    Question on powerwall mode

Feel like I’m going to be in the same boat. Debating if another powerwall is worth doing (have2) since I’m not sure the rest of my roof will be as productive and I do have some excess going to grid.

    More Powerwalls or Solar

Couple reasons I think although I was surprised with this hit (again had the same last year). I just got the powerwalls really working this month. It took them due to covid, inspections and many corrections to get it passed, about two months. Before that I only had solar and was on a no time...

    More Powerwalls or Solar

It’s a bit hard to tell now since I have switched to cost savings which charges the powerwalls completely first and uses the grid for the house during that time. Before I came to this forum and was convinced to run that way :) I was attempting to minimize all grid usage and so was getting my...

    More Powerwalls or Solar

Great point. Will be interesting to see the impact of using cost savings as time goes on.

    More Powerwalls or Solar

I can’t see how I’m not a net consumer. I’ve been one for the last two years owing $1,000 each end of period and can’t imagine the power walls are going to make that much of a difference.

    More Powerwalls or Solar

Seem like before getting more solar I should capture that which I am sending to the grid. I suspect though that this excess will reduce substantially over the winter and the powerwalls will be just sitting there.

    More Powerwalls or Solar

Thanks guys. I have switched the powerwalls to cost savings. I am reserving 6% for power failure since the ones to date have been for 30 seconds. I did get these partially to deal with a longer term outage due to firestorms (in CA) which took us out for 3 days (several times) last year but I...

    More Powerwalls or Solar

Does it make sense to get more than two Powerwalls due to net metering or are you just better off getting more solar? I can understand it depends on the usage and use case but is there a general rule? I’ve got 9.9 KWh capability w/2 walls and during the summer can fill the Powerwalls before...

Storm Watch Activated in SF East Bay

Is the only reason it doesn’t do this in non-storm watch mode (topping off my powerwall with low cost energy so that I can get past peak w/o grid) is because PG&E doesn’t allow it, or is there a way to set this.

Storm Watch Activated in SF East Bay

Well looks like it now stated pulling from the grid. Guess it hadn’t updated to storm watch on the prior view/screenshot as it didn’t have the storm watch identification on this screenshot/screen like it does now. Got the alert and saw it on the main screen but must not have propagated all the...

Storm Watch Activated in SF East Bay

Looks like the Bay Area just went on Storm Watch again. Will see what mine does at 100%. Looks like I can only pull from solar to charge and not the grid although I thought I saw that being done the other day. I have two powerwalls and am in the Bay Area.

    Question on powerwall mode

Great to know and yes I am on EV2-A. Do you prefer that option or time of day 4-9pm? Pge tells me EV2 is more expensive but I’m assuming it’s because I didn’t have a powerwall before. I would have thought Tesla needed to know the price differential between the tiers to know if the arbitrage was...

    Question on powerwall mode

Granted my usage has been really crazily lately with the heat causing A/C to be on a lot during the day and then the smoke and heat forcing me to keep it on all night. I used to be able to get the two walls charged by noon and then survive until 3am. Now it’s cloudy/smoky and A/C on even in the...

    Question on powerwall mode

Thanks this is helpful. I was using self-powered but was hoping that I could get the best of both worlds. I wanted the system to predict how much I needed to get past peak and charge the battery to make that happen. What I was seeing is that during peak it was sending solar power to the grid...

    Question on powerwall mode

Saw this in another post and it looks like I should just change my costing to be defined as shoulder to do what I want? Anyone else tried this? —copied from another post — Cost Savings-Charging Priority: 1. Any solar (Off-peak) 2. Any solar (Shoulder) Cost Savings-Discharging Priority: 1. Any...

    Question on powerwall mode

Why send solar to the grid if the Powerwall can absorb it? I want the solar to power the house and charge the power wall up until the point it thinks the powerwall can fully support the house with no solar past peak and shoulder.

    Question on powerwall mode

I’ve got two powerwalls and have tried the balanced and cost savings mode. I kinda hate that during expensive times it sends solar power to the grid as opposed to charging my power wall. I have to switch it to self powered to overcome that. I would rather it do almost a combo - cost savings but...
