Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I don’t follow some of these thoughts. Elon’s skill in using social media is world class. He is masterful , witty, irreverent, fascinating, thought provoking, insightful, kind, profound, hilarious, disruptive, fearless, bold, sharp, cutting, concise and precise. How is this a problem? It seems...

My apologies if I have unwittingly given credence to troll-ish behavior or posts, but I do genuinely appreciate alternative viewpoints to my own. Unlike most of you amazing contributors, I do not spend enough consistent time here to immediately recognize when someone may be chumming the waters...

My experience with FSD beta is very similar to yours. However, I keep reminding myself; It *is* still in beta. I believe the level of functionality lives up to the beta status. It operates in a manner consistent to other public beta products I have used, such as iOS. What I have determined...

I personally appreciate his relatively reasonable response and the somewhat refreshing counterbalance to echo chamber regurgitation. I don't agree with everything cap'n diesel is saying, but do appreciate the difference of opinion. I also think there is a lot of validity to *some of* these...

We have a small livestock farm and have a lot of experience with frequent towing. We bought a 2020 Model X as a placeholder for our Cybertruck and have a fair amount of experience using it as our farm "truck" and towing vehicle for both a 16' aluminum livestock trailer and a 24' aluminum...

I just checked premium on our 2020 Model X in Oregon and it was $30/month MORE than our Progressive policy. ($148/month Tesla Insurance, $118/month Progressive.) Coverages and deductibles are roughly the same. If I ratchet all of the deductibles and coverage amounts to the minimum I can get...

I concur. Synthesis looks good. I believe it is for 6 years and older however. My oldest is also approaching 5 years of age, and I also am in a remote part of Oregon with home schooling the goal for our three. I vote for making this a dedicated discussion thread.

That sounds right, but depending on your account value and margin usage the realized losses when closing contracts combined with current stock price downturn will reduce available margin. You may have less margin available than you started with. At least that is the case for me.

It seems you could roll the strike prices up a bit for next week and wind up with a smaller debit or perhaps a credit?
  15. Flehmenlips

Wiki Selling TSLA Options - Be the House

I suppose. But I also possibly increase the potential size of the loss. And if conditions maintain or worsen, I eventually run out of room to roll. In the meantime it seems I am sitting on that potentially losing position when I could alternatively be starting the recovery process sooner by...

My short legs are -1120p, -1100p, -1080p My long legs are +1000p, +950p, +910p I also have +800p and +840p as protective puts. In addition my core shares are deep underwater as well, which pinches margin harder. It is pretty ugly. Ah the lessons hopefully learned... When I try to roll, the...

A combination of no cash or margin left to work with and very DITM spreads has left me with incredibly undesirable options for rolling. I fear I will be digging a deeper hole and end up losing more if I roll. Whereas buying back the spreads may give me the opportunity to open some new...

I am an abysmal trader. I think I am going to close out my DITM 1/28/22 BPS at max loss and open new ones at this low stock price. Not sure what else to do at this point.

I agree. I say release a "Roadster" or at least "MX Plaid" version of the Cybertruck. Price it at $70-90k, optioned out to $130k. I would still buy two. I currently have a Model X and a Range Rover as my placeholders and they are both in the $120-130k range. I would trade them for two CTs in...

There is no reason to build a $25k car if a $60k car can 'replicate' itself into the equivalent of 5 cars. Like @AudubonB said Elon is quadrupling down on FSD. He is thinking way ahead of everyone.

With all of the rolls from week to week for credits, strike modifications, spread mods etc., it can become very difficult to keep track of exactly how profitable or not your positions are. Does anyone have a good method for tracking this? I don't trust the P/L calculations that Thinkorswim is...

Wiki Selling TSLA Options - Be the House

Buying puts is super helpful with margin. You can also buy back the short leg of a BPS and keep the long leg as downside protection. At this point I am beginning to think a better way to make money in options with TSLA is not to sell CCs or credit spreads, but rather to buy weekly/monthly puts...

Ugh. I am also kicking myself for waiting until tomorrow to roll a couple of my 1/21 spreads. AH indeed looking scary. I was so naïve thinking I could make a decent "passive" income playing this options selling game! Ahahahahahaha! It requires way more attention than my farming job! Elon...

I am very distraught with the current price action. I have the following BPS for 1/21 Exp. that are vexing me: 1x 1100/980 1x 1100/960 2x 1080/950 1x 1050/900 I know I can roll for credit or debit or strike improvement or spread improvement, etc., but right now I feel like I want to take my...

I have so much to learn yet. I don't understand how a BPS that is so far underwater for this Friday expiration could possibly be rolled for a credit (the 1170/1080 1/21)? Can you provide further details so I can deepen my understanding of how these spreads and rolls work?

Try throwing some long puts in an analyze tab and see how it potentially affects your margin requirements, or look at your margin analysis tab and see if some things are getting paired up in weird ways.
  37. Flehmenlips

Wiki Selling TSLA Options - Be the House

I'm thinking something like the BPS getting treated as something else by the margin calculator and splitting it up based on expiration dates lining up. i.e. the long legs get paired with some of your calls, leaving the short legs as naked calls and skewing your buying power and margin...

My cost basis for core shares is very high, $1143. I am considering closing all of my spread positions (at a modest profit) and using the resulting cash/margin position to only sell weekly aggressive naked puts going forward at 5-10% OTM to generate decent premiums, rolling as necessary, but...
