    Scheduled Departure Charges Prematurely

As others have said, if you want the car to charge and stop right before your departure time, you have to set off peak hours that end AFTER your scheduled departure time. Otherwise the car starts charging when you plug it in. Can't remember which update changed things, but it drove me nuts...

How do I disable the noisemaker in my Tesla Model 3

I tried it and it didn't work. They underlay the default noise on whatever track you play. So if you play a silent MP3, the default sound comes through. They evidently thought of people trying this to defeat the external sound.

Has Tesla ever explained the emergency door handle design choice?

Depends on the design of the vehicle's body and the door. My '95 Mustang had frameless windows. But due to the design of the car's body and the window, when the door was opened the window did not need to be lowered.

Chevy Bolt - 200 mile range for $30k base price (after incentive)

The 90% is intended to be a temporary fix. Sure, I guess they've "stolen" range, but this isn't intended to be a permanent fix. I thought I made that clear. They say they'll have a permanent fix available after Jan 1 and we'll get the 10% back. Supposedly Chevy is providing loaner cars and...

Chevy Bolt - 200 mile range for $30k base price (after incentive)

90% is supposed to be a temporary fix until they figure out what caused the fires. They claim they'll restore to 100% once they figure things out. If the final answer is a 90% cap, then you'll GM Batterygate.

12 volt battery, replace now or wait for warning?

If you have a replacement battery, you better have it on a float charger. Otherwise when you need it you are going to have two dead batteries. Lead acid batteries don't like to sit without a charger on them. They will sulfate up and die if they sit too long, especially in a hot garage.

    TeslaCam does its job

The rule is if it falls off a vehicle and hits you, the vehicle owner/driver is responsible for the damage. If the object is on the road and the vehicle kicks the object up, it is deemed a road hazard and the owner/driver is not responsible. So as others have said, you'd have to have evidence...

Model 3 rear door no unpowered emergency release safety

I did the manual release install yesterday. It was quick and easy, I didn't even remove the wiring to the puddle light. You don't need to remove the interior door panel once you are familiar where the cable is. You can just leave it hanging from the top, unhook the release from the clip, take...

Electric mowers, tractors and other lawn and farm equipment

Another FYI, yesterday I found a store that had the 650 CFM blower + battery and charger in stock. The price wasn't marked down, but the price was marked down on the 580 CFM units. I took the 650 CFM blower to service and had them do a price check. It came back as on clearance, but no price...

Puzzled by loud fan or blower noise

Same here, sounds like the climate fan is running inside the car. And it seems like it isn't stopping. If I open and close the driver's door it stops and the car makes the usual sounds you're used to after driving and when it sits.

Electric mowers, tractors and other lawn and farm equipment

If you don't know, Home Depot is stopping carrying EGO and the brand is moving to Lowe's. HD has most but not all EGO products on sale right now. You can't find them on their web site, you have to go into the store. Yesterday I picked up a 21" self propelled mower with 7.5 Ah battery for $100...

    Nine dollars and seventy-five cents

It is funny how people deal with different issues. If I was in this situation it wouldn't even dawn on me to bother Tesla or complain about them. The issue is clearly on my end, meaning my wifi coverage is inadequate for the car to update. So I need to fix my problem. It could be as simple...

Speed limit signs my M3 did NOT see

It has been stated here a few times, but in the US: -Yellow background signs are warning/hazard advisory signs -White background signs are regulatory signs So not recognizing yellow speed signs is correct behavior as they are advisory and are not a speed limit.

    Install a 50amp or a 60amp breaker?

One reason I put in a neutral is I can hook up an RV if needed. Could also be a little bonus selling point for the home in the future. The cost of the neutral wire when doing it yourself is pretty negligible. Can't speak for what additional and electrician might charge, but wouldn't hurt to...

    Install a 50amp or a 60amp breaker?

This is what I did when I installed the wiring for my vehicles. I used 6 AWG THHN in conduit, this will allow 60A (48 continuous) in the future. Right now I'm only pulling 32A and using the mobile EVSE that came with the car, so I installed a 50A breaker and a 14-50 outlet. I figure if I'm...

    Charging Voltage vs Amp Question

As stated earlier, unless it is THHN in conduit, you shouldn't be running 50A (40A continuous) on 8 AWG wire. Voltages varies a lot depending on the season, time of day, and the load you are placing on your wiring. I'll see 124v during the winter all the time. During the summer when it is hot...

Is it only me or happens with any one else?

One caveat, parking on an end can get you in trouble if there are cars opposite as in the photo below (danger area marked in red). They can back out and hit you. I had it happen once, I thought I was keeping myself from being damaged and got ran into. And if there isn't an island on the end...

Honeymoon period (boost and acceleration in general)?

These two statements sum up my thinking at this point. I've never driven a Performance Model 3. I've only driven a LR AWD Model 3, one on a test drive, and mine. The first time I mashed the accelerator it bordered on making me nauseous. You do acclimate to it though. On test drives with...

Is there a way to check a car production date by Vin#

Use this site and keep checking: Check Tesla vin for factory manufactured date As more vehicles get shipped, you'll be able to narrow down the date. Eventually the VINs on both sides of my car got added and it was clear what day my car was manufactured. If your car is older, you should be...

    Supercharger - Emporia, KS

Looks like the charger is on Tesla's online map of Superchargers, but it isn't showing in the car's navigation yet. It looks like A Better Route Planner has it added now, so I can now plan trips more accurately.

My Tesla buying/servicing/after sale support experience

I picked up my car on March 17 right as the area was starting to shut things down. I'll add to the good KC comments. I did have to ask and push to get some updates and things done that I felt the Tesla mothership should have taken care of, but in each case the SA responded quickly and took...

    Supercharger - Emporia, KS

From my experience in the construction world, you can bet that the contractor wants to get paid ASAP. So my first instinct would be that it is something on Tesla's end holding things up. That being said, I saw plenty of times when the contractor could have gotten paid, but went on to other...

    Noise Change after update??

Do you mean firmware? If so, I don't get your point. Or are you making a play or words trying to be funny? (Fram is an air filter company here in the US.) Firmware (or whatever you want to call it) aside, we know Tesla is constantly tweaking things. Just because the public release notes...

    Noise Change after update??

They can change how the inverter works, it is software driven. The inverter makes noise as it changes DC to AC. They can change how the motors are driven by the AC from the inverter. Motors make noise, and make different noises depending on how they are driven. All this is done by software...

    Noise Change after update??

I thought I noticed more noise after the last update to 2020.8.3. I'd say it is has more prominent whine from the inverter, at least that's what I think the sound is. Now my M3 now sounds a little more like my Bolt. The Bolt's inverter is a bit noisy, especially on regen. Could also be that...

My journey with Tesla's referral program...spoiler, it's terrible.

I ordered without a referral code but had the SA enter it when I picked up the car. It took a week or so, but the miles showed up in my Loot Box. I guess the key factor is even though I ordered without the code, it was entered at the store while we were doing the paperwork and before I drove...

Size of brake rotors front vs rear

I'd guess it was a trade off between the larger calipers and larger pads. With a larger rotor, it just won't have the clearance with the wheel if you want larger calipers and pads. There's probably a sweet spot where a smaller rotor with larger calipers and pads out performs a larger rotor...
  38. T

Size of brake rotors front vs rear

Look at the size of the calipers and hence the pads on the front. Much larger contact area. I'm sure they did the math and testing to end up with more braking power on the front despite the rotors being a bit smaller.

Anyone LR AWDs Showing 322 Miles Fully Charged?

Crap, I actually had the data of miles remaining before and after the update. When grabbing it off my phone I forgot what I had and deleted the post update remaining miles. Needless to say, it matched what you'd expect using the new 241 Wh/mi EPA rating, I think 318 mi.
  40. T

Anyone LR AWDs Showing 322 Miles Fully Charged?

Pretty sure it is, Alan has done a lot of research and watching of this and has reported that 241 is what's being used for the 322 mi range. I can't check for sure right now as the car currently isn't at home.

    Navigation update 2020.12 is out!

My car updated last night from 2019.35.108 to 2020.8.2 but Navigation is still at 2019.20-10487. Guess I'll need 2020.12 to get the nav update?

My recent numbers. First are before the software update, second are after the update and a charging session. The range increased due to the new EPA efficiency numbers being used, but the actual range really didn't change, just the way of calculating it. Software 2019.35.108 Odometer: 238.10...

    Wind noise

Here's a thread on wind noise. Solved: wind noise There are door seal kits available and a lot of discussion about this. You'll have to do some searching and research, there isn't a single answer. My new LR AWD is pretty quiet in my opinion. It depends on what you are coming from and used to.

Anyone LR AWDs Showing 322 Miles Fully Charged?

Total vehicle mileage is 108.5 mi, so is trip meter. Attached is the current Wh/mi over that distance and current SMT battery data. I'll let you crunch the numbers. Let me know if you need anything else.

Way better trade-in price from Tesla than from CarMax

I haven't had good luck at CarMax. First time I tried them they offered $2800 on a '98 Buick LeSabre. I sold it on CL for $4200 to the first guy that looked at it. Second time was on Wednesday when I took in our 2019 Leaf that we were trading on a M3. Tesla offered $22300, Carmax offered $21500.

Mailing zip / postal code is not valid for the state provided.

Here's one potential issue. When I go to my Primary Contact, there is no address, city, or state even entered or selected, just the zip code. Maybe it is throwing an error because the secondary contact's info doesn't match the primary (zip I'm trying is the same though.) But I'm hesitant to...
