    Abandoned Roadster in SF

Someone in the Facebook Roadster group posted a link to a Reddit discussion about a Roadster that's abandoned on the street in San Francisco. Not sure the VIN, but maybe someone here knows what's up with it and could even arrange a rescue.

    Roadster 3.0

In terms of CAC, it's almost entirely time (see the long 3.0 Longevity thread where I collected data). I don't have enough information to figure out what correlation there is with their just dying like they have been, but the rumor mill says that it's all the early ones that have been dying...

I wonder if the new 3.0 packs will die after a few years like the original 3.0 packs did.

3.0 Batteries from 2016 experiencing issues.

The real question is whether the new ones will fail like this after a few years, or if it was specific to packs made in 2016/2017. I'm not really excited to shell out another 30K every few years. I suppose we can wait a while and see if more and more 3.0 packs do this. Given the 6 month wait...

Tesla design chief Franz von Holzhausen on Roadster 2.0

They said 600 "real world" miles. The Plaid gets 400 ideal miles, which is in no way, shape or form 400 real world. My experience is quite a bit less than 300 when you drive at highway speed, with hills, and not running the battery to 0 (both for safety margin and because of the location of...

Tesla design chief Franz von Holzhausen on Roadster 2.0

Hey, I've been driving a Roaster 2.0 since 2009. I'm sorry to report that it does *not* hit those performance specs, though.

    Red error alert ID901&ID920

I ran the initial message through translate and got this: Hello. I would like someone to tell me. After replacing the PEM connector, an error alert appears, it can no longer run, and it no longer charges. There is no temperature indication. There is a red ID901 and ID920 error indication...

    3.0 Battery Longevity

You can drive it. It will take longer to balance that way, because it's only doing the balancing when it's plugged in at full charge, but unless you're in a hurry it's not a big deal.

    3.0 Battery Longevity

That is good. It means that you have an explanation for your terrible range and it's something that you can fix without having to take the car to service. You don't have a bad sheet or damage to the car, it's just unbalanced. Just be patient. It will take 3 weeks or a month to get back to...

    3.0 Battery Longevity

220 is pretty low for a 3.0. I'm over 260, and I've got lots of time and miles on mine. It's entirely possible that you're way out of balance. Look at the max and min SOC from the diagnostic screen. They should be with one or two percent of one another. If they're not then you need to...

    Title change

Not "Roadster 2.0," since that's the version of the original Roadster with the revised power electronics, push-button shift, and glove box. If you look at my profile picture you'll see one. :-)

    Which batteries for the roadster

No. The bigger battery increases the power that the battery can produce. That's almost certainly the reason for it, and the extra range (and effective battery life) is just a nice bonus.

Tonight's TMC Podcast #7 with Roadster Expert Carl Medlock

Tesla removes Base Price from Roadster page.

The price increase didn't hit me, I ordered after he'd already done it. But people who were a few months earlier had a bad experience. And back then there were so few of us that we all knew each other. Tesla went through a near-death experience when they couldn't ship the early Roadsters...

Tesla removes Base Price from Roadster page.

Not only would he, he has. He did that with the original Roadster, effectively increasing the price after taking money from the early customers. That doesn't mean it will happen again, but he certainly is capable.

They did it with the original Roadster. While they might not do it now, it's not unfathomable that they will.

Questions on my, new to me 2011 Tesla Roadster || Signature 250 Support (153) || Utah

It's nearly all time and no mileage. Look at the graphs I posted over in the 3.0 longevity thread and you'll see that (nearly) all the cars are in a bunch on the CAC-vs time graph, and they're spread way out on the CAC-vs-mileage one. The exceptions are cars like yours that haven't been...

Questions on my, new to me 2011 Tesla Roadster || Signature 250 Support (153) || Utah

A 198 CAC on a 3-4 year old 3.0 battery is much too high. If it's inline with other cars of that age (mileage matters little) it should be around 180. The normal way you see this is that if the car hasn't been driven much, and hasn't been driven to low state of charge in particular, then the...

    Roadster 3.0

I'm going to do an update on the 3.0 battery longevity study. I'm particularly interested in data from someone who's had a "new" 3.0 battery for at least a few months. I got some logs from ones right after they were installed, but that's not enough time to make a comparison with the original...

    3.0 Battery Longevity

Time to do another update since it's been 11 months since the last one. More importantly, we might have enough time and miles on some of the new 3.0 batteries to compare them to the older ones and see if they drop off as fast. Please send me your log files, especially if you have a new 3.0...

    Today's Roadster Orphan

I just checked my car. At about 5 and a quarter years and 62K miles on the 3.0 battery it has a CAC of 167. It first hit 167 about a year and a half ago at 58K miles (I'm driving it much less in the pandemic), and has bounced around since then. It may be that it's over-reporting because I...

    Roadster 2023

Well. Elon said they won't be doing any new models in 2022. Which means maybe Cybertruck in 2023 so no way we'll see Roadster any earlier than 2024. And given Tesla, that will be a stretch. Who thinks they can go a full 10 years from announcement to delivery? Looks to me like they've got a...

To deposit or not deposit, that is the question.

    Roadster vs Porsche GT3

Because they're going to sell, what, a few thousand Roadsters? And I'm sure the Roadster line won't have a lot of capacity in terms of cars/day. Even with 2x the cells/vehicle of a Cybertruck, that's only a tiny, tiny portion of the CT demand. They get much more value in press for shipping...

    Roadster 2023

So in Tesla time, I'll be lucky if I have a car three years from now. I didn't sign up for one of the first 1000, and "maybe 2023" means that in the very best case Elon will get his at Christmas, 2023. I knew it would be bad, but this is pretty ridiculous. Especially considering that they...

Market for Roadster with a 3.0 Battery

These batteries don't hold capacity, regardless of whether you drive them. It's really clear from the data I've collected that most of the capacity decline is related to age. The only way that I've seen to keep the CAC from declining is not to drive at all, which stops the CAC recalculation...

What would be the resale value of the new Roadster within 6 months of its release?

Exactly right. And I'm still glad I bought the Roadster, because I never thought of it as investment, it's just a great toy. Well, that and also because I was an early Tesla customer I got to buy TSLA at the IPO directly from the company (at $17/share) and *that* investment more than paid for...

What would be the resale value of the new Roadster within 6 months of its release?

Original Roadsters are going up in price, but I don't think mine's worth what I paid for it in 2009 just yet. But it's held its value much, much better than most 12 year old cars would have.

    3.0 Battery Longevity

    Plaid+ CANCELLED

That's the new Roadster. 600+ mile range, probably with a 200 kWh battery so 3 miles/kWh. At 250 kW charging that's 188 miles/15 minutes, so close enough. AND the insane 0-60, too. I'm guessing the interior will be nice, but who knows. Yours for only $200K some year soon-ish. :)

Blog Musk Says Roadster Acceleration Will Be Like a ‘Hardcore Roller Coaster’

I suspect that the rockets will more provide downforce than direct thrust. You get more acceleration that way (if you have enough torque), and it works in any direction not just the way the rocket is pushing. If that's true, then pretty much all the acceleration will come from the tires.
