Tesla Virtual Power Plant in CA

Our cca actually pays out for excess production. I think we were at an annual cost of-$200 our first year. We haven’t got our payment for last year yet. And like you it is basically all prepaid with the initial system cost. Hopefully we do better with the vpp this year.

3 minutes and people are still charging from the grid.

I have been heads down at work and just looked at the weather for Southern California. Now the vpp makes more sense to me.

It’s a real time display on the vpp screen of the app.

Tesla Virtual Power Plant in CA

The app shows how many people participated and the load provided at points. When I checked, it was between 26 and 30 MW in aggregate for only the participants in the PG&E service area. Each home doesn't provide much, but with almost 6k participants, that isn't a drop in the bucket. Particularly...

Tesla Virtual Power Plant in CA

I had minimal notice, but I am surprised by how much this impacted some people. All I did was turn off our cooling. Since it was less than an hour, we are still at 62% at nearly 11 PM. We will be able to stay self-powered until the sun rises again. I thought this was managed much better than...

Looking at my Enel app I think the vpp signup bumped me from the juice points program automatically. Not what I expected but I’m not worried since the payout for juice points is minimal.

I went ahead and tried to sigh up again. This time I was approved even though I have not cancelled juice points.

Has anyone confirmed that juice points from Enel disqualifies vpp participation? How do you unenroll from juice points? Thanks!

In my case it is the total for vpp events in 2021. I don’t get my net metering trueup until April. I think that should be a bit higher, but still disappointing considering we generated about 30% over our usage.

I didn’t try to track how much we fed back into the grid. It was most of our storage capacity for I think 4 events. My guess is we feed 71.83 kWh to the grid.

My check just arrived, $71.83 for a two powerwall system.

Just trying to share to help others. I cannot fix Tesla.

    Time based control not working

Have you had any luck fixing things? When I go into settings->Rate Plan all the sections have a little blue edit option on the right side (iOS). That is where I changed the prices.

    Yup, MCE deep green.

    Time based control not working

I did a little digging and identified some of the problem. The app added buy and sell prices for each time period. For some reason prices were inverted and my sell price was higher than my buy price. I manually changed them to have sell be lower than buy and the behavior is more like what I expect.

    Time based control not working

I had a similar problem this morning. Our power walls were at around 60% and the system was selling to the grid instead of charging the batteries during off-peak. I changed to self-powered and that got the power walls to charge. Now they are at 100% and we are in part-peak and it is not drawing...

I am participating in the vpp program out of curiosity more than anything else. The main reason we have power walls is to avoid peak charges and whole house backup is a nice side effect. -Ian

I might be off on the math, but $10 a day for a year isn’t going to pay off a power wall.

Tesla Virtual Power Plant in CA

To some questions of the questions: - 5:30 PM at about 900 W and dropping quickly. Our panels face slightly west and are not shaded before sunset behind the coastal range. - We have only seen anticipatory charging for Storm Watch. - This will be the 3rd VPP and no anticipatory charging from the...

Tesla Virtual Power Plant in CA

I'm in Marin and we are having another VPP event, 5 PM to 9 PM. Based on the draw rate on our system (~8 kW) it would be impossible to last through a full VPP without a huge system. It seems like they should limit draw to last the event duration based on your reserve. We have 8 kW and 2 PWs...
