What's going on (or not going on) with battery conditioning?

    > I wonder if we turn off the Blended Friction Braking will this initiate or extend a battery heating I'll give it a try next time I'm up the mountain (in 3 weeks). > Third party apps can provide a dashboard that includes battery temperature. You can turn on standard preconditioning, this may...

What's going on (or not going on) with battery conditioning?

    > I'll have more usable range Right. The energy app says I it'll take X% to get home (almost the whole battery) and shows I get +Y% from heading down the mountain. The reality is I burn up my brakes and get 0%. There is no way for the car to know there is a big elevation drop at the start of my...

What's going on (or not going on) with battery conditioning?

Picking a SC destination doesn't kick the battery heater in until you're driving (or at least in D). I don't really want to sit there with my family in the car waiting while it preheats. I'm 'preconditioned' and would like to hop in and drive home. Last thing I need is kids asking "can we leave...

What's going on (or not going on) with battery conditioning?

Sounds good. Is that for diagnostic purposes or do they have extra functionality to force more battery heating?

What's going on (or not going on) with battery conditioning?

If I can revive this thread with a (related) question of my own: At my local ski hill, there are no charging options (for me). I drive 1.5 hours to a SC, charge up near full, then drive another 1.5 hours to the hill, where there is a big elevation gain. I 'just' have enough battery capacity to...

Towing travel trailer with Model Y

I think it's 7' wide, and no I didn't need to use mirror extenders. I used to use them when towing with my older car but the Y is pretty wide.

Towing travel trailer with Model Y

I just got back from my first trip towing my tent trailer. Towed like a champ and the range hit wasn't as bad as I thought. Half city, half highway going over a small mountain (Malahat on Vancouver Island). Towed this 2000lb trailer with about 250lb of gear plus 2 adults/2 kids and coolers in...

Model Y Shuddering on Steep Downhill

Do you know which software version you're running? New deliveries start on an old firmware version and then receive an update about 2 weeks after delivery. I'm guessing you're not yet on 2021.4.X but will be soon.

Model Y Shuddering on Steep Downhill

2021.4.12 didn't do it for me today, so seems likely it's fixed.

Model Y Shuddering on Steep Downhill

Have you noticed how regen disengages at the very end of coming to a stop. So it slows the car down hard and then eases off at the very end? I bet what is happening is regen is slowing the car down to under that 'magic' speed, then the car speeds up because of the incline, then regen kicks back...

Me too. I'll try and capture as well this weekend.

Model Y Shuddering on Steep Downhill

Do you think you could take a video (maybe one inside and one outside) and post it here? Then we can email our service people and let them know we also have this issue.

Model Y Shuddering on Steep Downhill

I've experienced this as well and can replicate it. Foot off the go-pedal and steep decline (driveway leading to garage). I'll record the date/time it next happens and send it into the service tech. Actually, I'll try and take a video of it next time I'm on that driveway (over Easter).

How much am I paying to charge my car? Is this accurate?

Most/all of that will be at step 2, which is at a higher rate (0.14/kwh). 30% sounds too high to me (but I'm new to this as well)...maybe 10% for charging losses and pre-heat. 227kWh x 1.1 x 0.14 = $35. BC Hydro has partial rebates for energy monitors which could help you track this more...
