    UK FSD Discussion

What exactly do you mean by “autonomous cars”? Cars that can achieve Level 5 autonomy without any restrictions such as geofencing? Cars that, as the Musk keeps promising, don’t need pedals or a steering wheel? There’s no way we’ll see that anywhere in 2026 or for a long time after. For all the...

    Model 3 Highland Performance

The new Performance has left me a bit cold. After all the rumours about “Plaid” and “Ludicrous” the very slight increase in performance is disappointing. The upgraded suspension and better seats are welcome but for me the whole package isn’t worth an extra £10k. It would have to come down by at...

    UK Pricing piss take

The term “Rip Off Britain” has been around for decades - long before Brexit.

    Harry’s review of the highland…

He did make a couple of major bloopers. In explaining the price difference between the RWD and the LR he said that the LR costs 25% more just for a bigger battery. No - you also get an extra motor and all wheel drive. Later he kept on talking about “radar cruise control”. He clearly doesn’t...

    Battery won’t charge

Yes, it all looks fixed. I’ve driven about 400 miles since I picked it up and the range and performance is exactly what I would expect. Tesla weren’t letting me keep the loaner over the weekend though. On Saturday morning I got a message (while I was in Rugby) reminding me to bring the car in...

    Software updates

Someone claims the wipers are fixed or at least improved after every single update and it never happens. I won’t hold my breath for this one because asphyxiation doesn’t agree with me.

    Battery won’t charge

Well I was expecting my car to be ready on 26th April but just had a message to say it will be ready at 11am today. Invoice shows HV battery replaced at a cost of £8,658.33 and AC cable replaced at a cost of £165.00. While great service the timing is a bummer because I’m supposed to be leaving...

DNO electrician installed wrong main fuse

This day an age it’s really not hard to reach and breach 100A. We have a 22KW Andersen charger and three 10.8KW showers. Run all these together and the load is more than 230A. We have a three phase supply and luckily the fuses are 100A each so we still have some spare capacity for all the other...

    So… Highland is out…

But BYD still experienced a 13% sales growth of BEVs in Q1 2024 compares to Q1 2023 while Tesla suffered an 8.5% fall. I’m no market analyst but I’d be willing to bet a small fortune that BYD’s sales will comfortably beat Tesla’s in 2024.

Finally getting second EV - any hints?

My two daughters both drive Zoes and love them. We have a 3 phase electricity supply and a 22Kw Andersen charger, so charging them at 22Kw takes no time at all. Just as well because there are four EVs in our household. Just a shame my M3 is limited to 11Kw.

Tesla reduces output of Y and 3 in Shanghai

It would have been better if the thread had not gone off topic. It’s supposed to be about reduced production at Shanghai, not a symposium about climate change.

    Battery won’t charge

I hope you get sorted soon. My app tells me the estimated repair date for my car is 26th April. That’s fine - I’m saving 250 miles a week on my car and enjoying free supercharging. The loaner I’ve been given is a 2019 M3LR - not the Performance I’m used to but perfectly adequate. The charge...

    Battery won’t charge

I just sent a message asking for an update because my battery was running down and within 5 minutes I had a reply inviting me to drop my car off at Chester SC and pick up a loaner. Arrived at 2.20pm and left less than 10 minutes later in a loaner. Very efficient.

    Battery won’t charge

Tesla have identified that I need a new HV battery. As my battery was running down Chester SC invited me to drop my car off and pick up a loaner. Great service so far. As I can enjoy free supercharging I’m not really concerned about how long the repair takes.
  15. H

    Battery won’t charge

I’m really hoping that mine doesn’t need a new battery, but all I’ve heard from Tesla so far is “parts may be needed”. I’m presuming your car is still under warranty so have you been provided with a loaner? I still need to drive for work and my battery is now down to 42%. I may need to drive...

    Battery won’t charge

Yes that was exactly the message, and my car is a 2021 model. Thanks for the info - I’ll add it to my service request.

    Battery won’t charge

When I came to drive my car this evening I was presented with a message “Unable to charge - Maximum charge level reached”. Battery was at 65%. I returned home after a couple of errands and plugged in with the car at 61% and it wouldn’t charge. Rebooted the car but no difference. I’ve logged a...

    [UK] 2024.2

It does make me laugh that after every update someone will claim the wipers have been fixed, usually after one short drive. Your experience is exactly the same as mine. Motorway spray when there is no actual rain is a particular problem - the wipers are worse than useless.

Test drive of a petrol car

“ Let’s not exaggerate and pretend filling an ICE car is hugely inconvenient. You fill up when you’re out and about anyway - maybe shopping at the supermarket and filling up at the station on the same site. With pay at pump you can be in and out with a full tank in less than 5 minutes. That’s...

    [UK] 2023.44

Yes, definitely. A few years ago a software update was something to look forward to and usually included a significant upgrade. Now updates are coming think and fast, some are so bad they are swiftly withdrawn and some seem just to correct bugs in the previous very recent update. Frankly I find...

    2024 Insurance Costs

To better understand your undoubted annoyance would you care to reveal the cost of your policy? It might make an interesting comparison.

Because you are wrong. My policy includes 90 days comprehensive European cover as standard.

    2024 Insurance Costs

It’s £300 and six points per fine and you could be banned after being caught twice. And what if you knock down a child and have no insurance to pay for their ongoing care and medical needs? I applaud you for thinking only of yourself. It’s heart warming to see how altruistic people can be.

    Sainsbury's Launch Own-Brand Charging Network

No, I wouldn’t bother at all. I’m really not so desperate for free juice that I’d plug into a 7kw charger for 30 mins. Yes, I’d be prepared to pay 75p/kw because, as I said in my post, I rarely use public chargers, only if I really need to so the price is irrelevant.
  25. H

    Sainsbury's Launch Own-Brand Charging Network

I can’t agree. If I’m going to get a meaningful charge at 7kw I’m going to have to spend at least a couple of hours charging. At Sainsbury’s or even at a retail centre I want to be in and out as soon as possible. 10 minutes on an ultra fast charger would be vastly preferable to hours on a 7kw...

Hertz in the US discontinueing Tesla's from Fleet

The same CEO probably made the 25% EV target by the end of 2024, which has now been abandoned. It’s impossible to say the 2030 target is guaranteed, and given that EV adoption seems to be slowing I’m very sceptical it will happen. Only time will tell.

China’s BYD takes Tesla’s EV top spot

As I said in my original post the title is the BBC headline. People can explore the news behind the headline to get the full story if they are sufficiently interested. What is clear is that BYD sold more BEVs than Tesla in Q4, and they’re going to sell a LOT more than Tesla in 2024.
  28. H

China’s BYD takes Tesla’s EV top spot

The news report only referred to the last quarter not the whole year so it is correct. There’s no doubt BYD will exceed Tesla sales in 2024.
  29. H

China’s BYD takes Tesla’s EV top spot

This was the headline on BBC news just now. I presume it means BEVs and not hybrids as well. Had to happen sooner rather than later.
  30. H

    TACC random slowing down

That is exactly my experience and it’s getting worse. While I never expected Level 4 autonomy anytime soon I did think there would be steady, incremental progress over the years. I didn’t for one second imagine that after four years of ownership FSD would actually be worse. So much for “progress”.

    Tesla Vision

I don’t think the average Tesla owner is in the slightest bit interested in any of that now that ownership has gone beyond early adopters. What you can’t deny is that the Musk has come out with an unbelievable amount of utter crap over the years, especially about autonomy. Just a couple of...

    Tesla Vision

It certainly doesn’t work when the rear camera is obscured. And especially in winter it’s obscured a huge amount of the time, rendering it completely useless.

    Tesla Alternative?

In the interests of impartiality you might also want to point out that the topic isn’t why Tesla’s are great either. Let’s not be too one sided.
  34. H

    Tesla Alternative?

@MrBadger answered your points pretty comprehensively but in addition: 4. Other companies offer longer warranties. Kia’s is 7 years or 100k miles. 9. I presume you were joking? 10. Teslas are not as comfortable or refined as a car in this price range should be. 11. Crap auto lights - not even...

Model Y Demo Drive in US

I think your suggestion has fallen on deaf ears. I’m non the wiser about MY but I’ve learnt a lot about healthcare 😄

    So… Highland is out…

It’s just a shame that vision is such a pile of shite. Driving 160 miles on the motorway yesterday and as usual my wipers were completely useless when there was no actual rain but loads of surface spray. I had to switch them to manual and that meant I couldn’t use AP. Well done Tesla.
  37. H

    So… Highland is out…

When? It’s nowhere near being the best car in the world right now.

    Instavolt

I stayed in Coniston in September and the only charging option there was a couple of 7KW pod points at the boating club. They were always busy. Once again it was Instavolt who came to our rescue, this time in Ulverston. The SuC network is great if you’re on a long journey, but irrelevant if...

Autopilot is getting worse, not better.

No, I get that all year round.
  40. H

    So… Highland is out…

Efficiency is not top of my list - comfort and refinement are more important to me. I’d sacrifice a fair bit of efficiency for more soundproofing and whatever else it takes to improve refinement. My M3P is horribly noisy at motorway speeds.
  41. H

    So… Highland is out…

As long as Tesla are able to stick to their timeline, and their record isn’t good. I’d imagine the Cybertruck must be about due for a refresh. Oh, it’s years behind and hasn’t been released yet. And forget lack of indicator stalks. According to the Musk a massive fleet of robo taxis, with no...

    V4 Supercharger -UK

You can stick your fingers in your ears and start singing “nah nah nah nah nah” but it’s still game, set and match 🤣🤣
  43. H

    V4 Supercharger -UK

Yes, I agree about not blocking 2 bays, but apart from that V4 seems all about encouraging non Teslas to use them. Which is anything but an advantage for Tesla owners.
  44. H

    V4 Supercharger -UK

So what is the advantage of V4 over V3 for Tesla drivers? The two main upgrades seem to be PAYG and a longer cable, both of which are aimed at encouraging non Tesla drivers to use them.
  45. H

    V4 Supercharger -UK

I hope Tesla’s statement that the V4 is “future proof” is true because 250KW isn’t cutting edge these days. Not that it’s relevant to me at the moment as my M3 can’t utilise higher charging speeds. But it might be relevant in the future when I get my next (non Tesla) car and still want to use...

    [UK specific] Software Update 2023.26

I won’t. My first Tesla will quite definitely be my last.
  47. H

OK, let's talk about sticking together!

I don’t find that Tesla drivers are any better or any worse than other drivers, not even drivers of hated German marques. I like to think I’m a considerate and courteous driver but I wouldn’t treat someone differently just because they drove a Tesla. On the other hand I’ve been appalled by the...

    [UK specific] Software Update 2023.26

Doesn’t it automatically overwrite? Every drive will inevitably become full over time with “too many recordings” but it’s a bit crap if it just gives up and stops recording new footage. Or if supposedly recorded footage can’t be played back. And if it worked properly (in my experience it’s hit...
