    Neural Networks

Drdabbles your being really disingenuous when you say that artificial neural networks aren't like human brains. Artificial neural networks are sort of a very basic, simulated version of a brain, hence the name. And they learn in a similar way. Claiming that they are nothing like one another is...

Blog Musk Touts ‘Quantum Leap” in Full Self-Driving Performance

I agree with most of what you say. But I think you significantly underestimate what can be done with computer vision alone. Lidar doesn't provide a lot of information that can't be gained from cameras since they use the same wavelenths etc. It's just the data from the cameras is harder to...

Blog Musk Touts ‘Quantum Leap” in Full Self-Driving Performance

Ugh I can't believe people on this website still see lidar as essential for L5 autonomy. It simply isn't. We have been driving cars for decades without lidar on our heads. And animals have been navigating 3D spaces for millions of years without evolving lidar. It's simply not neccesssry.

"Hi waymo! I am a real product, not a financial black hole!"

    Autonomous Car Progress

As I said before I think within a couple of years we will see Tesla robotaxis on the road. And in saying that I am not saying Tesla are ahead. Cruise and Waymo are both further ahead. But probably neither will have the guts to put on their big boy panties and actually release a product before...

    Autonomous Car Progress

I don't think Tesla will have L5 autonomous driving by the end of the year. I don't think that's what Musk's actually saying anyway, I think he's alluding to having the route to (theory behind) L5 autonomous driving down by the end of the year. As for all the features you mentioned I would...

    Autonomous Car Progress

Bloomberg - Are you a robot? I am telling you Tesla are further ahead than you guys think behind closed doors. I also don't think Lidar is necessary for L5. Some of you are going to say Elon has been wrong before and it's true but nobody's perfect. How many rockets have you sent to the ISS...

    Autonomous Car Progress

I think some of the people here having been burned by Elon before are too pessimistic about the timeframe. I can see Tesla having feature complete FSD by the end of this year and robotaxis by the end of next year.

    Autonomous Car Progress

I think Tesla are going to make faster progress than people here are expecting. Tesla have been working on improving their training speed and it's paying off with features being released faster. And there aren't that many features between here and FSD(being able to do a whole journey...

53 countries adopt strict FSD regulations

This is a big backwards step in my opinion. It's going to make it harder for companies like Tesla to make the jump between l2-l4.So it's going to slow the race to autonomous driving. They are going to discourage companies from developing av's in these countries. Also its going to take a lot of...

    Autonomous Car Progress

With regard to the Volvo/Waymo deal I think both companies will be happy. From Waymo's point of view they might have wanted a bigger name than Volvo but at least they have a clear route to market now. As for the Amazon/zoox deal, Amazon have picked up a company which were making SDC progress...

    Autonomous Car Progress

    2. Use of simulation. This should not be done, IMHO. That's like saying a dude is qualified to fly a 747 after spending months on Microsoft Flight Simulator. I personally i think the opposite. If I was running a self driving company I would concentrate everything on making sure the sim was...

    Autonomous Car Progress

What do people here think about how Waymo are doing? Some people are suggesting they have hit a wall on self-driving. They seem to have scaled back their ambitions massively, you don't hear any talk of timelines for bringing stuff to market anymore. They seem to be planning to use backup...

    Autonomous Car Progress

That video was impressive and it's good evidence that Cruise are currently ahead of Tesla. What it really shows in my opinion is that the naysayer's are wrong, it's going to be years not decades before autonomous vehicles are consistently better at driving than people.

    Autonomous Car Progress

I am probably missing something in this conversation but what evidence do you have that cruise is l4? It seems like Tesla has a marketing disadvantage against companies like Cruise. Cruise can claim a feature in a one off demonstration, whereas when Tesla release a feature it has to be reliable...
