Help with Powerwall just fitted (stuck at 100% and not discharging to power the house) UK

smaller panels above and round the dormers? Sure you'll not have a solarfarm like 20kWp output... but you should be able to get something... even North facing arrays generate.

    Renew your EV Road Tax

Smart meters no chance. They're a buggy pile of rubbish. They can't even cope with sending usage data reliably, nor know what the price is at a given time. I doubt they can do anything remotely complex like spotting loads. Smart Chargers however are more likely, and far easier. The problem...

DNO electrician installed wrong main fuse

I'd be thinking of longevity. My 100A fuse blew back in Jan, when cars, batteries etc were all busy charging. HA did note a high draw (~24kW). Now the reason I think it went was less to do with what I used then, but more that it had been close to the limit night in night out for a while. So...

The year is 2035. How far have we got?

Car wise I think we'll just see incremental change/improvement. Even if a new battery chemistry starts being used, I doubt it's going to be entirely revolutionary (despite the breathless claims made by new starts desperate for funding). I doubt we'll see anything revolutionary, at least in the...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

    Actually you're spot on... if I look at Hugo I get the following from the DCC: 22nd - Octopus 28.64, Hugo: 31.72 23rd - Octopus 28.91, Hugo: 34.86 24th - Octopus 28.97, Hugo: 49.10 25th - Octopus 28.17, Hugo: 28.04 Yeah, I think I'll keep quiet about that. I never have days when we're away, so...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

My meters are hopeless always missing half hours lots here and there... but at the end of each month I get a single page table, or each days use, cost and so totalcost. eg: 22nd Feb. 2024 58.650 p/thm 3.61 p/kWh 28.64 kWh £1.03 23rd Feb. 2024 58.100 p/thm 3.59 p/kWh 28.91 kWh £1.04 24th Feb...

    Where's solar charging gone?

Yep, IO here and 15p for export... so pays more to export solar than save the 7.5p to charge the car. It could all change of course, which was why I was investigating, but make hay while the sun shines (literally), and pay the investment off a little quicker.

    Where's solar charging gone?

It doesn't, but that's what the Tesla rep has said. I did feedback that I thought it was daft. But you're right, I wasn't going to use it, as have a Zappi if needed, and as you say... at the moment I'm better off exporting it. Thought it worth investigating in case things change in the...

    Where's solar charging gone?

I dropped Tesla an email, I don't get it showing because I have a site import limit apparently. I have no idea why they remove it if you have such a setting, can't see how it's related at all... but I'd rather not remove it as could easily blow the main fuse (2 x EV and 2xPowerwall), and...

Tesla reduces output of Y and 3 in Shanghai

My personal view is largely driven by cost. Yes, we've currently got 2 x Tesla, Powerwalls, Solar etc. But most of that is driven by cost savings. The Solar/Powerwalls, and car allow Intelligent Octopus Go, which allows most of the house to run at 7.5p, and export at 15p. If suddenly that...

Tesla reduces output of Y and 3 in Shanghai

Yup, Salary sacrifice for example is only allowed if you're above minimum wage for example (the sacrifice can't take you below minimum wage), if you annualise the minimum wage, for a 40 hour week, working 52 weeks (paid hols), that's £19,760 per year. Now add in, say £500 per month for a car...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Charge on solar had/has this odd requirement that the Powerwall has no import restriction. A common thing added in install to stop main fuses blowing apparently, but a foreign concept to the Americans who wrote it. All hear-say above but with it I understand changes are being made as a lot of...

Yeah, same here, ~£55 a year increase due to SC increase. If only they'd reduced the off peak even just a smidge.

Tesla Powerwall and Octopus IO integration

Using HA yes. it's not perfect, but basically you detect the Octopus slot, and tell the PW to stick it's reserve to 100%. It'll charge up, or if already there, not power the house or charger. the not perfect is that it takes a few minutes for the PW to react, during which you can be powering...

Have you ever braked on ice, and had the wheels lock up? That feeling of time slowing and the car getting away from you? For whatever reason I expect that's what they initially suffered. And as for pressing the wrong pedal, there was an in car youtube vid of a track/experience day, and as...

Powerwall / battery storage: can you share how you use it with UK energy tariffs?

2xPW2 5.3kWp Solar, 2xEVs and a zappi. All in IOG. Of late, charge PW2 fully overnight at 7.5p, powers the house during the day. All solar exported at 15p. IO usually sticks to 23:30-05:30 so very bonus slots. Those that do I just alter the PW schedule and it drains a little less. Avg unit...

If it is as bad as you say, and fixes aren't done or aren't done in a reasonably timeframe, I'd be using a solicitor to basically say it's not fit for purpose, and getting the installer to remove it and refund you. Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

You'll never really know then... and for what it's worth not sure it matters, there's conversion losses when charging a batter then discharging it. Losses on the line, the fact that changing voltage (as needed to import/export etc), changes the wattage, couple that with devices that measure at...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

If they measure export, then whatever is closest to your energy providers bill... in my case that's the PW figures which are the lowest of inverter (solis), zappi and the powerwall.
  40. phil4

    Powerwall 3

Don't seem like much of an upgrade from PW2, so as you can't mix, I reckon all but those with money to throw away would stick with their PW2, and new installs will be PW3.

[UK] What we already knew - EV misinformation in press - it’s not gone unnoticed

What Zilla is saying though is some people are so pro that if you cut them, little T's would drip out. Now I'm not saying your example there is one. And you're right, there's plenty of anti-EV stuff that annoys me on a daily basis. But there are plenty of examples where Tesla, since we're...

[UK] What we already knew - EV misinformation in press - it’s not gone unnoticed

I do get where Zilla is coming from. There seem to be some people who literally won't see anything bad said against Tesla. Luckily most people are more balanced, like some aspects, dislike others, and Tesla do get things wrong. I'm not naming names above because I genuinely can't remember who...

Home Assistant is, but that's not one of the settings you can currently control on a PW with HA, just as you can't set tariffs nor time slots. Indeed the only control you have via HA is to go off grid, and to change the mode from self-powered to time based.

Could be, but oddly every day I've got that email, it's worked, car has charged and no issues. Also when I do as per the email, there is no "reconnect device", instead the option is disconnect device, suggesting it's already connected.

Test drive of a petrol car

You say that, but have you seen how many cars are sold that are manual? Auto gearboxes, DSG etc, are all good for people with more money... but when starting out or where price is everything, manual and a clutch is the way to go.
