seemed to be saying there are TWO microphones, one...

Not sure what that means. I agree with all that, except for the fact that Tesla is still be run as a startup. As long as Musk is in control that is likely to continue since he clearly is not interested in anything else. That's not saying Musk has to remain in charge indefinitely. So if...

Elon hopes for a lot of things and I hope to lose 20 pounds before Christmas. What's your point? It ain't happenin'. In 2020 they are going to sell the model Y (with mostly model 3 parts) at a price higher than the model 3. That's not a trend toward a $21,000 car by 2021.

You seem to think that the other auto makers aren't planning to make EVs. That battle is over and done with. I really don't get your point. All the major automakers have announced new EVs. It's not a matter of IF, it's just a matter of WHEN.
