    Homelink retrofit install failure

I’m in the same boat. They went out of their way to break my integrations with my own hardware. Therefore, I refuse to pay a dime for anything MyQ. I’ll stick with HomeLink whenever we end up with our next Tesla.

Problems inflating MY tires at Costco

I just pop the wheel covers off when I need to air up with my bike pump at home. Tesla could’ve given a bit more room around the valve stem.

    Supercharger - Ames, IA

Yes! That’s exciting. Just across the street from the Kum & Go I suggested to Tesla for the first round of supercharger voting. This is the perfect location for a supercharger in Ames. Great access to both highways. Highway 30 is the primary road into town for students and sports events. This...

Does everyone use Time of Use Electricity rates?

A third option: Xcel’s Optimize your Charge program, for a $50 annual bill credit. We use our existing Tesla wall connector with this program. Xcel uses evPulse to authenticate with our Tesla account and verify we primarily charge between 11pm and 7am. ETA: They don’t count energy use for...

    Poor wifi reception

It’s just not great. I have an access point (AP) mounted in my garage directly above our MYLR. Despite that, I had to crank the 5GHz band power up higher than any other AP in our home to get a solid, stable connection. It needed a medium-high transmit power when I usually spec medium-low. I...

    Motion Sickness - New Shocks?

Could it be that the hatch seal compression drifted over time? The infamous low frequency buffeting issue that can occur when the hatch stops aren't just right can cause feelings of uneasiness.

Is there a market for Gemini wheels?

There’s absolutely a market for used Gemini wheels. When I looked into it about a year ago, the 19s were worth more on the local used market than the 20s or 21s. They’re in high demand around here for winter tire/wheel sets especially for Performance buyers. I gave up on buying a used set and...

    NEMA 6-50 or 14-50

I DIY’d my wall connector install. I had intended to install a mobile connector at first until I priced it out. Upgrading to a GFCI breaker and adding a quality receptacle made a mobile connector install pricier than a wall connector. I’m not sure how you had a pro do an install for under $300...

    Car warranty scam letters

I've received a steady stream of these even for a 12 year old car. They just scrape public databases and blast out letters with seemingly little sanity checking or oversight.

You don’t already get piles of these? I’m surprised, honestly. I thought everyone got this kind of spam. Expect many more.

    Model Y Listed @ $39,990 on MVPA?

It's great in Minnesota, where the annual registration tax is based on the base MSRP without options. AKA $40k. Surprisingly they go along with it.

Popping noises from front passenger seat

Mine does the same, but on the driver's side. Any resolution?

3D Printed Rigid Hatch Stops (to reduce uneven road noise)

I just gave them a try. I measured the hatch stops at 11mm/7mm and printed 9mm/5mm respectively. So far there seems to be an improvement but I'll have to try more roads known to cause issues. Printed in PETG, 100% rectilinear infill and 99.5% scaling on X and Y. They're a touch loose so I might...

Model Y support for WPA3 network connection protocol

Last I checked it doesn’t support PMF Required. I even had trouble with Optional in the past, but at least that works now. WPA3-only networks are a no-go. I gave the Tesla its own SSID to deal with its unfortunate requirements. It also strongly prefers to connect @ 2.4GHz to APs with a weak...

Breaker Fuse Blew with Mobile Charger

Replace it. A 50A breaker is very likely oversized for the wire in the wall and is a fire hazard. The fact there was a 50A breaker in the first place screams DIY wiring by an unqualified individual. I’d blame that rather than the car.

Autopilot not available post 2022.40.4.1 Installed

Either the software reinstall or opening/closing all doors, trunk and frunk fixed it.

Autopilot not available post 2022.40.4.1 Installed

Leaving it off (via Shut down car button) and unplugged for 2+ hours did nothing. Following the service manual's instructions for disconnecting the low voltage battery and first responder loop for 5 minutes also didn't help. Reinstalling the update now, if that doesn't work it looks like I'll...

Mine did- '22 F563, picked up a few weeks ago.

    Windshield Washer fluid hose disconnected.

They must've fixed it. I just checked the MYLR I picked up a little over a week ago. The hoses are very securely attached to the Y splitter. I gave them all a firm tug and they didn't move at all. It'd take some coaxing to get them loose without breaking something.

February 2022 Ordered and Estimated Delivery Dates

Picked up my F563 VIN MYLR today. Panel gaps and paint are great. The passenger seat motor makes a grinding noise and there's a few minor interior blemishes to take care of. Overall happy with the car! It has USS and matrix headlights.

    Passenger seat Lumbar support

Would it work to experiment with padding in the seat where the air bladder would normally be? That might work if you really just need the support but don't need any further adjustments.

Unexpectedly buying a 4680 MY: Hit me w/ your best tips & budget accessories please!

I purchased some floor vent covers to be installed when mine finally arrives. I've read too many stories of things getting stuck in them and rattling around. It's a gaping hole in the floor under both front seats.

Standard Range AWD Model Y inventory priced $61,990 USD

Wow, that's crazy! Hopefully others snatch them up and make a bit of room in the queue for my order. :) My most common road trip is to an area of rural Iowa with little to no charging infrastructure. ABRP tells me I need the full MYLR range in the winter.

Standard Range AWD Model Y inventory priced $61,990 USD

This is a recent change and also applies to other new Model 3/Y that pop up in the store. After this change vehicles tend to stay available a bit longer after they're listed. In my brief time tracking newly listed MYLRs, they tend to sell out in 5-15 minutes now instead of < 30 seconds. I've...

Newbie questions on wall connector installation

The NEC definitely has some quirks. I'm sure there's a substantiation somewhere, but I'm not an electrician.

Newbie questions on wall connector installation

Electricians seem to disagree. But it your AHJ allows it and it’s inspected, you could get away with it.

Newbie questions on wall connector installation

I used copper wire throughout- aluminum #6 SEU doesn’t have the proper ratings and can’t be terminated in the wall connector. The in-wall section is from a junction box above the wall connector into the back of the unit to avoid vertical surface conduit. This is the product I used. As for...

Newbie questions on wall connector installation

You can use #6 SEU in place of Romex and use the 75*C column. I purchased my 6-6-6 SEU by the foot from Wirenco for an in-wall section and transitioned to #6 THHN + #10 ground in 3/4” EMT. The concentric ground on the SEU can be carefully spun in a drill to create a single twisted ground wire...

Model Y - Gigafactory Texas Production

I think they do that to make registration taxes more manageable. In Minnesota my annual tax is calculated from the base MSRP before options. That means I'll pay tax on a $40k vehicle instead of a $60k vehicle.

    Tesla Wall connector commissioning issue

There must be something wrong- mine said "{ "success": 0}". It's possible yours has some other issue or perhaps your hardware is unique in some way that it can't be updated yet (parts shortage changes). I'd reach out to Tesla at this point.

    Supercharger - Maple Grove, MN

No pictures, but my wife tells me they're tearing up the parking lot in the SE corner near the intersection of Grove Cir N and Maple Grove Pkwy. Sounds like there's some heavy equipment and fencing in place. This happens to be where One Call said they're installing conduit. 👀

Edit Design without affecting price now?

I have a 2/5/22 order for a MYLR and I've never seen that button. The link with my RN# substituted doesn't work either. Not sure why this seems to be so hit-or-miss. I was only looking out of curiosity anyway. I don't want to change anything on my order.

Heated Steering Wheel & Bio Defense Mode in China Model Y

I'm glad to see this update. HEPA is nice, but a heated steering wheel is one of my non-negotiable requirements for my next car. I'm still not in a position to buy quite yet but this is exciting nonetheless.
