Test drove 2016 Model S P100D; Surprised by sluggish acceleration and weak regenerative braking.

In cold weather prior to the battery warming up, the acceleration is terrible compared to after the battery is warmed up. This is true with all Tesla's but even more so in very cold temps. When it's 70+ degrees outside, it's definitely best to warm up the battery for the strongest acceleration...

Plaid obliterates Sapphire in 3 back to back 1/4 mile runs

Except the 155mph trap speed 🤷‍♂️

Plaid obliterates Sapphire in 3 back to back 1/4 mile runs

Yes, I'm very happy I went with the 19s. The 21s do look better but just like with women, it's not smart to just focus on looks hah..

Plaid obliterates Sapphire in 3 back to back 1/4 mile runs

My 19" stock Pirellis were changed at 34k miles and still had a bit of life left in them.

Just curious, what do you consider a step back in the 2023 from your 2012 ?

Plaid Drag Racing - Not such a great night

Plaid is also my all time fav car. Since I've never even been to a drag strip, I don't really care about the trap speed. However, if you're not going to say it, I'll be happy to: It's not possible for a stock plaid to trap 155 ! If so, we would have seen it by now. Cheers

Plaid Drag Racing - Not such a great night

After thousands of plaid 1/4 mile runs on prepped and non-prepped surfaces since mid-2021, no plaid (without significant weight reduction) has ever trapped 155mph. With all the evidence out there for more than 2 years, it's a little surprising someone at Tesla hasn't adjusted the website to a...

Plaid Drag Racing - Not such a great night

This video was posted last week on the Tesla Plaid Channel. I definitely expected more out of the Saphire.

    2 painful years with a Model S

Most (not all) body shops are super shady and rip-off insurance companies in a big way whenever they can. It's known that many body shops purposely create more damage. They do this to either increase the claim or when possible, try to create a 'total loss' so they can purchase the car at a very...

    Bouncy Suspension Model S

I think the 21s vs 19s make a difference as well. My S with 19s feels different (slight) in comfort compared to when it's in sport.
  11. D

    Bouncy Suspension Model S

I actually felt similar to you regarding the suspension in mine. I ended up purchasing the Unplugged Performance rear sway bar and it made a huge difference. After the install, the car felt more planted, very solid, less bouncy etc. Totally worth the few hundred dollars spent and the 2-3 hours...

    2 painful years with a Model S

Sorry to hear about your experience. My August 2021 built Plaid with 40k miles has been flawless so far. Besides the yoke peeling, I've had no other issues with the car. My car has the 19s, and the tires were replaced at 34k miles.

Original 2012 S Owner considering trade in for 2023 model - questions

I went from a P100D to a Plaid. Besides the better looks and extra performance in the refresh, being able to charge at 250kw vs 150kw was huge. Whenever I was at a 250kw charger, it was frustrating charging at 150kw while the model 3s and Ys beside me were charging at 250kw.
  14. D

2018 P100D vs 2019 Performance (raven) which to buy?

Wow I didn't know Tesla ever included an unlimited mileage warranty. Is it still for 8 years ? The new ones are 8 years / 150k miles.
  15. D

Plaid Drag Racing - Not such a great night

If that were the case, we would have seen a 155 pass by now considering thousands of plaids have been sold in the past 2 1/2 years.
  16. D

Plaid Drag Racing - Not such a great night

I actually don't think 155mph is possible on any plaid without weight reduction. If so, we would have seen it by now. It's really not a big issue to me but just weird that Tesla hasn't changed the website to represent reality which is not 155. I've been paying attention to the performance...

Plaid Drag Racing - Not such a great night

Interesting that on the Tesla website, it still says for over 2 years now that a plaid does the 1/4 mile in 9.23 at 155mph. This always confused me since no plaid (without significant weight removed) has ever achieved 155mph in the 1/4 mile. I'm not questioning the 9.23 but the best trap speed...

    Are bragging rights worth $15k?

Maybe even 3 years of warranty. When you purchase a used Tesla (from Tesla,) you get an additional 12 months/10k miles of warranty.

Any high mileage Plaids with 50k+ miles?

Interesting.. do you remember at what mileage your car was no longer achieving 150mph trap speeds ? What is your exact trap speed these days? Cheers

Would you purchase an older Tesla (2014) that has Free Supercharging?

I would recommend contacting Tesla with the VIN to make sure the free SC will definitely transfer to you. I had a 2016 P100D with free SC. When I purchased the car, I was told the free SC would transfer to a new owner. When I sold the car about 3 years ago, I advertised the car has free...

Any high mileage Plaids with 50k+ miles?

lol I’m not sure but I doubt it. My tires were changed 6k miles ago and the car felt identical afterwards compared to before the tires were changed.
  23. D

Do new Tesla Model S's still have the camber / tire issue?

With a heavy right foot, my 19s were changed for the first time at 34k miles. Never had any issues with my 19s, no uneven wear etc.. The 21s look better but I'd definitely recommend the 19s or maybe aftermarket 20s. My plaid came with the Pirelli Elect and I replaced at 34k miles with the Tesla...

Any high mileage Plaids with 50k+ miles?

Just curious if anyone has 50k+ miles on their Plaid. If so, have you noticed any loss in performance compared to when your car had less than 20k miles? It's true that the older Model S (including my prior P100D) lost some performance at higher miles. However, my 2021 Plaid has almost 40k miles...

    Curbed Model S Passenger Wheels

If the wheels are simply scratched, then you can use some sandpaper and touch up paint to repair yourself but it depends how badly they're scratched. I've repaired curb rash many times and you can barely tell. It's never 100% perfect but pretty close and that's fine because it will probably...

19s solves that. My tires lasted over 30k miles with no issues.
  27. D

    Are bragging rights worth $15k?

My previous Tesla was a P100D. The car felt super quick and would beat most cars on the road from 0-75mph, 30-75, 50-75, etc. but that definitely wasn't the case on the highway from 75mph+. At that time, I also had a 2018 ECU tuned E63 with about 700hp. One evening, a friend and I went to a...
  28. D

    Are bragging rights worth $15k?

My answer is a definite YES, especially at the present time with the price difference of $15k. When I purchased my Plaid in August of 2021, the price difference between the two was $40k. Even then, I thought the Plaid was worth the extra $40k. IMO $90k for a Plaid is a no brainer. Of course...

Tesla drops prices on X/S $20k. All colors free. Bye bye resale

Hopefully yes considering Tesla has known about the yoke peeling issue for a while now. The yoke peeling is the only issue I’ve had with my car in 2 years and 34k miles.

Tesla drops prices on X/S $20k. All colors free. Bye bye resale

When I purchased my 1st Tesla (from Tesla) in 2019, I paid $74k for a fully optioned P100D with 20k miles. The original owner paid $156k just 2 1/2 years earlier. At that time in 2019, a new one was $50k less expensive compared to just 2 years earlier. Since the same thing happened before, I’m...

Tesla drops prices on X/S $20k. All colors free. Bye bye resale

I repaired my peeling yoke with a simple leather repair kit. It took about 15 min. Is it perfect ? No, but you can’t tell unless you stare at it from very close. It definitely looks a hell of a lot better than it did before.

Tesla drops prices on X/S $20k. All colors free. Bye bye resale

I paid $130k lol so yeah it sux. Regardless, I love my car so it is what it is. Only option is to just keep it for many years.

I’ve had mine for 2 years and love it as much today as I did when I got it. I’ve done 4 2500+ mile road trips in the past year and were all flawless (not including 1 speeding ticket.) Car now has 32k miles 🍻

Is ordering page down for new Roadster?

At this point, the deposit amount isn’t the biggest issue. It’s the fact that Tesla will still accept the $50k deposit and there’s still absolutely no production timeline in sight. The entire ordering process for the Roadster is just really bad business. Yeah I agree. The folks that put deposits...

Is ordering page down for new Roadster?

I think it’s strange that Tesla is still accepting $50k deposits. It’s too much money considering it could be years longer if ever.. I was tempted to place a deposit in 2017 but decided to wait. When I see the Roadster reappear on the drop down menu on the website then I’ll have some confidence...

Owners delivery stories, photos and first impressions

That’s one of the reasons I love Tesla. The whole process is efficient and just works. I’d rather not have any contact and don’t need a SA to walk me to my car. My name on the front windshield works for me. No contact means a quick and simple pick up. The days of spending hours at car...

How to make plaid accelerate faster ?

Very impressed with your dedication to turn your plaid into a dragster. A .5 second and 6 mph gain compared to stock is pretty significant. I assume lots of time went into this project. Cheers

    SALVAGE MODEL S/X

So back in 2007, I purchased a Hennessy Venom Viper with 5000 miles from an exotic car dealer in NC.. The car was transported to me and came with a 30 day temporary tag. After about 3 1/2 weeks, the dealership contacted me to let me know they are still waiting on Title etc.. Okay no biggie, they...

    SALVAGE MODEL S/X

Thanks for clearing up my confusion. My P100D was sold after Jan 2017 so I guess that’s why the free sc didn’t transfer when I sold the car. Prior to selling my car privately, I contacted Tesla to make sure the free supercharging would transfer and I was told it would transfer. Well, this wasn’t...

Any Model S Refresh/Plaid owners with the 21” Arachnid wheels regret not going with the 19” Tempests?

Just curious, do you drive with the aerocaps on or off? I typically drive with them off because they look better. However, I recently put the aerocaps on for a road trip and noticed a bit better efficiency.

    Just got in!

Wow that’s impressive. Are you sure the brake pads were never changed ?

Any Model S Refresh/Plaid owners with the 21” Arachnid wheels regret not going with the 19” Tempests?

Which wheels are those ? They look good in 19s actually. Congrats on your plaid ordeal which worked out in the end. ** I received mine about a week after you. It’s been flawless so far..

2021 Refresh Tail Lamp and Charge Port Retrofit Project

I’m super jealous for the few that took the plunge and successfully upgraded to the new taillights. Of course my 2021 came with the older lights which is something I wanted to change so badly in 2022. I just didn’t have the time or patience so I left them alone. Now the old/nasty looking...

    SALVAGE MODEL S/X

Wow it’s such BS that something like that can really happen in 2023. Happy to hear there was a good outcome.. However, the dealership should have taken responsibility right away since they sold a stolen car regardless if their paperwork showed otherwise. Wells Fargo had nothing to do with it so...

    SALVAGE MODEL S/X

Unfortunately the free SC doesn’t transfer anymore when a car with free unlimited supercharging changes owners. Tesla put an end to that a while ago. My P100D had free unlimited SC but when I sold it a few years ago, the free SC was immediately canceled once ownership transferred to the buyer.

    SALVAGE MODEL S/X

It’s definitely illegal. Just not sure how that can happen to a buyer these days with all the tools available (carfax etc.)
