    Software Updates Stopped?

We have a ten year old Model S, and have had it for just over three years. When we bought it, it was on the original MCU1 and we had hardly any updates. This time last year, we paid to upgrade to MCU2 and since then we have had regular updates, the most recent being earlier this week. So...

    EV servicing costs

We bought our 2014 MS 3 years ago, at the time it was on around 50 k miles. The previous owner didn't use the car much and spent a lot of time abroad (although it was kept in a warm dry garage attached to the house). At our first MOT around six months later, it had advice (not a fail) for...

    Tyres for best grip?

So just over another year has gone by. Just before the recent cold snap (in the UK at least) I fitted the winter wheels / tyres and guess what, we need another pair of summer tyres. Same criteria applies, I want the tyre that will give best grip that fits onto the standard Model S 19 inch rim...

Why can’t I just plug in and have it automatically charge?!

Yes, but from the car (or at least mine), it is only start charging at or be ready at. If you don't have a Tesla charger, you cannot specify start AND stop times from the car.

Why can’t I just plug in and have it automatically charge?!

Alternatively, forget the Tesla schedule which is "either start at this time or stop at this time", and have decent (non Tesla) charging point at home where you can specify when you want the charge to start and stop. Easy.

2020 MSLR - noisy door handle after replacement

Our new handle is as quiet as the rest i.e. almost silent. I would contact service and ask them to check it out. One of our previous replacement door handles did not sit flush and we went back to service and they did not charge us to swap it out for another one as the first was faulty.

Recent issues with my 2016 Model S (trunk latch, door handle present)

I don't know, to be honest. But the mobile tech who fitted our last door handle seemed to imply it was quite a recent update.

Recent issues with my 2016 Model S (trunk latch, door handle present)

The wire is just making contact. The reason it did not work was most likely because it wasn't. The long term answer is for a new handle of the improved design.
  12. B

Recent issues with my 2016 Model S (trunk latch, door handle present)

To the OP, do get that door handle replaced. The replacement is a better design. If you don't it will only ever be intermittent when it feels like it. To X care, do you cover cars in the UK and is that 10 years a hard limit (9.5 years now), on around 80,000 miles so well within your mileage limit.

What to do with my Model X if I need to travel to another country for 8 months?

If we leave our S without using it, the SoC drops by 2 or 3 % a day. When it drops to around 3% less than the charge limit, it starts charging until the charge limit again. It requires no manual intervention for this.

Tesla drops prices on X/S $20k. All colors free. Bye bye resale

I have just read this whole thread from start to end. I feel for the people who have "lost". However, new and second hand car prices are set by the people selling them based on how they think can do best. A manufacturer wants to maximise profit and that is combination of profit margin on each...

    Tesla Model 3 Battery Died!

I am sorry to hear about your failure. As said above, you need to get the car away from that service centre and get a more accurate fault diagnosis. I own an early Model S. It is "only" 78,000 miles, but over nine years old so well out of warranty. I appreciate that I am running a risk and it...

Is it possible to upgrade a 75d to a larger battery when It's time to replace it?

We have a 2014 Model S, which have had for 3 years with no major issues. It is now out of warranty and a battery or drive unit would be very expensive. However, to date (and I don't want to tempt fate) the ownership experience has been easy. Whilst it has had to go to a Tesla service centre a...

What to do with my Model X if I need to travel to another country for 8 months?

I often have reason not to use cars for months at a time. (As well as working away a lot of the year, I also own too many cars). As said above, inflate the tyres to the max and leave it plugged in with the charge target set to 50%. Also, don't leave the park brake on. Either leave it in...

Is MCU2 upgrade worth it if I have LTE with 64GB emmc

So we have a 2014S and have been considering MCU2 for some time. We don’t watch Netflix, play games or use the internet in the car and the MCU1 is fine 99% of the time, but does have the occasional funny moment, normally cured by a reboot. After much deliberation I recently scheduled the...

    Hypervolt 'waiting'

Most streets, every third house has the same phase so you are different to him, The DNO's are finding it increasingly hard to control voltage due to the number of home PV installations. The DNO has to supply the grid with 230 V plus 10% minus 5%. I think, without putting a calculator on it...

People who don't buy because of "charging time"

As an aside, my wife was always scared going to less than 1/4 tank in an ICE car. If I tell her she has enough range, but she will get home on around 10%, she just does it and isn't at all bothered.

People who don't buy because of "charging time"

So most people can charge at home or at work. Unless you regularly drive over 200 miles a day, then it isnt an issue. However, on days when I do need to exceed the range of the battery (only a few times a year), then I stop half way because I cannot / do not want to sit in a car for 5 hours...

@re/cell Maybe I should have put this in a pm or messaged your website, but have kept it public in case anyone else has meaningful comment. I have 2014 MS 85 with approx 75k miles on it. Just before I bought it, three years ago, it had a battery under warranty. Only I suspect that it was...

    My 2014 Model S died again… needs a 3rd HV battery! (No warranty left)😩

So, I have spent a bit of time on line looking at third party warranty. This is in the UK so may be different to if you are in the USA. Basically, I can get "full cover" for around £100 a month, but there are two very big buts. 1. The max limit for any one claim is £5,000, so that would not be...

    My 2014 Model S died again… needs a 3rd HV battery! (No warranty left)😩

To be fair i originally intended to sell before the warranty ran out but we liked it so much. So far, and really not wishing to tempt fate, I have not done too badly on the gamble, but i am fully away that could change in 2 days. I honestly hadn’t thought about a third party warranty but will...

Supercharging for an Early Model S - Can't Tesla do the right thing?

I have done it on our 2014 model, although Tesla may have a different policy in UK to USA. It was two years ago, but think in the region of 300USD / 240 UKP

My Model 3 was attacked in my drive way.

Being an old school ICE petrol head if I was the (not) insured I would use this as an opportunity. The only damage is to the roof. Make it a convertible. That will cost a lot less than 44k As an aside, I am struggling to see where that 44 k of damage is. Has the OP obtained several different...

    Parking ticket worth a challenge

You are absolutely correct. They rely on people being scared into paying, or in my case, having too much other stuff going on in my life to have appetite for another battle. I have only had two parking tickets in my life. One was my fault (mis read the sign in a hurry) and the other I decided...

Supercharging for an Early Model S - Can't Tesla do the right thing?

In the Uk it is. We had the CCS (inc the adaptor) on our 2014 MS fitted two years ago. (for a similar price to yours)

My Model 3 was attacked in my drive way.

In the UK, has to be where you say it is stored / parked. US may be different.

    My 2014 Model S died again… needs a 3rd HV battery! (No warranty left)😩

Not in the UK. I could get a 4 year old 3 (not a Y) for about the same value as my 9 year old S. Not wishing to start any arguments here, but for our personal needs (carrying dogs etc) the Model S is better. The 3 won't don't what we need and won't cut it. If we could get a brand new 3/Y for...

Supercharging for an Early Model S - Can't Tesla do the right thing?

I think the issue is, when the car was new, Tesla wanted 2,500 for free supercharging for life (no brainer really). As that box was not ticked, to enable supercharging, they now want 2,500. I can see both sides of this, but I cannot see how you can enable it without paying. That said, if you are...

    Parking ticket worth a challenge

Good look with the appeal. For the sake of £25 I would have paid it as that is a bottle of wine I may do on impulse, yet I have for more important things to do with my time than pick battles with a parking company. I really hope you win though.
  38. B

My Model 3 was attacked in my drive way.

Why wont the car insurance cover it? In the UK they would, as long as you had told them that the car was normally parked on the drive (not in a garage). This is an event completely out of your control and exactly why you have insurance.

What else can break on my 2014 Model S?

We have had a 2014 Model S for over 2.5 years. It had an HV battery just before we bought it, but I suspect refurbed rather than new. In our ownership it has an infertainment system fail, two door handles (the same one) and a couple of minor issues. All under warranty. (well, goodwill gesture...

    My 2014 Model S died again… needs a 3rd HV battery! (No warranty left)😩

I am sorry to hear your tail of woe. I have an interest as I also have a 2014 Model S. I purchased ours 3 years ago and it was on its second battery. I am aware that it probably wasn't new, but refurbished. My question to you (for my own piece of mind) is what did they say the mileage (km)...

"Power limited - OK to drive. Vehicle may not restart" message

So, the car may not start message is related to the 12V battery going flat or the car going asleep. If sentry mode is on, the car does not go to sleep and the 12 V battery is charged by the HV battery. If you are getting this warning, then keeping the sentry on is a workround to keep the car...

2021 M3P OEM Tow Bar retrofit

I understand that it would not have type approval and the insurers would have to be aware, but I wasn’t asking about any of that, just like the OP made it clear he didn’t want to actually tow with it. I am interested in whether it is a feasible DIY proposition at reasonable cost and whether all...

Question about Adding solar and/or batteries to existing system

I have just read the above with interest. I have a 10.5 kW PV system, although it is two arrays facing in different directions so never produces anything like that. Most I have seen is 8.5 kW being produced in two and a half years. I have one powerwall. On a sunny day, I selected "off grid"...

    Tanked Model 3 values?

Annoyingly, if it does not leave the factory with a tow bar, it can never have one. That is a deal breaker for me. Sorry. It really restricts the market for me. Ask Elon why he makes the only car in the world that cannot have a tow bar retrofitted (other than those that could not have them...

    Tanked Model 3 values?

As I said I feel for you. If I could afford a cash purchase tomorrow, I would be sending you a pm, but I cannot. If your car has a tow bar and you still own it early summer, send me a PM. Where in the UK are you?

    Tanked Model 3 values?

That is my position. We bought the Model S for my wife 2.5 years ago and it didnt depreciate at all for two years ago and suddenly its worth 60% of what it was. Not to worry, it may be 9 years old but wifey wants to keep it for ever. By the time we sell it, it will be worth a lot less that it...

    Tanked Model 3 values?

Ouch. I think it is supply and demand. The market is awash with 3 or 4 year old Model 3's which have all fallen off finance. As someone who is looking to buy a M 3 it is not so bad news, but they have dragged down old M S prices with them (which makes sense as a 9 year old M S should not be...
