    500 + Mile Range Debate

I'm assuming (ass/u/me) that's from a change to the EPA standards, and not a material change in the highway range. But ... we'll have to see. Maybe the wider tires are making the aerodynamics that much worse. To this thread: 500 Tesla miles != 500 Porsche miles. 500 Porsche miles would be total...

    500 + Mile Range Debate

Yes, really. The S is also too long... and the 202x Roadster was also looking quite interesting to me, before it was clear it wouldn't exist any time soon. (and ... given the range of the Plaid-S losing the really-long range option that was promised... it likely won't have the long-range variant...

    500 + Mile Range Debate

For me, specifically, it's too long. Doesn't fit in the garage. Otherwise I would have already bought one - software warts and all.

Supercharger - Silverdale, WA (dig ticket and electrical permit, 12 V4)

At least for my uses, that's a good location... when I'm headed home from the peninsula I'm usually going through Tacoma, and that's on route in a way the Poulsbo one isn't. Of course, EA has pretty good coverage in this corridor, and the Hood Canal corridor (101) needs coverage badly, so...

    Your M3H 'Stalkless' Driving Experience....

I've had my model 3P for 3 years now. When I first got it, I thought the lack of a dash would drive me insane. After three years... YES, THE LACK OF A DASH IS INSANE! ahem. I generally believe you can't really know until you try it. But ... I find a quick trial is usually enough, at least for...

    Supercharger - Burlington, WA

60 seems low for paired... I'd expect 70-something. and 20 (and very unsteady) is implausible. (Yes, being paired was quite likely. I'm aware of the unusual numbering)

    Supercharger - Burlington, WA

Plugged into a stall near the entrance today, and only got 26kW. Moved to a different stall and only got 60-something kW. Gave up and drove to the Burlington Marketplace staion. I really wish I could tell my car to just never navigate here...at least until the expansion opens.

    Wiki Superchargers Visited

Do all of the V4s have the 1kV port? That's the first one I've seen in the real world, and now I'm wondering if those will charge Hyundai's/GMs/etc at full speed (and ... also, Cybertrucks)

Supercharger - Snoqualmie Pass, WA - Location Pin

Only if you charge to a super-high state of charge, and ... uh ... that takes a LONG TIME. Edit: I guess someone who leaves it charging while going skiing or hiking or something else silly/stupid could hit this.... but I can't imagine that that's common. Does anyone have stats on "percentage of...

Supercharger - Snoqualmie Pass, WA - Location Pin

Yeah. Which is sad because it would be a great location during the summer (decent amenities, good splitter). But I'd imagine keeping it clean and usable/operational during the winter would be challenging, with all the snow and ski-traffic that will park anywhere.

EVgo, EA, and Tesla all in one spot? Do they just have the world's largest amount of surplus power there? (Not just the same general area. The same region of the parking lot) Although 24 dispensers is a lot... the EVgo station is just two, IIRC, and the EA station is one of their standard...

    Rivian R3 Compact

Most auto manufacturers are running at around 20% gross margin (and damn close to break-even net), per the internet, so a $25k car has to cost ~$20k to build. An EV throws away the engine, but keeps a lot of the cooling, has electric motors that aren't free, and then has to add a battery...

    Rivian R3 Compact

I've got to assume that the R3 will be less than the R2 ... once it ships. Which is to say, I expect the R2 to start at ~$50k at that point, and the R3 to start at ~$45. It's expected to have the same battery and motors as the R2, similar interior treatments, and sheet metal doesn't cost that much.

Supercharger - Blaine, WA - Boblett St

https://www.chelanpud.org/my-pud-services/rates-and-policies Rate 1 residential, $0.027/kWh. That's damn near free. And the commercial demand charges aren't that bad either... makes me surprised the Entiat/Coles Corner superchargers don't have magic-docks.

    Battery preconditioning for CCS-1?

There's also the aftermarket solution. S3XY commander plugs into your CAN bus and injects commands, and can inject the "precondition the battery" command. Get a button and hide it somewhere and now you have manual preconditioning

Ford says owners can start using superchargers today (Feb 29)

My assumption is that the "Open to NACS" chargers are setup to use Plug&Charge in a way that allows the Ford(/other partners that signed agreements) cars to just plug in. I would then assume that the Plug&Charge functionality would work at all the magic-dock sites too, because distributing...

Ford says owners can start using superchargers today (Feb 29)

I saw the Ford press release and went into the app to look under "charge my non Tesla" Now the Tesla app asks me to enter car details, including "do you have an adapter". If I claim I have a Ford (and an adapter) there are a LOT of sites available, but not all of the ones I expected. Looking...

Mustang Mach e GT charging at California Tesla supercharger

    S3XY Knob (initial impressions)

Ok, seem to have figured out what happened, and it's not the S3XY buttons/knob at all, but it is related to the category of accessory. You know how there are two places you can loop in devices like this? I had 3 such devices looped in: * Teslogic (front passenger footwell) * s3xy commander...

    S3XY Knob (initial impressions)

Yesterday, when I was heading home after work my car broke down. Tesla's claim is that the S3XY controller caused it. First Ever NACS Adapter

uh ... Not all vehicles use static MAC addresses. A MAC is a requirement for talking on a few different network types, so if the network requires you to have a MAC, then everything will have a MAC. The fact that there's no protocol element for this is why AutoCharge works for old Hyundai's, for...

Driving in a hilly city like SF or Seattle?

Facing down, yes. On steep hills, you'll have to actually hit the brake pedal sometimes. (although once it comes to a stop, hold will keep it stopped in my experience, even on steep hills). But there to get going again, you just do the normal thing of easing off the brake and lightly touching...

    S3XY Knob (initial impressions)

Something about how they changed the protocol between the two firmware versions. They didn't give the details, just said not to. The official suggestion is to just unplug the knob, carry it away from the car, and plug into ye-old-USB-C charger somewhere else to do the update.

Driving in a hilly city like SF or Seattle?

To say explicitly what others aren't... One pedal driving will hold you on most hills. Effectively the car has great hill assist. You will basically never slide backwards unless you put the car into neutral or something

Navigation Map In Areas Without Cellular Service

Yes. If you start navigating in an area with cell coverage, and never make any wrong turns, the only impact is loss of traffic-information (and sometimes maps won't draw in.) This is generally fine. If you start navigation in an area w/o cell coverage, it's a bit worse. Small roads aren't...

Collision repair shop in Seattle area question

I had the left rear quarter-panel dented while in BC Canada, so had to use comprehensive and have State Farm, so in that boat. Metro-Auto rebuild was historically in network, but was really annoyed at State Farm at the time, so wouldn't take me if I was using them. They estimated ~8k. Tesla...

    S3XY Knob (initial impressions)

There's a new set of updates (app & firmware) which fix the ambient light controls and the Temperature units issues. It also lets you turn up/down the haptics (which I prefer basically off). No new control options yet though.

2023 model 3 regenerative braking setting

If you absolutely need to change the setting, there are 3rd party controls that can do so (S3XY buttons, for example). But not via the cars preferences anymore. If that's a deal breaker for you, maybe choose a different car

2020 M3P on current (v11 FSD Beta) firmware. Car Firmware updates certainly COULD mess with the functionality, but the buttons use the same functionality and have been out for a while, and I've not seen any sign that Tesla minds, so I don't expect it. Yep, they do. No, I didn't. I mentioned that I felt it ... "felt" a bit cheap. The four buttons seem to lever down, not scissor down, for example. I didn't mention, but initially the haptics for "you've turned the knob" felt a bit loose, but they feel fine now. But that specifically? No...

    We’ve seen S3XY buttons, but a S3XY knob?

I just re-setup my buttons with the new commander. (Unplugged the old one. Add the buttons to the new one). I agree that a "migrate buttons" function would have been nice
  49. kilpatds

    S3XY Knob (initial impressions)

No, the knob isn't a joystick. It just turns. You can select the gear selector function, and then turn to the right(CW) to put it in drive, or left (CCW) to go to reverse... And as per my latency comment, this actually works great. If I were to have a stalkless car, I'd be using this to avoid...
