    FSD Beta 12.3 GA

    Oops. 😄

    FSD Beta 12.3 GA

Wow, first time it ever worked for me. I noticed that Tesla had turned loose a bunch more FSB updates, so I checked my phone to see if I was one of the recipients. Nope, nothing. Then I went out to my car and opened the software menu. It told me "Checking for updates". 60 seconds later it...

    Following Distance Change for FSD.

Interesting. That is exactly the reason that I would like FSD to shorten the follow distance. Say I set my speed to 77, and the guy in front of me and the guy behind me are also going 77. Then for some reason the guy in front slows to 69. My car will also slow to 69, but it will keep the...

    FSD Beta 12.3 GA

I haven't had the terrible experiences that some here are reporting. For the most part, it drives much more like a person than ever before. I noticed two places where the speed limit is 35 and the car thought it was 25 (and said so on the display), yet driving the same exact road at a...

Does anyone actually have FSD v12 yet?

Looks like a good sized group of regular beta users just got 12.3. I'm out of practice at figuring the percentage, but maybe about 12%? I'm counting only FSD users who are still on a 2023 base - the actual beta group - not those who have FSD as part of a 2024 update. I'm not one of them.

    FSD Beta v11.x

11.3.4 drove about 250 miles for me round trip over the weekend. I've driven this route many times on various FSDb versions, and this was definitely the best trip I've had. There are a few places along the route where I know I will have to disengage, and those aren't much improved...

    FSD Beta v11.x

I got the update. Clicked the alert on my phone and the Tesla app opened and immediately gave me a 401 Session Expired message, which won't go away. So I can't install it until I go out to the car. No real hardship, just mildly annoying. I have not yet figured out what causes those, nor how...

    FSD Beta v11.x

I find that FSDb's creeping behavior is genuinely frightening both for the occupants and for oncoming traffic. I wish it would just stop and not move at all when there is obvious oncoming traffic. It should only be creeping forward when there is no threat of an immediate collision. When I'm...
  9. Gilliland

    FSD Beta v11.x

Yes, it seems likely that there is a reason for the limit that was selected. It may or may not have been a good reason, but I'm sure one exists. But when you are driving on that road, you can only control your own speed, not anyone elses. So from that standpoint, even if it would be safer...
  10. Gilliland

    FSD Beta v11.x

It's cultural. Years of experience have taught us that if we drive the speed limit, everyone else on the road is going to pass us. And the same years of experience have taught us that if we drive more than (roughly) 10% over the speed limit, we risk getting ticketed. So that defines our...

    Elon: FSD Beta tweets

It's pretty easy to do the math. It turns out about 35%, and since the distribution is (apparently) random, that could be slightly higher or slightly lower than Tesla's actual target. So it could be a third or as much as 40%, but calling it "a third" seems about right to me.
  12. Gilliland

    FSD Beta v11.x

Now that you mention it, that seems certain. Since Teslafi is not in any way "official", there is not going to be any "push" software in the car. So it would have to be done by polling. Thanks for the correction.
  13. Gilliland

    FSD Beta v11.x

Yes, it is responding very slowly. But that may not be entirely our fault. There are apparently hundreds of Teslas trying to update it about the new software that they are receiving. :) Hmm. Maybe Teslafi is having some issues. The number just dropped by about 300. I think we will have to...
  14. Gilliland

    FSD Beta v11.x

Wow. I looked a few minutes ago and the number was the same as this morning. I was all set to tell you that you were mistaken, but when I got back there I found a much bigger number. About 700 more so far. And if that happened in just ten minutes, we might be seeing a major release tonight...
  15. Gilliland

    FSD Beta v11.x

Yes, on Teslafi it jumped from about 425 to about 1150 overnight. Unfortunately, I'm still not one of them.
  16. Gilliland

    FSD Beta v11.x

The 11.3.3 numbers are going up on Teslafi again. The total had been in the low 400s, now it is around 550. Not a huge jump, but it could be just the beginning of a larger release. Time will tell.
  17. Gilliland

    FSD Beta 10.69

As are about 90% of us. The update appears to have gone out to about 10% of the FSDb community so far, based on the sample on Teslafi. Maybe more of us will get it today, or maybe the rest of us will wait "two weeks". :)

    Elon: FSD Beta tweets

On Monday, 10.69.25.2 kept warning me of degraded performance because of inclement weather. But the roads were dry and there was no precipitation whatsoever. It still worked, though. Handled the routine parts of the drive.
  19. Gilliland

    FSD Beta v11.x

Yes. The speed limit and max speed changed at the sign, and the car did begin to slow down (just as it did in earlier versions). But the deceleration was very gradual, and the driver could have easily received a ticket before the car reached the speed limit.
  20. Gilliland

    FSD Beta v11.x

I've watched 6-8 videos in the past 24 hours, so I don't remember which one showed it, but I did see one such situation posted. The car went from a 55 zone to a 35 zone as it entered a town, and it failed to slow down. The driver disengaged and hit the brakes, then reported it. In short, it...

    FSD Beta v11.x

I often see school zone signs that say "Speed Limit 20 when children are present". That's a tough one to solve.

FSDb improved speedometer accuracy (still ~1 mph high)

I've also noticed this change, though it never occured to me that it might be associated with FSDb. When I first got my MYLR, the speed reported by the car was up to 3-4 MPH higher than the speed reported by my radar detector (which uses GPS). More recently, the difference has decreased to 1...

Auto high beams still comically bad

The auto high beams work very well for me. They were terrible three months ago, and now they are quite good. I won't say perfect or excellent, but good enough to leave them on at all times. It is interesting to see that not everyone agrees, but a quick look through this thread and others...

Auto High Beam making Autosteer unusable

The problem has been fixed for the most part. That's probably why there have been no posts on this thread in more than two months. I won't say that it's perfect, but it is so much improved that I no longer worry about it at all. It works very well now. And I was one of the people complaining...

    FSD Beta 10.69

When was the last time you tried the automatic high beams? I was one of the ones who bitched loudly about how bad they were, and how likely they were to cause road rage with other drivers. I don't know exactly when it changed, but somewhere within the last few releases it went from terrible...

    FSD Beta 10.69

Apparently only about 4% of the beta community got the new update (so far). Through some fluke of luck, I was one of them. I probably won't drive today at all, but tomorrow I will drive for several hours to celebrate Christmas with my family. About 50/50 between freeway and non-freeway. It...

    FSD Beta 10.69

I know something about DSP (in audio), but not nearly to the depth that you seem to have. But I still think higher resolution cameras could help a lot in two ways. The most obvious is that pixels can be combined to form a higher quality image that is at the same resolution as those provided by...

    FSD Beta 10.69

Something that I haven't seen anyone else mention is how long it takes to slow to the posted speed after a speed limit change. I often drive on 2-lane highways that pass through small towns. The speed limit can change from 55 to 45 to 35 and even 25 in short order. FSD beta (10.12.2 still for...

Auto High Beam making Autosteer unusable

In my experience the autowipers are only a problem when the area of the windshield in front of the main cameras is dirty. They will come on to try to clean it, and if they are not successsful they may continue to try for hours. But when that area of the windshield is clean, they seem to...

    FSD Beta 10.12

This is an area that has been a constant concern for me through several versions of the beta, and not because the car slows too aggresively. Quite the opposite. My experience has been on two lane highways that enter a small village or town. The speed limit drops from 55 to 45 to 35 over a...

    FSD Beta 10.11

I really don't know anything about how Tesla selected participants before the button. I assume that there was still some randomness to it. I did assume that they were violating an NDA by posting the videos. Tesla could have pulled them from the beta, but apparently they decided the publicity...
  35. Gilliland

    FSD Beta 10.11

It could also be just the opposite. They just happened to be guys who got into the beta early, and they started posting videos. Considering the small number of beta participants and the large amount of interest, it would be no surprise to see that they could build a Youtube channel using that...

    FSD Beta 10.11

Stable for now at 222 out of 2322. Roughly 10% of current beta participants have received it so far. I'm not one of them. Maybe we will see more today, or maybe they will wait a day (and hopefully not more) before proceeding.

Poll : Highway Phantom Braking Frequency

I'm talking about the car slowing down for no good reason. It may be reacting to something in the next lane that it need not react to, or it may be reacting to nothing at all. It slows down for no good reason. 5 MPH - no big deal. 20 MPH - still no big deal unless it happens in 1 second...

Is Tesla still giving out the FSD beta to qualified drivers?

That's a whole different story. Yes, if others are seeing the same thing, then something weird is happening.
  40. Gilliland

Poll : Highway Phantom Braking Frequency

I think we have too many different definitions of phantom braking for this survey to give useful results. From my perspective, phantom braking has nothing to do with TACC. TACC often causes annoying unwarranted slowing, very often in fact, but phantom braking is much more severe and relatively...

    FSD Beta

Elon says a lot of things that don't turn out to be true or accurate. I'm not defending him in any way, just observing that he does this. I think it sucks that we can't put more stock in his words, but this is his nature. And no matter who is doing the posting, I don't think a post on...

Is Tesla still giving out the FSD beta to qualified drivers?

In my experience, the trip will not count if it is less than a mile. Maybe the threshold is larger than 1 mile, I haven't tested it carefully. But I can tell you that very short trips won't be counted. It would make sense for the threshold to be 1 mile because they weight each trip by its...

Wiki MASTER THREAD: Actual FSD Beta downloads and experiences

I took a slightly different route home today. Much of the experience was good, but some of it was terrible. In the first 5 minutes, I had to disengage 3 times. And then FSD itself did the 4th disengagement. It told me that it detected poor weather and shut itself down. The day was sunny and...

Is Tesla still giving out the FSD beta to qualified drivers?

So far this year, the answer is no. The last new beta users were added on Christmas eve. Tesla appears to have now delivered 10.10.2 to all beta participants, but so far every car that received the update was already using one of the prior versions of the beta. If they add any new...

I drove about 120 miles yesterday using NOA and FSD. The second part of the trip was about 50 miles of FSD (10.10.2) on a two-lane highway passing through several small towns. It did surprisingly well. I had no phantom braking, no extreme slowdowns. I had constant speed variations where the...

Winter storm here last night: Rain turned to freezing rain, then to ice, then to snow. This is not the day that I want to try out the new software. :) I haven't even cleared my driveway yet. But tomorrow I have to drive about 150 miles, about 60/40 freeway and non-freeway, so I'll get my...
