I’m pretty confident that the purpose of that tweet was to announce that Shanghai produced its 1 millionth car (people all around it in the photo). The tweet says Tesla has produced OVER 3 million cars, not exactly 3 million. The odds of Tesla making its 3 millionth car at the exact same time as...
I very rarely buy calls but did yesterday and today (June/23 and Oct/22). It seems like we are firmly out of the bear trend and should rise for awhile now (with some ups and downs of course along the way). I won’t hold the October ones for too long. I still have all my core shares and lots of...
I have followed Elon and his companies very closely for 10+ years. I would have never imagined that it would come to this. He is (was?) the richest man in the world and is publicly asking an accuser to name an identifying feature of his junk! Step back and let that sink in for a minute. I...
Sorry for the OT but since it's the weekend and I assume most people here are interested in this. Everyday Astronaut has a new video where he interviews Elon at SpaceX. It is very much worth watching.
I find most brokers and "experts" I have spoken to and read over the years know at most about 5% about Tesla/TSLA compared to the collective wisdom on TMC. They act like they know a lot, but when you dig beneath the surface you quickly realize how little they know and understand.
I’m personally going to follow and cheer on Delorean! Obviously they will have zero effect on Tesla like this article mentions, but hopefully they can make something compelling.
I've bought a significant number of TWTR shares over the past week anticipating this deal (or an other offer higher than Elon's), and just sold Jan2024 $55calls against them for what should be an extra free $2/share.
I’ve been a Tesla investor since 2006. I came up with the name Tesla for the company and I once helped Elon move houses during a blizzard. All 5 of my kids are named Elon.
I have been staying away from covered calls completely during this run-up but Mar25 $1,200s for over $1 were too good to pass up. If the SP goes up another 20% by Friday close that would be beyond shocking.
I went to the Surrey/Langley, BC (suburb of Vancouver) service centre yesterday and the sales guy there told me the current waiting time in BC for the base Model 3 is 8 months and the base Model Y is 10 months. BC has the highest rate of Tesla adoption in all of North America.
This is more of a general post but it does relate to TSLA.
I have never seen such insane volatility in mega cap stocks around earnings before. Usually a 5% move is quite significant for AMZN, AAPL, FB, GOOGL etc., but there have been many with 15-25% moves in a day. TSLA has routine up or down...
The drop in the SP to $830ish feels a lot like the drop in late summer 2019. The company was growing and model 3 was ramping and yet the market dropped the SP to 50% of the then ATH. I remember feeling very confused and upset about this at the time. I added a little at the time but obviously...
I’m being very aggressive compared to usual. I just rolled my Jan 7 1000/800 BPS’s to 1200/800. Gained $3400 credit for each one. Just doesn’t seem like this train will stall below $1200 this week.
I sold (then ITM) $1,100/900 BPS last week and they are doing very well obviously. I think the SP will end up higher after ER so today I sold some 1,200/900 BPS expiring Feb 4. This is a new strategy for me with the short put being ITM. $9,700 for each one and breakeven SP is $1,103. I like...
Happy New Year to everyone here! You are mostly all just usernames, avatars and words on the screen to me but I feel like I know a lot of your personalities more than many people I actually am in contact with in my life. This is a great family here and I am happy to have been around for all...
No. I find buying short-term calls is usually a loser. The stock doesn’t only have to move up, but way up (or smaller gap up Monday morning) for them to be profitable. I see it as a 1/5 chance of profit between: way down, down, flat, up and way up as the 5 possibilities for SP movement.
The...
I usually stay very OTM with my BPS but I think the P&D will be a large beat so I sold some 1,100/900 BPS expiring next week. Also added some 1,000/800s as well.
Warrant strike prices for SPACs are usually $11.50, which is what this one is. It basically functions as a call option with the expiry date being the date of the merger (which hasn’t been announced).
I received this email from the NHTSA 3 days ago (I’m in a Canada):
Your vehicle MAY be involved in a safety recall and MAY create a safety risk for you or your passengers. If left unrepaired, a potential safety defect could lead to injury or even death. Safety defects must be repaired by a...
"...while Tesla dissolved its PR department last year and couldn't be reached for comment.”
I wish it has said "...while a representative from Tesla said he was too busy dropping some friends off at the pool."
You could make the question ask for # of shares (for non-option people) or total delta for those that own LEAPS. That would give the equivalent number of shares combining shares and LEAPS.
It gets better. Elon was born on June 28, 1971 (6/28/1971).
6x2=12, 8+1=9 -> 12/9
9+7=16, reverse that is 61, 6-1=5, final number is 1 -> 5:1.
He even got himself born on the right day to set this up. What a guy!
Although of course past performance is no guarantee of future results, I have noticed over the years that usually when TSLA bottoms out in a dip, it usually has a double (sometimes triple) bottom day(s) apart. That’s what I’m looking for to buy back my trading LEAPS I sold at 1,150.
It’s less risky based on the amount of margin used. For example, 1 BPS 1100/900 and 2 BPS 1100/1000 use the same amount of margin with the same max loss. The first one has lower risk because it doesn’t get to max loss until 900 (vs 1000) and is easier to manage. First one has also lower profit.
I’ve gone from $100 to $200 spreads for most of my BPS. My decision was based on @adiggs experiences and then applying them to my own model of risk/reward.
If Elon actually sells all of his 10% of shares today and THIS is the only response by the SP, then that is crazy bullish. I don’t actually believe that is the case but now I am hoping.
Just sold some 1050/850 BPS for this week. Feeling pretty good that this drop isn’t going to extend another $100 since it really is a nothingburger and it’s already down $55.
