No load center/electrical panel upgrade needed?

We signed with a local company who will do the MSP upgrade for $2000, whereas Tesla wanted almost $4000. Regardless, for my situation, it looks like my roof is incompatible for Tesla panels, although they did offer to do a solar roof. We have clay "S" tiles. Here is their email: Based on a...

No load center/electrical panel upgrade needed?

No clue. It's an underground service entrance, for better or worse. Once I have some bodies on the property to do an actual inspection, I'll have more information. I also have no idea of the condition of the roof.

No load center/electrical panel upgrade needed?

@GHall here's a "smart service panel" from a traditional manufacturer, if that's what you're after. And there's always Sense, which seems a bit hacky tho. Smart Circuit Breaker Box | Load Center | Leviton Or IoTaWatt : Home - Brand

No load center/electrical panel upgrade needed?

Interesting, thank you. Tesla did the solar installation with your 100amp service panel, other than final connection?

Tesla Solar Panel Experience in Los Angeles

@M3SRdude I didn't realize you were talking about buying just a few panels to add to the system, I thought you meant you were going to buy ALL the panels elsewhere. I was just showing that the line item for the panels is a good price. My mistake. Here's the full details: Solar System...

    @GHall any update?

No load center/electrical panel upgrade needed?

Agreed. I was just wondering why Tesla did not add it to the project cost. Is that something they would add after a prelim on-site check, via a change order? It should be a "simple" in-place swap out. It's easily accessible on the side of the house with no gates in front of it. The only...

I wasn't clear. I just meant I'm surprised they didn't do a 4th row, but less across. I guess it depends which way they run the racking for less work/materials cost. It's the back of the house, no aesthetics involved but would be nice to know there is some room for future expandability on the...

No load center/electrical panel upgrade needed?

Seems like a line side tap would be hard to do here, seems pretty cramped.

No load center/electrical panel upgrade needed?

Yeah, the panel is maxed out and beyond, in my opinion. Two 30 amp ovens, a 60amp for A/C. I haven't tried turning everything on at once, but I would imagine it would trip the main breaker. Nearly every circuit in there is 20 amp, only one or two 15 amp. Thanks ghall and socal dave for the...

No load center/electrical panel upgrade needed?

It's rated for 100 amps max. I just googled line side tap. Seems like a clever way of getting around a panel upgrade. Why is a line side tap not a good thing? Janky?

No load center/electrical panel upgrade needed?

Correct, my panel is a combined service entrance, meter, load center.

No load center/electrical panel upgrade needed?

My 8.16kW system design came back a few hours after submittal yesterday (Saturday) morning. My house has a 100 amp electrical panel, which was clearly shown in the photos submitted. In the design and purchase agreement there is no mention of upgrading the panel. Are these designs automated...

Paid deposit Saturday morning, got this back a few hours later. Is it automated or does someone evaluate everything submitted? From what I've read on code, they can actually do a 4th row towards SE edge of house (fire access seems to apply to the peak and sides). Also, there are no vents...

Tesla Solar Panel Experience in Los Angeles

‍♂️ Porter Ranch is City of Los Angeles, as is most of San Fernando Valley.

Tesla Solar Panel Experience in Los Angeles

I just got my quote back yesterday, I'm in Porter Ranch. They are using the Q.Cells 340 watt panels and the Delta string inverter. They don't specify the model, but for the 8.16kW system, I believe it's the M8-TL-US. I do not have any shading on my roof, so they are not using, nor as I...
