Paint flaws on brand new March 2024 Model Y, Deep Blue Metallic color

What you are seeing is perfectly "normal" in Tesla standards. The car bodies are painted by robots that are programmed to save as much paint as possible thus saving $$$ on each unit they build. You can thank Musk for the odd reasons he'll have to cut costs that make no sense to normal people...

    Replacing China Firmware with USA

Firmware is coded to the VIN. Tesla keeps track of all info for deploying OTA updates of the vehicle software. Hence, rooting the system to hack it's geolocation would be next to impossible without some serious coding apparatus.

Is this myp rear tire still fixable

Is it just me or do some of these screws and nails magically find the perfect spot to prod? I too have been a victim of these strategically placed screws that warranted replacing the tire. I now have a habit of checking behind my tires before I pull out of parking spaces. Be safe! Watch out...

Extended Warranty - Is it violated if I added MPP suspension?

Though the burden of proof is on the dealer/Tesla, one should also take into consideration, the drive motor. Since the drive shaft angle is altered from the factory geometry, any abnormalities in the drivetrain could be blamed on the modified suspension.

    Rattles

Oh... Where to begin. I have done my time with one of the earliest Ys back in 2020. Some minor creaks and rattles you must live with. Some Tesla will simply say "it's within spec" to which you yell out BS! Some you will find creative ways to fix yourself. Just the fact of life owning a...

Who uses an alternative to Rennstand jack stands for rotating tires and other work on their Tesla?

I have the 6000ELX which will be sufficient for all you mentioned except the X which I believe is over 6000 lbs.

Who uses an alternative to Rennstand jack stands for rotating tires and other work on their Tesla?

Invest in a QuickJack system. I purchased my setup 3 years ago at HomeDepot with their 18 month 0% financing. I've used it on both of my cars a dozen times each for various fluid maintenance, brake job and suspension work. Saved me expensive trips to the dealership. Paid for itself already...

Dent/Scratch Under Lift Point? Is this normal?

I don't think you need to be concerned. The lift points won't be under any batteries. Think of them as "ears" attached to a rectangular box solely for the purpose of providing lift/structural support. Now, if the dent/hole damage was anywhere near the red glue point, I would be slightly...

Has anyone noticed rear dual pane windows? (US)

It would be pretty easy to swap the glass in the rear if/when Tesla does make it a dual layer glass. Provided that it's the same shape and size of course. The thickness wouldn't matter as much as the weather stripping around the window frame will simply squeeze a bit tighter.

Scratch and Paint on Front Bumper

It does not include the molding. Shouldn't be too expensive. Best to check with your nearest Tesla SC parts department. FYI, though the painted bumper cover is an over-the-counter part, they have to do the remove/install at the service center.

Scratched black paint - fix it or forget it?

That seems to be well into the basecoat. That's not going to polish out. Will need to get a pro detailer to fill + blend + polish. It won't be perfect but it will be a lot better.
  12. N

Scratch and Paint on Front Bumper

Seems the damage to the bumper and the molding are significant. No amount of buffing or polishing will remove those deep gouges. It would require the bumper to be refinished and the molding replaced. Tesla does sell a full painted bumper from the factory which will run ~ $1200 installed.

Comfort Suspension Not Much of an Improvement

Here's my 2 cents after having driven my new MYP for 3 months. I traded a 07/20 build MYLR with 19" Geminis with a 08/23 build MYP 21" Turbines during the whole free FSD transfer offer. I can unequivocally say that the latest iteration of the comfort suspension is WAYYYY better than the...

    Opinions on repair cost

That's kinda excessive in my opinion. I know for a fact that factory pre-painted front bumper cover costs around $1000 and the SC will install it for another $200 or so. You can only order the bumper through the SC and they have to do the work tho. You may need another bumper clip on that side...

Model Y - vehicle 4 weeks old already 2 tire punctures - warranty coverage?

You really hate to assume the worst in people but the fact is, there are haters out there. Those aren't your average screws used in construction. Those are machine screws with washers and the placements are too precise (right around the shoulder) to be an accident. I've had all kinds of...

    2023 Model Y vibration around 70mph

16k miles isn't high but it isn't impossible to have those bushings to fail. All depends on the condition in which the vehicle is exposed to. i.e. repeated high/low temperatures. The bent wheels are easy to spot as you start spinning them at speed. The balancing machine would be able to...
  17. N

    2023 Model Y vibration around 70mph

Perhaps there's a slight bend in one (or more) of the wheels. Also, did the TSC check all the bushings/ball joints? The rubber bushing on the lower control arms and thrust arms are notorious for developing cracks.
  18. N

    Under body damage

Are you the only driver for this car? The force that would have taken to bend the main battery pack container had to have been something significant. That beam is a structural strengthening tab for the main battery. Also looks like there's a kink in the coolant tubing/pipe for the battery...

My brand new Y took a dump

If the car has lost that much coolant, you should see an error message on the screen regarding low coolant. Also, I would recommend calling roadside service (through the app) and get it towed-in. Should not risk overheating the battery.

Sold MPP Comfort Adjustable Coilovers and Arastradero Rear Upper Camber Arms for 2020-2023 MY

Hi. Thanks for your interest but I would like to keep'em together as a set in case the setup doesn't sell.

    Rear ended

Hope everyone is okay. Unfortunately, the damage won't be just cosmetic. There is an aluminum reinforcement bar behind the rear bumper. Although, pretty strong, there is a good chance that brace has been deformed. It's a good thing because that is what it's supposed to do. It will just cost...

Sold MPP Comfort Adjustable Coilovers and Arastradero Rear Upper Camber Arms for 2020-2023 MY

Still got'em. Have one other interested party who messaged me today. First one to make me a reasonable offer takes them. If you wanted to get these shipped to WY, there may be a hefty fee as these weigh about 80-90 lbs in total. Thanks!

cost to repair damage to front of Tesla

That twisted/torqued corner will never fit flush again. So, even though you don't seem to have a whole lot of damage, it will need to be replaced. I would say the fender alignment should get back into place with everything else once that pressure relieved from the area. A painted bumper from...

Yea.. this is totally normal. Happens every time I wash mine. I have been tempted to drill a couple of holes where the water collects to let it drain out. 😁

[Aftermarket] Power Frunk not closing from the Tesla App

I love the power frunk kit. I used it on a daily basis. It has been reliable for more than 2 years. Then suddenly, one day, it quit on me. But not before taking the 12V battery along for the ride. One night, it decided to go on rampant panic mode and drained the 12V battery. The following...

    Paint/Metal Issues

That is an oily thumbprint under the paint that manifested finally. I've seen them on freshly painted surfaces but not after several months. Have you had any bodywork done in the recent months? Or left the vehicle with SC for days?

Advice Needed: Pre-painted front Bumper Replacement vs. Repair (Y model)

Always hate to see these minor scuffing happen to new cars. I have replaced my front bumper with Tesla factory painted one. You can only order them through the parts desk and have them install it. I think the total was ~ $1100 which includes remove and replace labor. As long as you don't...

    Hit curb, bent rim, vibrates?

At 30-40 mph, it's a significant force/torque exerted to that corner of the vehicle (that weighs ~4500 lbs). You may also have bent the drive shaft and/or wheel bearing to the wheel that hit the curb.

FS: OEM Model Y Performance Shocks & Springs + Rear camber arms

Yes. MYP OEM suspension setup will yield a 0.5" drop from a regular MY, with a commensurate stiffness in ride.

How far will current selling prices fall after Jan. 1 ?

I am waiting for the performance version to become eligible for the tax break to get out of my 2020 MY. It's got FSD so hopefully I will be able to get a bit more in the used market if I sell privately + the equity. I got mine before any of the crazy price increases so I have quite of bit of...

2 Weeks In and Scheduled 1st Service Appt - TPMS Fault

I had one of my TPMS fail in about the same time period. No biggie and will be covered under warranty. Remember to adjust pressure when the car has been sitting a while and the tires are cold. +_ 3 psi is expected when the tires have been driven at highway speeds.

California HOV sticker?? Lol .. really????

Can't believe this is still an on-going topic of discussion. It's in black and white in the CA Vehicle Code. If you don't have it properly "AFFIXED" to the vehicle in the designated areas, you ARE going to get a ticket, upon the officer's discretion. DMV won't issue plates because the...

Touch Screen UI Survey - Grad School Project

Hey fellow owners and enthusiasts! I wanted to post a quick thread about an upcoming survey that my team and I are preparing for feedback on the current touch screen UI in our cars. This is for a graduate program studying Human Computer Interface. We'd like to get an idea of what we can...

Mirror not folding at home location

That is odd. If it doesn't find the address in the Nav database, it should at least use the Geo location (longitude/latitude) and allow you to pin it. Hopefully it will be updated sooner than later.

Mirror not folding at home location

Silly question, did you remember to update the Home Address in your car?

    False frontal collision warnings

I have FSD and have used it on many occasions but it's currently limited in its capabilities. The "full" FSD that we're all anxious to get includes auto steer on all roads. In short, the car "should" drive you from point A to point B on its own once we get the update.

Driving in HOV lane without sticker

My 2 cents. Let's all try to be a good citizen. Claiming ignorance to any law is NOT a sure-fire way to get out of a situation. Law is law. It is there to protect both you and everyone else. Any leniency given is completely up to the enforcement officer involved.
  45. N

I got rear ended. Is it totaled?

Seems c-pillar is in good shape which would mean that the rear bumper took the bulk of impact (as it is designed to do). This also means the impact didn't get near the battery pack. With that said, this would be easily a $20k damage. New trunk floor, rear subframe, inner/outer rear bumper and...

    False frontal collision warnings

This whole safety score (a HUGE loop hole) thing was created to buy Elon more time to deliver usable FSD before he would be forced to refund the money to the customers. I've just gone past my 2-year ownership mark still with no FSD in sight. I've never felt so conned in my life. I said it...

Driving in HOV lane without sticker

They could probably play dumb and talk themselves out of one but even then it's totally up to the cop. However, it's been my experience that HOV violators rarely get off with a warning.
