    M3 Replacement tires

Thanks for the feedback! Maybe I'll give them a try before next winter rolls around if I don't get anything by then. Not sure if the OEMs will last until then though. They're already only a couple 32nds away from the wear bars.

    M3 Replacement tires

How are those AW01's? My local DT has a set on hand. I'm worried a more snow oriented tire will sacrifice some range and handling. But you'd think with that treadwear rating they wouldn't have a ton of rolling resistance compared to the stock Primacy's.

    Electricity Cost Spikes

Wow, that's painful. My electric rates have only bounced between $0.11-0.12/kWh here in Minnesota in the last few years. I'm on an co-op though in a small town who buys their power bi-yearly from Xcel. Our power source is part nuclear and nat gas, maybe part of the reason our rates haven't...

    Problems with “energy app”?

Just chiming in that I have the same issue on version 2023.6.8. Average consumption on the chart is roughly double of what the trip meter shows. I like to use that display to show what a better estimate of my range is when it's really cold out or going on a long trip. It's useless right now.

Windows no longer roll up when cold

Yes, I just started having this issue too. Any time its about 10F or colder the rear windows won't roll all the way up. First time it happened I threw my jacket in the rear seat before going into the store so I didn't have to wear it inside. It was dark out so I didn't notice and after the store...

That was the weird thing. All visualizations were there, including road lines and a vehicle in front of me.

Visualizations are on but cruise control unavailable

Update: the next day. CC/AP is back. I didn't do anything. It just sat in the lot at work and was working right away. Very strange.

Visualizations are on but cruise control unavailable

Just had this issue today. Submitted a ticket. I thought maybe because my washer fluid was out, it wouldn't enable because it couldn't clean the cameras if needed. I topped up the washer fluid and it is still happening. Just a message saying "cruise control not available". There are no other...

Model 3 2023 updates? Or what would you guys like to see?

Yes, I forgot about that. The rain and auto high beam sensing via cameras is terrible. Meanwhile, my friends 2021 F150 wipers and auto high beams work really well. The worst part is, driving at higher speeds, the top half of my windshield gets far less rain than the bottom half, making matters...

Model 3 2023 updates? Or what would you guys like to see?

That's a cool idea. Like a high performance saloon. Might not be as fast 0-60 as regular P3 without AWD, but 0-60 wouldn't be sole point of it. Just for hooning around in, and being a fun drivers car. I think there'd be a market for that. You know, Ford had a great opportunity to make the mach-e...

Model 3 2023 updates? Or what would you guys like to see?

I still think the new S looks good, it's kind of a timeless design. I like my 3, but yeah looks wise it's not great.

How can I tell what capability the Service Lateral has?

haha, yeah it was, they gutted it out at some point and never did anything with it. I ripped the rest of it off the wall since it wasn't doing anything. House was built in 1970, before microwaves were a big thing. I'm just using a tabletop microwave now.
  13. B

How can I tell what capability the Service Lateral has?

Interesting, I hadn't thought of that. I haven't dealt with any of that old wire on AFCI yet. The wire running to where my above range microwave is supposed to go uses old cloth wrapped round wire. When they re-wired the house they forgot about replacing that one I guess. I'm not using it though...

Model 3 2023 updates? Or what would you guys like to see?

Well, I thought it used to anyway. So it looks like the actual navigation software is their own, but map data is still brought in from sources like Google and MapBox, along with their own crowd sourced data from what little info I can find. In any case, however they're determining turn-by-turn...

Model 3 2023 updates? Or what would you guys like to see?

HARDWARE: Ventilated Seats Hard roof option, looks nice, but not fond of the heat coming through that glass. Framed door windows Door opening that you can use with one finger for when your hands are full. I like the Mach-E approach, although I don't like the idea of any actuators for door...

How can I tell what capability the Service Lateral has?

True, I want so say here any modification to a circuit in that location needs to be brought up to code. I had to when upgrading my panel. A good question for your AHJ for sure. But, I would install them anyway if you're going through all the trouble/cost to update the panel. Especially on a...

How can I tell what capability the Service Lateral has?

No problem, a lot of people, myself included, wondered what do I really need to do in my situation. If you get another EV, then maybe upgrade to 50 or 60A. But if you already have a 50A circuit to your HPWC, add another HPWC that can load share with the other. 20A per vehicle should still be...

How can I tell what capability the Service Lateral has?

It doesn't look like 2/0 to me, but hard to tell from a picture. Very rarely will anyone run the SE cable any higher than the panel they're putting in. You also have to know what they're running from the XFMR to your meter. Pretty sure you're stuck at 150A, which was a popular SE sizing back...

Phantom Braking issues improved in 2022.4.5.17 update?

My phantom braking/slowdowns were REALLY bad until recently. I travel on a lot of two-way roads with major semi truck traffic. I couldn't wait to dump the Tesla when something as good, or near as good was available. It made driving the Tesla really infuriating. My office is 60 miles away, and...

Main Panel Full - Free up Space or Subpanel

Interesting. I wonder if it uses a lower mA output check because it's not as high powered as a 50/60 amp wall charger, therefore the grounding impedance can be higher. Also interestingly, I found today that grizzl-e makes a version 2 of their charger. That manual states a GFCI breaker will not...
  21. B

Main Panel Full - Free up Space or Subpanel

Yeah, very likely. See if you can get it installed as a non-EV circuit. The few EVSE's I was looking at said not to install GFCI. The tesla UMC has built in GFI, but it must not do a self check like the wall mounted ones do, because it doesn't trip GFI protected circuits that I've plugged...
  22. B

Main Panel Full - Free up Space or Subpanel

Ah, true, EV circuits were required, I guess I wasn't thinking about that. I suppose you don't have to say it's an EV circuit though. Like OP said, it's an outlet for his "father to use for his RV when visiting". And since all modern EVSE's seem to have built in GFCI, I think it's unnecessary...
  23. B

Main Panel Full - Free up Space or Subpanel

I don't think so, my house was built at the end of 2018 when we were on the 2017 code, none of the 30 or 50 amp outlets have GFCI. I'm pretty sure the 2020 code expanded GFCI to every receptacle because that's when the board reviewed the reports of people dying from faulty heavy appliance...

Main Panel Full - Free up Space or Subpanel

Yeah, that makes sense if you don't have gas service, and I was wondering if it was a larger house. I really think you could combine something like the Family room and foyer, and 2 of the bedroom circuits to open up 2 slots. They can just be pigtailed together right in the panel. I did a quick...

Main Panel Full - Free up Space or Subpanel

Long post incoming... Hard to tell what is what there by the labelling and what you have at your house. Looks like everything is electric, do you not have any gas appliances? Do you even have gas service available? And wow, does your AC really need 50A?? You live in Florida, so maybe... lol...

I can't wait for the next update! Phantom braking is driving me nuts.

I'm having the same exact issues. It's bad and I haven't found a good solution other than accelerator hovering or just not using TACC. A two-way road at night is truly awful, over 50% of oncoming cars trigger a slowdown/brake or the loud "imma bout to end this mans whole (car)eer" alarm. I...

Model Y Auto Pilot Nearly Unusable

It's no different in my May '21 model 3. Unintended/phantom braking is rampant. It really degrades the entire driving experience. Almost to the point I want to take my Camry on long highway drives instead so I can just set the "dumb" cruise and drive in bliss. (minus the entire archaic...

Tesla.com - "Transitioning to Tesla Vision"

I haven't looked. It would be easy, I could just drive 10 miles out from my house and come back with at least a few events. I don't have any recording equipment though, other than my phone, but I don't have any mounts or anything. I'd have to film my feet somehow as well, otherwise I just know...

It's definitely happened with other vehicles directly behind me. I'll just hover closely or keep the accelerator slightly pressed when I anticipate it to happen until they pass me. I'm not going to speed excessively just because the doofus behind me does. The first time or 2 it happened it...

Using Existing Nema 14-50 Power Outlet to charge Model 3 Performance

I used the UMC at first, but charging at 32amps got the cord pretty warm after a fairly short time. It never got hot, but any appreciable warmth is just wasted electricity. The battery/onboard charger cooling circuit would also activate fairly often. Lowering the amperage to 22 was the point...

NEMA 14-50 is dead - all hail NEMA 6-50

I initially ran a 6-50 receptacle in my garage to use my UMC. I already have one on the back wall for my garage heater and air compressor/welder, and I thought adding another one closer to the charge port of the car would give me greater flexibility. So I ran 3/4" schedule 80 conduit with two...

Tesla.com - "Transitioning to Tesla Vision"

I figured it wouldn't but I had a roll of tape on my workbench sitting right there and just decided to try it on a whim to see what would happen without researching anything to satiate my own curiosity. The car did not like it. The glass heating elements turned on and the wipers went crazy...

Tesla.com - "Transitioning to Tesla Vision"

So I took a long 400 mile journey for work this week. It was an extremely frustrating drive. So many braking events. In the 7300 miles I now have on my May 2021 M3, I think I've found the patterns of unintended/phantom braking using TACC. (no autopilot, I rarely use it) Cresting hills on 2-way...

Can the American power grid sustain EV adoption?

I think one of the common misconceptions that's been thrown around is that you need a 50 or 60 amp circuit for each car. I myself even thought hey, I need to install a 60 amp circuit to the garage for when I get my EV. So that's what I did. (I downsized to 50A breaker for the Grizzl-e EVSE) As...

Tesla.com - "Transitioning to Tesla Vision"

That certainly is a good a theory and could explain what it's doing. The problem is I live in a river valley with lots of rolling hills and valleys so it happens frequently on every drive, and the inconsistency is baffling. Sometimes it does it on very shallow hills where you can see most, if...

Tesla.com - "Transitioning to Tesla Vision"

So I just got the 2021.4.21.3 update and decided to take a quick cruise to see if "minor bugs and fixes" helped with TACC at all. Sad to say no. In 20 miles I had 5 unintended/phantom brake occurrences. One was a full regen 60-25mph slowdown while climbing a hill, no other car in sight. The...

Tesla Branded Front Glass Roof Sun Shade On 2021 Doesn’t Fit?

I got the one off the Tesla store, not Amazon. They need to add a note to their page that it doesn't fit 2021 models... Interesting, I'll have to check that out if this official Tesla one bothers me too much. Sucks that you have to buy an alphabet soup company product, but what can you do!

Tesla.com - "Transitioning to Tesla Vision"

Well, I do now, lol. Interesting, why even have that feature then? What does it actually do?
  39. B

Tesla.com - "Transitioning to Tesla Vision"

Yeah, I'm getting real tired of all the unintentional braking. I've used the bug report feature at least 100 times since I last posted here. It brakes/slows down 90% of the time I'm cresting a hill and someone is travelling in the opposite lane towards me. I now just pre-emptively hold the...

Tesla Branded Front Glass Roof Sun Shade On 2021 Doesn’t Fit?

I ordered the sunshade from the store, but it does not fit my June 2021 M3. The trapezoidal shape does not match up in the rear. If I want the corners to fit up against the glass, the center hangs down and visa-versa.

Tesla.com - "Transitioning to Tesla Vision"

I did install 4.18.10 on Tuesday or Wednesday. I then had to travel about 350 miles for work on Thursday, I had several actual phantom braking events during that trip. No one in front of me, nothing on the side of the road or anything I could see that I would think that could confuse the system...

Tesla.com - "Transitioning to Tesla Vision"

Then the user doesn't need to enable it. Just have dumb cruise off by default. And the same could be said for any other form of automation. Going from autosteer to TACC for example. I get a message saying "auto cruise will not stop when the acceleration pedal is depressed" if I'm holding it...

Tesla.com - "Transitioning to Tesla Vision"

LOL, yeah ok. I wish I was making it up. But sure, scream fake news if anyone criticizes Tesla. Also, I have a May 2021 model with no radar, so I'm sure yours didn't phantom brake very often. I have no reason to lie, I just want it to work better and sharing my experience. This isn't exactly a...

Tesla.com - "Transitioning to Tesla Vision"

I really really wish there was an option for a "dumb cruise" mode where it maintains speed no matter what like older dumb cars normally have. It could still keep lane assist on though. The amount of phantom braking I've had on flat open roads is extremely disappointing and makes simple country...

5-20 dropping 13 volts under 16 amp load. Not good.

I know this is a bit of an old thread, but I saw on the "similar threads" suggestion at the bottom and thought it was interesting. If those outlets won't ever be needed for anything else, or isn't required by code to be there, that circuit could be swapped out to a single 6-20 or 6-15...

Will my 1950's 240v 6-30 outlet be safe to use?

Based on the level of corrosion in the box, I'd at least pull off the wire nuts to see if the wire has any significant tarnish. Strip it back a bit to see how shiny the copper is. I'd then replace the receptacle with a new one at least just in case, they're pretty cheap. Intermittent usage from...

Model 3 - LR AWD Waiting Room

If only I could afford the $1800/mo. I'd have to move back in with my parents. I don't think they'd agree to a 37yo moving back in just to afford payments on a car! haha! Either that or I'd have to sell everything I own, drop all other hobbies, and start a hot dog and ramen diet... Small price...

Model 3 - LR AWD Waiting Room

Man that blue looks good!! I contemplated hard as $1000 is fairly small in the grand scheme of the whole purchase, but it also feels like a lot just for a color. I've never been one to care what color something is when I buy it. (cars, motorcycles, atv's, etc.) I couldn't decide between blue...

Model 3 - LR AWD Waiting Room

So I called my service center today. I ordered 4/16 and my EDD is June 4 to June 8th. He looked it up and the car is currently in transit in Chicago. That's weird as that's further east than MN. I wonder if they ship a bunch by rail to a major hub then distribute by truck from there... Anyway...
