Pic of your Model 3.......RIGHT NOW! [model 3 pictures thread]

It sure makes me nervous to put lumber on the rack. I limit it, and I'll make about three trips for this project.

Tesla Model 3 Front Upper Control Arms

Update: I found a local shop that will install the FUCA. I'll wait until it starts creaking and do it then. Thanks for the tip.

Refreshed (Highland) M3 RWD: Observations from a trip from San Diego to Santa Rosa

This happened to us once, and we took an exit to stop and reset. But we were in the Nevada desert, and there was no highway entrance going the same way. So, we had to backtrack 10 miles!

My only beef with my new "Highland"

As StopCrazyPP says, it doesn't slow much. Disengaging with the stalk would be the same unless you had your foot on the accelerator when disengaging. And don't forget, "You're gonna get a speeding ticket sooner or later, if you can't keep your foot off the accelerator."
  5. PianoAl

My only beef with my new "Highland"

Not sure I understand. I can momentarily tap the brake lightly to disengage with noticeably slowing the car. Do you mean that it will start slowing because my foot's off the accelerator?

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

This sounds threatening, like a mobster. I'd appreciate it if youse pay attention to the road. Would be a shame if something was to happen to your spleen.

My only beef with my new "Highland"

A workaround is to always use the brake to disengage. That's what I do (for other reasons).

Using a leaf blower to clean radiator…

This sounds like a great idea. To be clear, you are putting the leaf blower and the hose in at the arrow?

Tesla Model 3 Front Upper Control Arms

Because the closest service center is five hours away. I'll see if I can find a local shop to do it.

Tesla Model 3 Front Upper Control Arms

Good info. So do you think my strategy of putting grease in every 4,000 miles is ill-advised? If so, I'll get it replaced next time I go the five hours to the nearest SC.

Car wash mode for a 2023 Model 3

When I had mine replaced by a mobile tech, I tested it and started to close it by hand. "No, don't do that," he said, "That's the only way to break it." I don't like the design. It seems fragile, but I guess it's pretty tough.

This is the first time I've seen a Cybertruck. Fun. Big! This was today in Redwood National Park.

Car wash mode for a 2023 Model 3

I phrased that poorly. The SPRAY from the hose can open the charge port, not the hose itself. The water hits the door and opens it.
  15. PianoAl

Car wash mode for a 2023 Model 3

I use it because the hose can make the charge door open. Water can get inside plus I don't want to bump into it and break it.

Car wash mode for a 2023 Model 3

Get in car. Put it in car wash mode. Get out of car. Wash car.

Tesla Model 3 Front Upper Control Arms

I recommend the process described in this video: I did this years ago with a syringe, but it's very hard to push the grease in. With these supplies, it took only a few minutes. I jacked the car up a bit to give me more room, but that wasn't necessary. This is what it looked like filled (I...

Real World Comparison--NMC vs LFP Trip Duration

Pet names? :) Aren't we required to give our cars pet names? What is yours called? Nick has the roof rack and would be less efficient even without it*. Tessie will go on the trip to Denver. *Based on articles online. I can't compare them from my driving because Nick rarely drives without the...

Cat cracked my windshield and roof glass

This would solve it: I used this when our second car was rarely used. It's not hard to put it on, but every day?? Have to say I'm also skeptical that the car can break the glass. The video didn't load for me.

    FSD Warning #1

I confirmed it yesterday. Moving the steering wheel enough to remove the nag does not cause the car to turn. I see what you're saying, but there is enough play in the system to allow you the jiggle the wheel without turning the car. True for both of our Teslas.
  23. PianoAl

Real World Comparison--NMC vs LFP Trip Duration

Perhaps they just overestimate to keep us happy. I know that in almost every case our cars are finished charging 30 to 60 minutes early (at home). That's probably true. I'll bet many don't know that charging is much faster at lower SOCs, and it's more efficient to make more short stops. People...

Real World Comparison--NMC vs LFP Trip Duration

I'm planning our fourth trip from the California coast to Denver, and I compared the estimated trip duration for our two cars (see signature). As expected, Nick will get us there about two hours faster (about 7.5% faster) due to range and charge speed differences. We'll probably take Tessie...

How to See Map in Android App

I realized that last night while falling asleep. Getting old sucks.

Thinking about trading my Model Y for a used Model 3

I'm very comfortable in both our Model 3s, even on twelve-hour drives. The ultrasonic sensors still have an advantage (better audible tones when objects are close). Our 2023 is quieter and feels more luxurious, but that wouldn't be a deal breaker for me.

How to See Map in Android App

When I plan a trip on the Tesla app on my Android tablet, it looks like this: Is there any way to see the map full-screen without the SC stops? I can't drag the list down.

I didn't realize that. Any figures on the percent increase in range?

    FSD Warning #1

The car does not turn when you apply torque to validate that you're paying attention. If you make the car turn, it will disengage FSD.

    Stop music searches?

"Call 911!" "Playing 911 song by Ellise." "No, I need the cops." "Playing Bad Boys song." But seriously, the voice commands work quite well for me.

Highland Front Styling, Better or Worse?

I saw a Highland (aka Refresh) Model 3 for the first time recently, and concerning the shape of the front of the car, I think I prefer the original shape (as in the lower image).

    whining noise at 40 MPH

Yes, I have a whine like that in Tessie (see sig) at some speeds. The sound is from the back. I think the tech is correct. If it were louder and constant I'd be annoyed.

Car Locking: What Do You Think Happened Here?

This isn't the same, because I didn't get an "the doors are unlocked" notification, but I noticed today that I could bring up the app while seeing, from across the parking lot, that the car was locked, and ... ... it shows as unlocked. However, it hadn't updated yet (shows that the car is...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

It's very difficult. Here's how: Make sure you are in Park. Put your foot on the brake. Put the left blinker on. Wait for it to blink at least 10 times! Pinch and zoom in and twist. It doesn't always work.

Rim protection idea against curb rash (Aero wheels only...)

Absolutely. I had Vredestein Quatrac Pro tires and they were wide enough to completely protect against curb rash. I like my Hankook Evos better though.

Found black rubber cap under seat when vacuuming on model 3

I have a box in the garage labeled "Mystery Items." Items like this go in that box in case I ever discover where they go.

Any Idea what is making this sound?

Good video demo. I think you mean creaking rather than cranking--like the sound of opening a door in a haunted house.

MASTER THREAD: Powering house or other things with Model 3

Right. It's a bad term since most of the time the battery will be used to power things, not charge. "Onboard Power Outlets" might be better.

Did Tesla Fix UCA Squeak Issue?

Yes, I did get the schmear. My hypothesis is that I had already gotten some water in there, and it just took an additional 40K miles for it to cause a problem. Or maybe the schmear wasn't effective. The markers are for marking the injection hole so if I need more grease later, I can use the...

Did Tesla Fix UCA Squeak Issue?

Under warranty, Nick (see sig) got one upper control arm replaced and the other sealed. Now, at 85K the sealed one is squeaking.* Did they fix this issue with newer cars, or will Tessie eventually squeak? *I'm going to fix it by injecting grease every few thousand miles or until I need to go...

I counted to "eight chim-pan-zee" today.
  44. PianoAl

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

There's an art to it. Hold the wheel loosely with one hand and look straight ahead and if you need to look away, make glances straight ahead. Do that and you will join the no-strikes club in no time. If you're caught looking at the screen for too long you must both look ahead and jiggle the wheel.
  45. PianoAl

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Interesting. Do you get a strike or just the flashing blue? Is it possible that you were just about to time out from not torquing the wheel when you looked at the screen? I can look at the screen and slowly count to five before I get the flashing blue. I like the new display with bigger...

Got a wall like that here, and I hate hugging it on FSD, especially when passing a logging truck.

Is This What LFP Miscalibration Looks Like?

Good info, thanks, Mon. Sounds like this is a good indication how "off" the BMS can be. IOW, after never being charged to 100% for months, it said the SOC was 69%, but it was really 45%. I'll charge to 100% a little more often--maybe once a month...

FSD 12 Has a mind of its own...

Mine does not do that. Because of a change in lane markings, I always have to End Trip about a mile from home. When I reengage FSD, it makes incorrect turns. If I re-choose to navigate home, it makes correct turns.
  49. PianoAl

    FSD Warning #1

Anybody else seen instances of a strike unrelated to inattention? It may be that while the clueless walker was crossing the street, you were looking around, not looking forward, and not torquing the wheel, and that it was just coincidence that you got the warning right when you touched the...
