    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

Lurking, not leaving! :) I deleted my four-year-old Model 3 with 72,000 from my insurance and added the brand-spankin'-new Model S that is worth four times as much. My car insurance went down $5 a month. I asked my agent why: "The safety features of the vehicle, and the cost to replace and...

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

Very helpful and good point about a rejection. As to the 2023 VIN, that's not a big deal for me since I'm a long hold -- I would've kept my 2020 M3 for 4-8 more years except I could use the additional range, and the price drop on the MS made it worth pulling the trigger.

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

Well, that was yesterday. Today, I get notice of a 57PF53 deliverable now through the next 7 days. I've enjoyed the banter here on these few 2023 inventory vehicles; but what are your thoughts on my getting this order filled the next day? A cancelled order, most likely? Should I hold...

    No Tesla love in Bakersfield??

I went through that same section last August and it was a bear. The one south of town was in a gravel lot beside a yet-to-be finished convenience store of some sort. It did have some very nice porta-potties, though. Hopefully, it's all up and running now. I have no explanation for why there is...

Planning a 8000 km road trip next summer

I'm planning a similar trip to begin the end of this month. I've found the best planning tools are A Better Route Planner (ABRP) used in conjunction with Google Maps to fine tune routes; and TripAdvisor to get the most reliable reviews on restaurants, hotels, parks, museums, tours and other...

Coast to Coast Road Trip (LA --> ATL)

You mention the AZ leg. Was that Page, AZ to Farmington, NM? If so, can you tell me more about it? I'll be doing that leg in 5 weeks in reverse -- well, from Farmington to Page, not driving in reverse! :) ABRP is showing I can make it with 10% reserve. Did you have to throttle back at all...

    Car likely totaled

Definitely looks like a total to me. Rarely will an insurer of a vehicle that is not at fault pay anything. Generally, there should be some semblance of fault before that intervening car's insurer will pay. BUT, states vary, and some have some rather odd nuances in the vehicle liability laws...

    Car likely totaled

FWIW, in my neck of the woods, USAA has one of the best track records for adjusting claims. Or, put another way, it's not one of the worst.

    Car likely totaled

Very sorry to hear this. Be sure to check your policy for uninsured motorist property damage coverage in light of the likely uninsured nature of the at-fault party. Depending upon the law in your state, also look at going outside of the traditional claims adjusting resources, such as KBB, to...

As to amenities at Supercharger locations, wait until you stop at a Buc-ee's which are popping up around the South. The newest one in Florence, SC, has 16 Tesla Superchargers to go with the 120 gas pumps with food options galore and the cleanest restrooms on the planet. These new places are...

Recapping my 3500 mile road trip frustrations

I'm just spitballing here, but I wonder if your cruise control changing speeds wildly has to do with your Autopilot>Offset setting. Sounds like it might be set to "Percentage" with a healthy number. If so, then each time a new speed limit sign is read, the cruise control will adjust to that...

Model 3 struck by lightning 3 times in one day?

Sorry to hear this. Yes, we'd all like to see photos or learn more about this rarity. I, too, thought the tires served as insulators. And, just be thankful you own a Model 3 and not a GMC Sierra 1500.

    36 hours of M3 SR+ ownership...my initial thoughts

Good initial report. Thanks. Your cons, to me, are all stuff we just have to accept; but the "no ventilated seats" is a real comfort-downside for me. With that air vent right under the seats, it would seem to have been a very easy added feature. Hot, muggy southern days (and nights) could...

    My first accident

The famous 20th century philosopher Sophia Loren once said, “Mistakes are part of the dues one pays for a full life.” And Winston Churchill said, “All men make mistakes, but only wise men learn from their mistakes.” You'll likely never do that again. You'll be a safer driver and look back on...

The number is definitely provocative. In some cultures and faiths, "666" is an angelic, positive number; in others, it's demonic. But it would definitely draw attention!

Radar Detector need for Model 3

Valentine One. I've tried others and keep coming back to this one. Hard-wired in the upper left-hand corner of the windshield for easy access. Professional installer found a switched power source that has worked flawlessly. Cost to install was $150.

App or long-trip planner suggestions for a long trip in Model 3 LR(TN to NJ)

As you play around with the settings in ABRP, be aware of the feature to put in the time of day and date. Range, which affects routing, varies by season. One route planned in the winter for a summer trip sometimes has different charging stops due to range, which is why it's important to tweak...

Ordering Model 3 after Model Y

As to the replies commenting on "wasted" time at Superchargers, after 21 months of Model 3 ownership, I crave the "downtime" at Superchargers. I can stretch, respond to emails, or just lay back and do nothing for 15-20 minutes. Two years ago, if I could save one minute on a trip by taking a...

Talk to me about automatic car washes

Do the brush automatic car washes have any effect on camera alignment? I can't imagine how, but I read somewhere that was one of the reasons why Tesla recommended against them in the manual. I've hand-washed mine since I took delivery; but now after 19 month, I'm open to an automatic wash.

The “Tesla” wave. Is there such a thing?

In my town in the deep South (USA), there are just a handful of Teslas. So, yes, we actually wave at each other when we pass. And grin, because we appreciate that we're driving a car which is rarely seen in these parts. Then again, in our town, we wave at lots of other folks, too. We're a...

    Larger armrest?

I'm 6'3", and my aftermarket armrest works well. Other than Milly, though, I haven't found anything else that works well. I've thought of getting some upholstery foam and cutting it to size (something like this: https://amzn.to/3iMWcli), but that project is way down on the priority list.

    10 Day Report: Thoughts

I hear you on the design choice for the charging port being up front. My sense is that was tied to folks backing into Superchargers rather than pulling in and then needing to back out creating chaos, but that's a wild guess. As one who charges regularly at home, I would much prefer a front...

Farmington, NM to Page, AZ Superchargers - Sweat it or not?

Great suggestion; one I hadn't thought of, even though it's so logical. Folks, Thanks to all for very helpful and insightful comments and suggestions. I'll try to respond to questions in groupings. I ABRP'ed it at 70 mph, and even tweak the time of day settings, in addition to date. We'd be willing to even drop it back to 45-50 mph on game day, if necessary. Per...

I'm planning a long distance cross-country trip in my Model 3 LR in August; but when I was planning it this past February, A Better Route Planner was strongly suggesting I couldn't make it from the Farmington, New Mexico Supercharger to the one in Page, AZ. Fortunately, when I plug in my...

    Supercharger protocols?

The few times this has happened to me, I use the "CVS Rule" where we all just figure out where the common line begins and ends, and line up in chronological order. Hand gestures (the pleasant ones, like a wave and a thumbs up) help with communicating. I went to one with two separate...

Wondering what those who using ABRP actually use as a process.

I do something similar to what you've outlined. ABRP is exceptional for planning. I also run Waze on the...

Green Light Detection - Too Fast!

I respectfully disagree with the OP. I like how immediate it is. It keeps the guy behind me from hitting his horn. It reassures me of how nearly instantaneous the Tesla response system is and how it will be there in a split second when circumstances warrant.

How dumb can some people be.

This reminds me of the viral video of the Tesla owner allegedly sleeping while driving on a freeway in California from last year. Charleston Supercharger - Promised in 2017 - STILL NOT INSTALLED

Will do. I see they're building a mega 56-charger site between Fresno, CA and I-5. Heavens, would seem 7.25 million folks visiting Charleston should be worthy of at last a 12-charger site in North Charleston near I-526 and I-26.

Happened to me. I parked far away. Man and woman park next to mine. They come back after doing their business in the courthouse and door-ding my car. He looks at it and drives off. We're a state with no front license plate. Great Sentry photos of the guy and his wife all masked up. I thought...

    Unwarranted Emergency Braking

Same thing happened last week at 35 mph. But it happened only one time, and fortunately, no one was behind me. When I went back through the same section, I couldn't replicate it. I chalked it up to an AI hiccup. If it happens again, I'll become more concerned.

In addition to many of the above, I usually add comments about "one pedal driving" and how I touch the brake about once or twice a week when a squirrel runs out in front of it. "Braking before a curve and accelerating into it" takes on a whole new experience with this car which I'm quick to...
