    From Y to Audi e-tron: a Comparison

We're a retired couple who decided to consolidate from two cars to one EV. Since my wife didn't like the lack of physical controls and minimalism of my 2020 Model Y, we're trying a 2024 Audi Q4 e-tron - the all-wheel drive version - instead. We don't road trip much and do 99 percent of our...

No. If you must try FSD, rent it for a month.

    It's "brake."

2022 Y has a bunch of issues: cameras, cruise control, lane keeping.

Low winter sun can trigger a camera blinded message. Just ignore it. Dirt on the upper center windshield, where sensors are, can fool car into thinking spot is rain. See if cleaning it solves your problem.

    Charging problems (240 and 110)

A 30 amp breaker might be too small, (?) since my Tesla draws more than that with a 50 amp. Also agree with GFCI causing problems. Tesla advised its charger in the car has its own that can conflict with a home breaker, so I replaced mine with a regular breaker. That solved my own problem of...

Wipers turn on while on Autopilot

I had tree sap where cameras are in upper center windshield, which the car interpreted as rain. When I cleaned it off the problem went away. Auto wipers in general still work poorly though. They won’t slow down in light rain.

    Model Y battery coolant leak

I had a coolant leak soon after purchase caused by rodents chewing the line. So that's one possibility.

Survey: is the model Y the “perfect” all around EV?

After more than two years of Y ownership, I'd say it's a very good car but far from perfect. It could be quieter at speed. The suspension is stiff. The minimizing of controls is too extreme: just a few more buttons and knobs, please, for wipers, glove box. The screen fonts are too small. The...

    A mouse ate my Tesla

I lifted the plastic cover just behind the frunk (it gives access to the 12 volt battery, etc) and tucked them into the right and left corners of that compartment. Not ideal, but there is nothing hot or moving there.

    V11 UI and User Manual

Thanks for this. The newer manual doesn't seem to have guidelines for how much to charge daily, such as "don't go above 90 percent." Or did I miss this somewhere?

    Mileage

If you started in cold weather, the car is using energy to warm the battery as well as warm the car. Throw in a hill, or a slick surface, and you can use more than the expected miles on short errands. If the car is plugged in, you can use the app to warm the climate in advance, which also warms...

Just sold my Model Y - Parting thoughts

Another Y owner in agreement with your pros and cons. Improving the stiff suspension would be the one thing that might tempt me to trade my 2020 for a newer model. Another pro/con is the sales and service model. No dealership shenanigans but one pays the ever-shifting msrp with limited...

    Questions from a newb

On 5: electrician initially installed a GFI (ground fault interrupter) 50 amp circuit for my NEMA 14-50 plug but this interfered with the GFI built into the Tesla charger in the car. The result was a nuisance trip at times, halting charging. I replaced the circuit breaker with a conventional one...

Wiper Blade Replacement Tesla Model Y

I tried a third party blade set that hung up on the lip of my frunk so I bought the OEM Model 3 blades from Tesla, $50 for the pair. Those of course work on the Y without modification. The Tesla site is awkward in that I had to put in two separate orders for two single blades, selecting the...

    Plugged in all the time…..Really?

I have your same situation and only plug in when I’m low on charge, maybe once a week. I do leave it plugged in all night when I do so, if possible, so the batteries can rebalance or whatever It is they do. I haven’t noticed any battery degradation from this beyond the normal initial decline of...

    Constant chime bug solved

Just FYI, after downloading the latest Tesla software update, the music one numbered 2021.32.21, I started getting seemingly random chimes as I drove. Rebooting the car, powering down, turning the music software off, etc. didn't help. It turned out the update had somehow started (a bug!) the...

Gripe - time font too small

As an owner about to turn 70, I agree with the OP. I find most of the fonts on the screen except the one for speed too small to read easily when driving, especially since the screen is offset. I'd like a bigger font for the gear, temperature, compass heading, and warnings. And while Tesla is at...

Peppermint Oil spray solution under Frunk Area

After experiencing rodent damage to my Y I've sprayed the peppermint stuff in the area behind the trunk without a problem. I'm paranoid enough that I've also tucked dryer sheets in the compartment corners and hooked on a battery-powered rodent repeller that emits a light and sound rodents don't...

Fascinating new book on Tesla and Musk

I highly recommend Tim Higgins new book, "Power Play," on the history of Tesla, and Elon Musk's role in that history. Musk doesn't like the Wall Street Reporter's recounting of Tesla's first 18 years, for obvious reasons when you read it. The book also isn't adulatory enough for fanboys or...

    Aftermarket Trailer Hitch Cover

I got this Amazon hitch cover and while it's an improvement, the springs holding it in place are so stiff that it's still not easy. I can't shove the cover straight on, and have to angle it, suppress one of the clamps on the inside of the hitch, and then push the other side in. It is so firm I...

    FSD subscription announced by Tesla

For me, FSD makes little sense even if it ever works and I trusted it, both dubious. But say it does eventually work and you’ve got an awful commute and you want to read or play a game while doing it, is that worth it at $7 a day? (Or about $10 per work day.) I’ll be curious if younger people...

Best hitch rack for 2021 MYLR to hold my e-bikes and current weight limit?

I use a Thule platform rack to carry two electric bikes with no problem, but I remove the seven pound batteries for transport. No idea what the total weight is, but probably under 120 pounds. (55 pounds for an e-bike without its battery seems very heavy.) Rack is several years old, so I don’t...

    500 + Mile Range Debate

It will be interesting to see what is considered "necessary" two or three or four decades from now. Compared to 1995, a computer today would typically have 1,000 times the RAM, 500 to 1,000 times the hard drive storage, a screen dwarfing 1995's 14-inch cathode ray screen, a processor hundreds of...

How does Tesla sense and alert vehicles in their blind spots?

The screen display would be more useful if the cameras showing nearby vehicles looked backward as far as they do forward, giving earlier warning of cars coming up behind you. Anyone know if there's a reason they don't do that?

Am I getting caught up in the hype of PPF

After 11 months of ownership with outdoor parking in the PNW, I haven't felt it necessary on my blue Y. Haven't seen much damage, and the paint seems the same as any other car. I'm also curious if PPF deteriorates with time; other sealants you can simply renew every 6 months or a year whereas a...

This is why an electric car is better that people don't seem to talk about much.

Not burning fossil fuels - and driving by gas stations - is one of the most satisfying things about owning a Tesla. Where I live, much of the electricity come from hydro and wind. And I’ve seen tangible evidence of global warming all over the world, including significant glacial retreat in my...

charging, how often do you plug in at home?

I'm retired and only plug in about once a week, charging to 85 or 90 percent and then plugging in again when it gets down to 20 percent so. More if we're making longer trips, of course. The car seems to be doing fine; after ten months of this it shows a range of 311 if charged to 100 percent.

Can we please talk about rodents inside Model Y and Model 3s

I had rodents in the hoses behind the trunk. Figure it’s easier to repel them than catch them. I used Gain dryer sheets tucked in corners and peppermint spray to make the area smell bad to rodents, and a Loraffe battery operated ultrasonic rodent repellent fastened in there with zip ties. So...

Electric mowers, tractors and other lawn and farm equipment

I defer to the wisdom of EGO owners, since those products usually get good reviews. But I've got a Greenworks mower that's been dependable over the last three of four years, and a Black & Decker family of tools - weed whacker, blower, chain saw - that also work fine. If they go on sale, they're...

GFCI Breaker is Code for EV Charging

It took a loooong time to get a reply from Tesla on this question, but I finally got one from Wall Connector Support. GFCI Breaker is Code for EV Charging

We had a high-quality 60 amp GFCI installed by professionals (just for the conventional NEMA 14-50, not the Tesla charger) and have had some nuisance trips. Sometimes it happens and sometimes not, no consistency. The electrician said he didn't know why GFCI was required - our breaker is indoors...

I see so many model Y owners having issues. Would you buy again?

After seven months with a Y there are some things I don't like such as the relatively stiff suspension, no easy Apple music integration, the disappearance of the map in mountain areas outside cell range, tiny screen fonts, and some clumsy controls. Those are far outweighed by the electric...

    A mouse ate my Tesla

OP here: I simply sprayed the stuff behind the Frunk that was reachable: hoses, battery, etc. The smell dissipates quickly so I don't know if it really helps. A mouse ate my Tesla

An update on my earlier report that a rodent - I found a dead mouse in the driveway - had chewed a hole in my battery coolant line, causing a warning on the screen that the Model Y needed service. A mouse ate my Tesla

My 5-month-old Tesla Y started going haywire when it lost its battery coolant. Turns out that mice had nested behind the Frunk and chewed through the coolant hose. Understanding Range

I like my Tesla but I'm puzzled why the company never weighs in on threads like this, which illustrate owner confusion or uncertainty. Handgun Safe options for Model Y

Oh my. Uhm, what would Jesus do? Carrying a gun around makes you braver/dumber than you need to be. There are gun accidents. If you ever use it, even if you "win" you open yourself up to a nightmare of criminal and civil litigation. I'd leave the gun home. Or not buy it in the first place.
