    Where’s the rumor train?

I'm betting on no hardware changes this year for X, they'll get new software and left to age with discontinuation in 2022 once Y and CyberTruck suck up all manufacturing capacity and demand craters.

$200 Registration Fee in Ontario - What does this get me?

In Ontario a vehicle registration is $32 if you're keeping your plate or $59 if you want a new plate. That would be good until your current registration expires in June. $120 a year for a sticker would get you to June 2021. So at $200 you better be getting a new plate and a sticker through 2021...

CNN Trashes Common Sense Driver's aid development?

The confusion comes from taking the Tesla marketing and fanboiing too seriously/literally. Elon says full self driving is just around the corner/is practically feature complete (whatever that means), we'll have driverless robo taxis on the street this year if those stone age regulators will just...

CNN Trashes Common Sense Driver's aid development?

Not in all cases. For example if someone brake checks you and you rear end them, they're deemed to be at fault. Likewise if someone pulls out/changes lanes suddenly in front of you and you rear end them, again they're deemed to be at fault. In the AP case it seems like the car slows down fairly...

Changing the "Wheel Configuration" in the MCU - for aftermarket wheels?

I'd think you'd want to run a non-staggered setup as the overall diameter is virtually identical (1 mm difference) and the revs per mile is the same. wheel-size.com has a great little calculator if you're wondering about tires/wheel sizes/fitment

CNN Trashes Common Sense Driver's aid development?

LOL! We need to get Diamond and Silk on here to give is the "true story"; I hear they have some free time.. Meanwhile I just avoid getting behind a Tesla coming up to an intersection; no telling if the driver is paying attention and will actually "click the stick"/press on the accelerator...

    First Accident in new Y!

That doesn't look bad. The tire is toast, but the rim looks good. A good tire shop can soon tell you if the wheel is bent but from a visual it looks fine. A few hundred for a tire and you're likely up and running. Could have been way worse, maybe hit the casino, your luck looks pretty good :)

Massive efficiency gain when following someone

Right now all AP can do is brake without a human input. So if its something that requires swerving (fixed object in the lane, chain reaction rear-ender, pothole, etc.) then it can't help. Nor can it help if the object in front has a shorter stopping distance (the 3's 60-0 distance is good...

Massive efficiency gain when following someone

The truck hits something, runs over something in the road, drives through a large pothole, swerves to avoid a stopped vehicle, all cases where you're in an accident @ 75 feet as you have less than 1 second to react and avoid. Even if you could process and decide on a course in that second...

Porsche Taycan Turbo vs Model 3 vs Roadster

I had the privileged of driving a M3 performance for two track sessions last year. In a 30 minute lapping sessions in 85F temps I had a battery thermal warning and reduced power midway through the session. How many times have you been to the track with your M3P?

Porsche Taycan Turbo vs Model 3 vs Roadster

I have track time in both 3s and Ss, the most recent being the fall of 2019 in a 3 performance. High speed running is different than track usage. At 200+ kph are you continually at full power followed by heavy regen? No, you're not (unless you're driving like a nutter), so its not the same use...

Would be nice to have Crawl Control Mode

You're spot on, usage is everything. If you're using it for "hill descent" in loose conditions then I've not heard of any issues. The ones that the local guys had were freeing stuck vehicles and was continuous crawl operation for prob 3-5 minutes. A couple got the "hot brakes" smell, one got bad...

The fit and finish on these cars is GARBAGE!

Would be really interesting to see the assembly quality of the cars rolling off Giga 3 in China vs Fremont. Wondering if they're getting better results with the newer factory tooling...

I've loved Tesla for 7 years. But after years of abuse, I'm out

There is a tipping point where chatbot, txt and email just become a huge waste of time and what could be a 30-40 second phone conversation turns into wasted minutes/hours reading txts/emails, trying to make the language more precise as the person doesn't seem to understand and you're not sure...

Andrej Karpathy - AI for Full-Self Driving (2020)

Not to mention restrictions on times when right turn on red is permitted (or turns are permitted at all)
  16. M

Would be nice to have Crawl Control Mode

The Rivian or the "later" 4 motor CyberTruck would be ideal for this as its easy to control each wheel without resorting to applying both power and then vectoring with braking. Challenge with the ICE implementations is they're reliant on brakes to vector, and depending on the duration of the...

Massive efficiency gain when following someone

Mythbusters (episode 80) did a good test on this years ago Mythbusters: drafting 10 feet behind a big rig will improve mileage 39 percent on a controlled strip so they could get repeatable results. The short results were (@ 55 mph) 11% improvement @ 100 feet behind 20% improvement @ 50 feet...

Tesla looking to recognize more FSD revenue for 2020 Q1

What features were in pre-March 2019 FSD list that Tesla removed at that point? I don't think anyone pre-March 2019 is getting anything different from what March 2019 onward will get (i.e. everyone is going forward with the new h/w platform and re-written FSD software). Are you thinking there is...

Two different usb drives not recognized..

For families I'd bet a fair share of the charging in the back is for tablets on road trips, hence my "just a caution FYI" comment. Just because its a USB C plug doesn't mean it can charge all USB C devices; people often assume that just because the plug fits it will work, not the case here.
  20. M

Tesla looking to recognize more FSD revenue for 2020 Q1

Elon is also promising robo taxis this year/next year (allowing for some COVID slippage) so that means he must be planning on having all the features done without requiring interventions. If Tesla is being allowed partial revenue recognition, then he can declare "feature complete" and argue that...

    The argument *against* a 2nd gen Model S & X

I agree, I was really hoping for a nice, more luxurious interior upgrade, CarPlay/Android Auto, faster charging, better thermal battery mgmt, better cold weather performance, etc. for the Model S/X to bring them on par with the upper-end of the traditional manufacturer range and Model Y...

Two different usb drives not recognized..

3000 mA is "fast phone" charging and wasn't what I was referring to, I was referring to high power USB C devices such as laptops and tablets. For example my HP tablet flags the Tesla plug has having "insufficient power to charge" when I connect it.
  23. M

    The argument *against* a 2nd gen Model S & X

That's exactly the example I was illustrating. The original Roadster ceased to be the "top-shelf" model when the S came along, its sales fell off, so it was killed. Now we're seeing the 3 erode sales of the S to the point of non-viability (< 15K in 2019), and the Y will shortly do that to the...

    Highway 5A crash

Condolences In my car club circle one of the reasons people tend to point out Tesla events is the misleading claims like "world's safest car" while talking about NHTSA crash data as the implied source of this "award". NHTSA has repeatedly told Tesla to stop because its untrue (NHTSA to Tesla...

Sentry Viewer should be hidden while in Valet Mode

The easiest solution is to remove the viewer in valet mode, and put a USB connector in the glove box. Then use that connector for the USB stick.

    Raven Performance Boost OTA Update!

Power isn't the problem at the 'Ring for the S, its cooling; after 4ish minutes at full tilt it goes into limp mode. Hoping that the Plaid upgrade will also have new pack cooling to let it run full tilt long enough to complete the lap...

Battery Replaced Under Warranty - 30+ miles below rated range

There was a similar post on another forum where the owner of a 70D had the pack fail, be replaced, and wound up with less range than he had. The response from Tesla was that since these were used battery packs there would be variations in range, and the range he had was within their "tolerances"...
  28. M

    The argument *against* a 2nd gen Model S & X

Agreed, S and X are done and will shortly go the way of the original Roadster. Their sales numbers are dropping like a rock now for the S (M3 taking their sales) and X will be completely consumed by the MY. When the 2020 sales numbers come out I doubt that S and X combined will break the low...

Tesla looking to recognize more FSD revenue for 2020 Q1

Elon's talk about FSD being "feature complete" is just setting the stage so Tesla can recognize the FSD revenue. Pretty smart, Tesla can recognize the revenue as its "complete" but doesn't have to deliver it because of regulatory approval.

Two different usb drives not recognized..

Depends on the device. Will say on the packaging whether they're downward compatible with 2.0. The 3.x standard makes downward compatibility optional. If it doesn't say its downward compatible with 2.0 its likely not.

Wireless charging doesn't work with multiple phone cases?

No go on a XS Max with the Apple case, works fine without the case. Swapped out for the TAPTES Qi charger and it works fine with the case on. Looks like the stock Model Y charger is just weaksauce

Is Tesla holding back on MY performance acceleration?

Been some interesting tests with impact of wheel weight and tires on acceleration with the Model 3/Y. Short answer is smaller and lighter wheel/tire package has a huge impact on acceleration and range. There is an 18" setup (Martian MW03) that are supposed to be super-light
  33. M

Will Cybertruck get better range with "street" wheels and tires?

I'm hoping that they'll also publish range while towing soon. On the Model X its really only good to tow around town as with a trailer of 4,000 lbs on the hitch the range is down under 100 miles. Hoping the CyberTruck won't suffer the same range reduction...

M3 Full self driving capability purchase

Be interesting to hear Tesla support's story of the day. This popped up on another forum and the new owner was informed by Tesla support that FSD was assigned to the individual owner and couldn't be transferred with the car. The added burn was once they called into support to inquire about FSD...

Two different usb drives not recognized..

Despite using a USB C connector the Model Y is still only using the USB 2.0 protocols, signalling and power. So if you have USB storage devices that are USB 3.x only, they won't work. Nor do they have enough power to "fast charge" or charge a laptop/high power device. Booo Tesla

Porsche Taycan Turbo vs Model 3 vs Roadster

Different cars for different folks. The M3P is a great entry vehicle with fit and finish that's "North American 25-35K car" quality in fitment and materials. On the track its fun for a few laps until it overheats and you have to come in. On the highway its fun up to about 70 after which the...

    Coronavirus

That level of testing is not impossible at all with properly designed and self administered test kits and online reporting of results. 11M kits is peanuts for high throughput labs with targeted tests and full automation. These aren't mixed samples like crime scenes on CSI that you've been...

Can the Tesla Cybertruck Go Off-Roading?

Skid plates under the battery pack would def be required; any kind of a scratch in the battery pack deeper than a few mm is resulting in cars getting totaled out by insurance as Tesla says the pack is "compromised". So you don't want that exposed at all. 3 motors isn't enough for a tank turn...

Tesla chose to do what it does best: half-ass it

Its not a "communications issue", its a "bait and switch". No different than you research and settle on the latest MacBook Pro model as they use the latest Intel processors and are faster rather than getting a used one for less money. you go in and buy one with the latest manufacturing date...

    Model Y Launch/CoronaVirus/Likely Recession

Sounds great to the folks that can't get/don't need social security; a good "juice" to their investment portfolio is worth way more than the few thousand a month they'd get from social security.
  43. M

    Model Y Launch/CoronaVirus/Likely Recession

Not at all. You can tell Trump is getting held back, otherwise he'd just get the money back that the economy/stock market is losing by increasing the the tariffs on China which is the start of all this virus trouble anyway.

    Coronavirus

Why is no one listening to Trump? He wanted to close the borders weeks ago! Pence is just blowing this, I hope Trump dumps him before its too late!
  45. M

    Model Y Launch/CoronaVirus/Likely Recession

Hoping for the payroll tax cuts as well as the Fed getting interest rates to negative as they are in Japan ASAP. Trump has built a great economy, so sad to see the politicians and Fed fighting against what he knows needs to be done.

How often to charge with short trips to work and back

We don't do a lot of long drives during the week so I tend to Charge to 80% Sunday night at home to get ready for the week Drive until I get down to 15%ish then charge back to 80%ish at work. Fri charge at work to 80% so I'm good to go for the weekend Charge throughout the weekend as needed

Tesla Is Officially Selling A Used Model 3 With Serious Paint Issues

Since Tesla has discontinued their certified pre-owned program the quality of the used stuff appears to be going downhill. This is where the "no dealers" business model hurts as you have no opportunity to inspect the car (or have it inspected) prior to purchase. Its a real pain to have to...

Elon: "Feature complete for full self driving this year"

Going to be interesting to see how the "training" model goes for city driving on vision alone; on the highway its straightforward, review video from a driver takeover and refine. In the city that's a lot tougher as decisions have to be quicker, and takeovers may be more (false positive) or less...

This will not end well for BMW

Sure! Cybertruck and the semi will be there, but are targeted at a very different market segment. No one is cross shopping what BMW/Audi/Mercedes makes with a Cybertruck; the cross-shop for a Cybertruck is a Ford/RAM/Chev/Toyota.
