Extra set of Roadster wheels to borrow for a 1.5 tire configuration test

I have an extra set of wheels. The tires are worn out Hoosiers. You pay the freight and you can use them.

    Autocross Tire Pressures?

Pantera Dude, never charge beyond standard charge if you want to retain regen braking. That was my first mistake. Next switch to the Carbotech AX6 pads. If you have sway bars, run the front full soft and the rear full stiff. Do all your braking before the turn. Use the cars acceleration as...

    tesla upgraded suspension

I set my car up with Advance Racing Suspension small body double adjustible shocks with remote resevoirs (3000 series). We use the car in Autocross. The shocks are better for autocross and very smooth. I used the origional springs. If anyone wants to do the same I can supply the build specs...

    SRRSCCA autocross results

Here is the results sheet for who was running in the SS class. http://sololive.scca.com/SS.html FYI, the Carbotech 6 pads were not competitive at this level. Yet its the best we can find for stock calipers and rotors. Blair is not dis satisfied. He knows he did his best. Its a long...

    SRRSCCA autocross results

Well Blair gave it all he had. The Tesla ran flawlessly but all he could do was 32nd out of 41 drivers. Tires were the limiting factor. 9 minutes of track time just about shredded those front 205 Hoosiers. The lead Porsche GT3 was running 255 front and 315 in the rear. The Vettes were...

    Brake Pads

The only issue I had my first time replacing the rear pads was I couldn't get the new pads to separate far enough to go over the rotor. Then after researching it, the caliper piston (under the inside pad) has a screwdriver slot that can be screwed in to widen the pucks.

    Brake Pads

My stock pads squealed and scared the heck out of me (due to lack of stopping power) when I was in a panic stop situation. My Carbotech 6 pads don't squeal. There is brake dust created on the Carbotech pads but I can't compair them to stock as I made the switch a long time ago. I will post...

    Brake Pads

We are running the Carbotech 6 compound (Lotus Elise pad) on the car we autocross. The cold bite is the best I have found and they get better when hot. The best so far for autocross. We are going to nationals in Lincoln Nebraska on Sep 5th. See you there.

Lesson Learned: Keep your Brake Rotors Conditioned!

My son races my Red Tesla in the SS class in SCCA autocross. There are rules in the SS class that state you can't change the brake rotor diameters. If we switch classes, the first thing I would do is switch to some larger Lotus roters and calipers (probably from Sector 111). This would allow...

Lesson Learned: Keep your Brake Rotors Conditioned!

The Carbotech 6 compound is a race compound that has good grip while still cold. In autocross you wait for your run while your tires and pads are loosing heat. The worst run is the first one in the morning before the ambient temperatures rise. Typical autocross runs are 35 to 40 seconds with...

Lesson Learned: Keep your Brake Rotors Conditioned!

In the Seattle retail outlet they have a Model S rolling chassis on display. The rotors are much larger diameter. Should not be a problem.

Lesson Learned: Keep your Brake Rotors Conditioned!

I'm not here to bad mouth the Tesla but you have no idea how bad the stock brakes really are. Try it yourself. Stand on the brake peddle. See how much peddle pressure it takes to activate the ABS. Now take out the wife's SUV and stand on those with the same pressure. Upgrade to Carbotech 6...

[Brake performance] Standard brakes on Roadster 2.5

I have been running the Carbotech 6 compound for over a year now. These are the best stopping pads I have found for my 2.0. I highly recommend them. It would be a shame to scrap an $100,000.00 plus car because you couldn't stop before the impact.

Interested in Group Buy of Roadster Wheels?

I use 205 width Hoosier A6's on the front of mine on stock rims. I would be interested in lighter wheels but don't know anyone who makes them in the 5 lug Tesla bolt pattern (Lotus is 4 bolt).

    Hawk HPS Brake Pads

I got my Hawk pads from Sector 111. I have since switched to Carbotech 6 compound for better cold bite when there is no time to warm your brakes.

    Autocross and range

My experience is that we loose 40 range miles per day per driver. 8 runs at .5 miles per run = 4 miles using up 40 range miles (you figure it ). Thats about 15 miles per gallon in cost compared to a ICE car. On my Corvette which I race, I reset the onboard fuel computer before an...

    Adjusting the adjustable suspension

My suggestions for the 2.0 or 2.5 with adjustible suspension is to start out with the front sway bar set at loose (outside holes). The rear sway bar set to firm (inside holes). Set the shocks up at 5 front and rear. Set the tire pressure at the recommended street pressures (example 35...

Cruisin' in Neutral - Actually a blast!

Rich I have switched my Sport 2.0 over to Carbotech pads (C6 compound) for the Elise. I had the chance recently to drive a new 2.5 after driving my 2.0 and there is an amazing difference between the Carbotech and stock. The C6 compound gives more bite while cold than their other compounds...

Cruisin' in Neutral - Actually a blast!

Keep in mind that coasting in neutral will tax an already weak braking system. Driving with a fully charged battery in range mode (reduced regen braking) will also place extra demand on the brakes. I switched to a carbotech 6 compound and the brakes are much better.

enough range to make it home for the first time?

The Tesla rep told me that there are 11 sheets of batteries. Standard mode runs 2 sheets at a time with performance mode using 3. When a sheet is depleted to a certain level it will switch to other sheets. So with different sheets being used to different charge levels, when charging is...

Drag Race -- Linde Open, Sweden

Approximately ½ mile track, 8 runs, uses up about 40 ideal miles. Uses up tires, brake pads, wheel bearings. Drive train components, heats up the battery with corresponding shorter life. The cone marks come off with goo remover. There is an increased risk of loosing control and hitting a...

Packwood National Autocross July 16 and 17 2011

Now that I listen to it closer, you're right. There are 2 times with the three beeps. My guess is the tire pressure monitoring because we are running 20 psi on the A6 Hoosiers. When you are driving, the distractions and the helmet keep you from hearing it. The only realistic way to tell...

That was the horn. Typically your hands are moving so fast it is hard not to hit the button. We normally take the fuses out for the windshield and horn. This was a regional event and didn't want to give anyone a reason to protest us. The rules state that everything is to work.

    Comparing Sport and Base

I just tested my 2.0 and it goes into white performance every time I can't seem to get it to stay in red performance. What is the procedure? I have used the touch screen on the charge settings then set to performance. I have also turned the ignition key forward. Any ideas?

    Comparing Sport and Base

Scott, you mentioned something in your post that there is a "white performance" and a "red performance". At the risk of sounding ignorant especially having raced my 2.0 sport, I was not aware of these two different performance modes. Is the white/red performance modes specific to the 2.5?

Packwood National Autocross July 16 and 17 2011

Well, Blair finished 3rd in a field of 11 in the SS class. The weather played a big part in the race times. During group 1 it rained the whole time. Group 2 started with rain then it stopped just before Blairs first run but the track remained wet and cold. Group 3 had no rain and it was...

Well, we took the adjustible suspension to the next level. I sent the shocks off to Bilstein for revalving. Blair just finished testing the new setup in the Winnemucca autocross (the other thread). So now the shocks are stiffer and slow the roll rate a little. We are still rinning the rear...
