    Free Model 3 musflaps

Thanks, but I've got all of the plastic rivets I could possibly need!. I did damage one of my last ones reversing over a curb that was higher than I thought, but otherwise they've been very good. Anyway, first come, first served!

    Free Model 3 musflaps

Hi Everyone, I ordered a replacement set of painted mudflaps from a supplier recently and they made a shipping mistake, sending me a set painted in white in error. They've replaced them and didn't want them back, so they are free to anyone who wants them. They are complete with plastic rivets...

    Key Fob + Key Band

To me, the Tesla rubber band is not a good design - it and almost caused.me to loose.my fob a weeks back. I was pretty horrified when I pulled my keyring out of my pocket and saw it missing

Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) in Kensington & Chelsea while using Source London

Source are a massive PITA to get a session going on pay as you go and also very expensive. I'd get my own back for the latter by setting my charge current limit to 1A. Cheap parking then, compared to a meter!

... and the glitch of the day is ...

Thanks - I did wonder if it was mechanical or software. I don't know how it knows where the endpoints are - micro switch or current sensing like the windows (or maybe both). Hadn't happened prior to other last software update but that could be a coincidence.

... and the glitch of the day is ...

Passenger wing mirror didn't fully unfold. Needed to use the 'Fold Wing Mirror' to fold and then unfold them. Only happened once and I can't reproduce it. Anyone experienced this before?

Car undrivable after 1 week ownership [Tesla says pinched or broken communication wire]

If they are seeing canbus errors, then they are probably right about a broken wire in the loom. Canbus is a simple, copper, low speed network. When diagnosing, they can infer where the problem is in the loom (or which loom/subloom) by looking at which devices are on the blink and which canbus...

I understand it is the battery case expanding when heating under charge .. a bit alarming but normal.

This is why we can't have nice things!

I was quoted £400 for a full respray of the bonnet, or a bit more if it needs to be blended into the wings if the colour match isn't good enough with just the bonnet done. Not too bad for my choice of local repairer. I did report it to the police via the Met Police website. Because I mentioned...

This is why we can't have nice things!

Sadly not. My car is parked on my driveway close to the pavement and I've always felt that the flashing of headlights might invite trouble. Is it a legal requirement to signal that the car is recording!. I've never had any problems with my car's before, so let's hope it's a one-off

This is why we can't have nice things!

Thanks. These things happen, unfortunately. I've not been impressed with smart repairs on large, flat panels. I think a repaint is going to be needed.

This is why we can't have nice things!

This is why we can't have nice things. Some neanderthal decides my M3 would look better with a certain offensive WWII symbol on the bonnet. Too deep to polish out - difficult to photograph in flat light, but it's through to the primer. Any good body shop recommendations in SW London /...

    [UK] 2021.32.x

Weirdly, I just an update notification to install 2021.32.10, which is what is currently installed. Maybe the SC pushed it to reinstall or re initialise? I've never seen that happen before.

    [UK] 2021.32.x

Perhaps a coincidence, but after installing 2021.32.10, all driving aids stopped working, driving aids stopped working and a error saying the emergency call system needed service appeared. Several resets failed to resolve it, so it looks like a service call is needed. I wonder what happened?.

    [UK] 2021.24

It had defaulted speed warning to 'chime' - Thank you for prompting me to look. I drove my usual 140 mile commute and i've got to say, this version was much more predictable and relaxing than anything to date. No phantom braking passing HGVs or instances of deciding to set a speed limit from...

    [UK] 2021.24

2021.24.3 installed on my M3P with Fsdadt night. First drive on the A3 to Portsmouth revealed that there is now a chime every time you exceed a detected speed limit. Can anyone see an option to turn it off?. Auto lane change seems glacially slow now - much more so than previous versions...

Feeling every imperfection in the road

I've always noticed that worn tyres do not ride as well as new ones. I think that the tyre belts become less flexible with mileage and this results in a more choppy ride quality. It may also be the thickness of the tread - don't know, but I've noticed it on every performance car I've owned...

Type 2 charging cable - 'Tesla button' retrofit

I note that the Moderators have added safety disclaimers on my original post, which I should have done myself. Please don't try this sort of thing unless you know what you're doing!. My post was for modifying a detachable cable, rather than a tethered cable, but.... If you are modifying a...

Type 2 charging cable - 'Tesla button' retrofit

I wouldn't take on trying to crimp a cable connector with chunky cables, particularly in a high current application. Without a gas-tight crimp, corrosion will degrade the connection over time. Buying an appropriate crimping tool to re-terminate the cable would probably cost more than a pre-made...

Type 2 charging cable - 'Tesla button' retrofit

Is your Podpoint cable captive?. I can't remember who I bought my cable from, but it is a fairly standard Menekes type 2 connector. My cable is a three phase type, so it has less space for the circuit, battery and battery than a single phase cable, due to the four 2.5mm conductors. I'd check...

Type 2 charging cable - 'Tesla button' retrofit

Agreed - That's what I've been doing until now too - I found it quicker to unlock the door and manually press the 'unlock charger' button than to do it via the app. The button takes care of it without me needing to use my phone, so it's a (very) slight saving in faff and time :)

Type 2 charging cable - 'Tesla button' retrofit

I haven't seen anything of the sort, but maybe it exists. Of course, they sell made-up cables with the button, but as I already had a 5M 3 Phase lead and can solder, I did it to save approx 220 euros. The job is quite straight-forwards for those with basic soldering skills, or the skills/ability...

Type 2 charging cable - 'Tesla button' retrofit

Moderator comment - Please consult a qualified electrician before attempting work such as this. Hi Everyone, I've long been slightly irked by having to pull my phone out to unlock the charging cable, wait while the car wakes up etc. It's a bit of a faff in the rain and I'm lazy!. I've been...

Disc brake significant grooves - performance only?

That definitely doesn't look right. In the first picture is seems as though the pad is only wiping the inner part of the disk and the outer part is pitted with corrosion. Im struggling to think what would cause that - either the caliper is not in the same plane with the disk, paf backplates are...

    [UK] 2021.4.x

I think there is a currently a logic issue with sensor fusion and conflicts between sensors: radar vs. Cameras, ultrasonics vs. Camera etc. I think that there will always need to be vision-based path detection, supported by ultrasonics for distance measurement for adjacent objects, such as an...

    [UK] 2021.4.x

Yes, am using AP. Good point - I'll turn off traffic light awareness and see if it still happens. It happens when passing under the lane closure signs on the roof of the tunnel showing a green arrow or a cross. It is visualised as a round green traffic signal above the car, but is clearly an...

    [UK] 2021.4.x

Yes, it's disappointing to say the least. I use AP extensively but monitor it very closely so there is a limited safety risk. It does reduce fatigue on my commute, so I persist.. I can now anticipate where there are mapping / speed limit issues so i go to manual or override with the throttle...

    [UK] 2021.4.x

4.18 installed. I did 140 miles today, with a lot of autopilot. I noticed that engaging AP when not completely centered in the lane is smoother and speed control is quite a bit more prompt - resumes the set speed when a vehicle moves out of the way more quickly - higher acceleration and less...

    Model 3 Ground Clearance

Approach and departure angles aren't too bad on M3, due to the short front and rear overhangs. I did have some problems in a car park with high speed ramps - i found that my mudguards would scrape if i went over them perpendicular to the speed hump. You can improve the break angle by crossing...

only third party insurance on loan cars?

I found out about the third party only cover and 2.5k excess last time I had a loan car. I did try to get it onto temporary cover via Direct Line, but gave up as it was such a faff. I decided to self insure and be even more careful than usual for the duration of the loan.

M3 Paint quality comparison USA vs. China

My old W212 E63 had hard paint - it still chipped as readily as my previous cars. It was more resistant to minor swirls but they were harder to polish. It still looked great overall when i sold it at 7 years old. It still had some orange peel and colour inconsistencies between the bumpers and...

Do you have a pocket full of RFID tags or don’t bother?

Thanks for the correction re: Schuko plugs. I thought that what was in use in France and Spain also, referring to a plug with round pins (live, neutral in plug, earth pin in the socket), reverseable. Good point about heating effects caused by multiple contacts and resistive heating. My UK 13A...

Do you have a pocket full of RFID tags or don’t bother?

Yes, you're right. The lack of interoperability across the UK charging network is a bit of joke. I have four different charging cards, just in case, BP chargemaster and ChargeMyCar for UK, and maingau and plugsurfing for charging abroad. Mainly i supercharge if possible. The prices for BP fast...

    Chill Mode Extending Range?

Its a different throttle pedal map. The computer doesn't actually vary power to the motor in direct response to throttle position, so no milliseconds power spikes, just a general, smoothed, average position as an indication of how fast you would like to accelerate to to the computer. Drivability...

    MIC Paint

My paint coat was thick enough (120-140 microns) but I had issues with the clearcoat that are going to require a repaint. There is pitting in the clearcoat, obvious once my detailer had pointed it out at 60 days after delivery, so that's not a durability issue - just a production defect. I...

Does the M3 need a Snow Mode?

I was referring to my previous Subaru Impreza, but yes - a 4WD will either have a viscous open centre diff, or a LSD with an electrohydraulic clutch arrangement. On a FWD car, the brakes just have the hub/wheel to brake, but on 4WD the brakes also need to slow the driveshaft and propshaft, so...

Does the M3 need a Snow Mode?

When driving in snow, ultra high performance tyres such as the Michelins on the M3P will be next to useless, 2WD or 4WD. Traction will be better for a 4WD but braking will be as bad, or worse than 2WD. When I go skiing, I can barely believe the traction and grip that full winter/snow tyres can...

Vibration/juddering at motorway speed Model 3 2021 facelift

I had to replace a set of defective tyres that had a similar problem - they were Conti Sport contact 5s. This was after repeated attempts to balance, checking for bent wheels etc. The tyres were actually out of round - you could see the tread moving up and down as the wheel rotated, relative to...

How bad is M3 paint in reality?

My car is about to go in for a complete respray under warranty because of pitting in the clear coat. The paint finish (MSM) is ok but soft and very prone to swirl marks, and i am very careful with my wash technique. My previous Merc E63 had a nice, hard lacquer coat but still picked up chips and...

Model 3 premium audio in RHD/UK

    Loss of LTE connection

Had the same problem with my car. I believe they had to change the LTE board. Symptoms were internment loss of LTE and following any software update. It eventually gave up completely. It may have been a problem with the mobile network that could only be resolved by provisioning a new card / IMEI.

    Best Song for Premium Audio?

Unfair comparison between the 'standard' audio on the model 'S' P85 loaner and my M3P 'premium' audio, but I thought the model S was awful - compressed and harsh / shrill at high volumes, with little low bass. The model 3 sounds very good, certainly better than the H-K premium audio in my old...
