AutoX times on UHP All Seasons vs Stickier tires?

I would suggest Goodyear Super car 3's...As long as you aren't driving them on snow, you'll be OK and they perform well as an Autox tire. They will still wear out quickly, but nowhere near as quick as a 200tw tire. These are also still competitive (especially locally) in Autox. If I had to go...

AutoX times on UHP All Seasons vs Stickier tires?

If it rains you will be in good shape! Kidding aside, I would say at least a couple of seconds. It will be course dependent but you will lose incrementally on all things that require grip (which Autox is like 60s of exploring the friction circle) - Minus acceleration because this car is so...

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

I'm running some fat yokes right now and was running some fat Falkens and have not experienced that. Have you looked to see if there is even minor fraying, rubbing, exposure on your wheel speed sensor wire? Is the sensor secure in the hub? My car had that behavior when my wheel rubbed through...

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

If you are looking for a tire that won't wear out super fast and will still be fast in autox (esp with camber corrections), I suggest the Goodyear Eagle SC3's... I was using those (265's squeezed on 8.5"s in Super Street) and they held up to a lot of abuse. In fact, I used them on my EVX-prepped...

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

That's awesome - Should be fun. I'd love to see a Taycan show up at some point.

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

The only advantage would be to run with other cars (if there are other cars in those classes) - There would be zero advantage otherwise because you would take a PAX hit. Also, it appears EV is not allowed in those classes so I guess it's a moot point! For me, even though I am usually the only...

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

Ultimately you are taking a PAX hit by running either XS class vs. EVX so I would think people would be inclined to not be too frustrated by it even if the car is not "classed" in either XS class. I know in the couple of regions I run, points and bragging rights are typically looked at via PAX...

Sorry all - These were sold a long time ago. My bad!

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

Fully agree about the rear bar comments - I am used to adding a big rear bar to other autocross cars and had that mindset but after putting coilovers on and getting the alignment right, that definitely changed my opinion!

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

I've played with different settings and like others on here, have settled on 50/50 as what feels "the fastest". I have had trouble with rear grip at times when running anything less than 50/50 which is fun to get a little drifty, but not fast. Going to my MPP Arms and Shocks made a world of...

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

I saw that - such a nice price. Definitely let us know if you get them how they are - I have seen lighter cars on these performing very well (competitive with Falken/Yoke). Hopefully they release a 285 or 295!

2021 AutoX Points season log. 2019 Performance on Mountain Pass Performance parts.

I highly recommend the 275 square setup with the RT660's. the 275 Falken is more like a 285 (it's huge!). I am going to hold off on tires for a bit and see if Bridgestone brings a new tire over here for next season. Kumho is also releasing more sizes of their tire so I am also curious about that...

    Autocrossing first time in M3P

I’ve been driving around all summer with my car at -3.5 in the front (on the primacy tire) and they show no signs of wear. A lot of the driving is around town making turns so that probably helps (compared to if I was doing 50 miles a day on the freeway). I definitely recommend the mountain pass...

2021 AutoX Points season log. 2019 Performance on Mountain Pass Performance parts.

I'm a week late (we went on vacation RIGHT after the event) but the Hoosier Challenge went pretty well. Out of 140 competitors I ended up 3rd on index (behind a back-to-back SCCA National Champ and another Nat-level competitor) by .3 (7th overall on raw time). This was my first race on concrete...

2021 AutoX Points season log. 2019 Performance on Mountain Pass Performance parts.

Nice results guys! I've got my last "big" race this Sunday - The "Hoosier Challenge" (all of our SCCA regions in the state compete for the top region). This will be my first race with my full EVX setup on concrete.

Tesla removes regenerative braking strength option

Have you driven one on ice? I speak from experience - On slush/ice, hopping off the throttle to slow down has caused significant loss of grip and lack of stability.

Tesla removes regenerative braking strength option

I agree - I still don't know what people would do in this situation. I turn mine down when I have to drive on ice/snow because it can create an unsafe condition in the regular setting.

Question on kind of roughness on gas pedal when coming to stop / starting

I think this is what is happening also. I always feel that little click and it's just the brakes.

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

It's so much better. Seriously transforms the car. My car has so much more mid corner steering now. Where the front end used to give up, the rear end will start rotating on power (I run 50/50) power. I have to do some pretty silly/hamfisted stuff to get it to understeer at this point!

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

From watching the video (and racing against numerous C8's in my region), it looks like you had enough acceleration zones to lay down power incrementally quicker. The last bigger event we had on concrete was my first FTDI (in SS form) and I think it was due to a "S" section in the middle of the...

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

You are not k Looked smooth! I had another event this past weekend. I joke, but I don't think it's completely a joke - Another great result but I made a mistake each run in a "you choose" section that probably kept me off the top of FTD and FTDI (embarrassing!). The course was asphalt and is...

Choosing the Right Enkei PF01's for a M3P

Are you thinking you have diameter issues tripping the TC? That is interesting - I am on 275/35 right now (for racing) and was on a 255/40 and have not had issues. Regarding the 265/40 - I have run Goodyear SC 3's in this size and I think they look pretty mean honestly (just my opinion though)...

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

I know I would never build my car to full STU spec - That is one thing I like about EVX is it does keep things more street/daily friendly. A full STU build would be a monster.
  25. RacerChris

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

I definitely think it would be a competitive dog which is why I think it should be in STU haha. I think it would be course dependent and honestly, probably a good fit. At nationals, the STU top 4 were 114.3-114.6, the fastest ASP Tesla was 114.8 for comparison.
  26. RacerChris

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

STU allows 295 for AWD - They made some nice tire adjustments to the the ST classes somewhat recently. I think they realized that a lot of street class cars were running wider tires than what ST was allowing!

The quest for wider wheels and tires, 295, 305 and beyond...

I really think the Supercar 3 is a great tire- I think it is probably 9/10ths the tire a Yoke/Falken/RE is. The really great thing about the SC3's is the durability, especially on the shoulders. When I was running in SS trim, these things just took an absolute beating and still have a lot of...

The quest for wider wheels and tires, 295, 305 and beyond...

One other thing I'll add on efficiency (for those who care ha) - Compared to the Goodyear Eagle Supercar 3's, in 265/40/18 (larger diameter), these were around 330wh/mi compared to 300wh/mi for the Supercar 3's at freeway speeds (it was a bit windy though so that may have played into the numbers).

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

Just thought I'd post an action photo from this past weekend - NOT a very M3-Friendly course (GS and HS cars were in the top three spots - very tight), but the car was still able to get FTD. The surface was very dusty and awful. Either way, still fun and learned a bit more about setup (would...

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

I've also wondered if they (the SCCA) would consider adding the M3P to STU - I think that could be a potential fit. It will be interesting to see the PAX adjustment of STU vs. STR with the absolute beat down that STR did at Nats (I'm not sure how much weight they put in the Nats vs. other races...

The quest for wider wheels and tires, 295, 305 and beyond...

Sorry I don't have a direct side shot of the car, but here are a couple that hopefully give you an idea - I think they look awesome (I have received many comments from ICE drivers who said the same)...Also, the action shot is from the race this past Sunday....Was more like a rally than autocross!
  32. RacerChris

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

Hopefully the EVX class will be a National class before the Electric Porsche 718's come out (I have a feeling those will be very tough to beat - And probably a true fit for SS as well)
  33. RacerChris

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

Absolutely! I just checked and was running 5/5 for the front, and 4/4 for the rear (clicks from full stiff). I am thinking of keeping that for this next race on asphalt (will be lower speed and probably somewhat dirty surface). For higher traction concrete, I am probably going to go 4/4 and 3/3...
  34. RacerChris

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

So my observation from watching a couple of videos of the layout - These courses definitely didn't cater to the acceleration of our cars; The speed was in the range of 40-60ish the whole time (it did not look like there were any digs at all) with a lot of slaloms. Looked rough!
  35. RacerChris

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

We are starting to see some of the results from the Nationals rolling in and it looks like the crazy classing for the Tesla is hurting it quite a bit. In SS, the fastest M3 did a combined time of 120.2. The fastest BS cars were in the low 116 (or 115 if you count the winner)...Looks like it...
  36. RacerChris

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

I only have one race (it went very well) on my setup and the car was fantastic. I went a little stiffer than the low-grip setting (a couple of clicks), with the front end one or two clicks softer than the rear end. My last race was on asphalt with my 265-width tires. I am going to go stiffer as...

M3P - Who switched from a (true) sports car?

I came from a 2009 Boxster a couple of GTI's, and a C5 Corvette (only used for autocross). I have a model 3 stealth now and can say that in stock form, it feels responsive due to the low center of gravity (reminds me of my Boxster). The ride reminds me of the GTI only a little softer/cushier...

The quest for wider wheels and tires, 295, 305 and beyond...

I can confirm the 275/35/18 660 fits on my +25. These tires seem very wide for a 275 but I think as some have mentioned, a 2mm'ish spacer might be needed in the front (on my stock base model rotor). I can't wait to get this thing out on course!
  39. RacerChris

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

Nice Happy to tell you I just installed my 275/35/18's and drove around a few miles doing some moderate dynamic driving. There were no issues or anything. One other thing I'll add is there are some people running Hoosiers that are ~ 1 inch smaller in diameter (<25") and I have not heard any of...

Odd and (I suspect) common tire wear

I'll just add, these cars obviously accelerate so effortlessly, that I think it contributes to wear pretty quickly (ask yourself "how often are other cars pulling away from me at a light?"). Dynamic (cornering hard) should actually wear the outside shoulders more due to the camber gain of...

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

Have you been able to find rivals in the right size? I had considered those as well (I've had some experience on them - they are sticky gumballs but felt they had less "feel" than Bridgestones)

2018 Stealth Performance - Lost track mode (and red underline) with latest updates [resolved]

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

I am going to go with A052's next season but I am going to wait - There are still rumors floating around of a new Bridgestone that may come out (though it has been a while since hearing those rumors). My hypergrams just arrived and I'm going to finish the season out with some lightly used 275...

Performance Model 3 Vs. Audi RS3

This is a perfect example! Engines take time (especially small displacement) to build power. Electrons are now. They are perfect for impatient people like me.

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

I haven't used anything - I just keep it washed and waxed (with that said, I do kind of wish I did a clear vinyl wrap on the front because I have a small ding from a stone hitting the car while on the road - not autox).
  46. RacerChris

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

ASP is definitely stacked- That is impressive those 295's fit. I've heard with Hoosiers, a 295 is like a "295"

How do those 295 Hoosiers fit? Also, good luck at Nats!

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

I work in manufacturing so I'm around this kind of stuff a lot....The plastic push clip vs. a bolt and metal bracket, and the time to sub-assemble it was a good cost savings and quality improvement probably. I like the plastic push clips because of the weight savings (kidding!)
  49. RacerChris

Performance Model 3 Vs. Audi RS3

The thing that is most mind blowing for me with electric is the accessibility to power. In the RS3 (or any high powered turbo car), you are going to need to work for it a little... The M3P, you just literally step on it...no lag, just pure thrust. If you do a lot of high-speed pulls at...
