Does a battery ever have a positive ROI with net metering

Interesting approach. I think the battery return for me was a bit longer (~19-20years) based on the TOU rate differential and a peak shaving strategy. We just don't experience power outages here like other areas. I charge the car during windows of opportunity when we're either producing MAX...

Does a battery ever have a positive ROI with net metering

I'd like to see how that works for your specific case. In my scenario there are pennies to be had daily, but no ROI on the Batteries in >10 years

Does a battery ever have a positive ROI with net metering

I searched for the plans and read through the solar addendums to the plan. You get straight credits for all solar generated, and charged for all consumption based on plan. Essentially, you are paying all tariffs and taxes on all electricity used and then credited the solar production...

Does a battery ever have a positive ROI with net metering

Check your bill! You have to be paying a grid tie fee based on size of solar system, and also may be charged for each KW of energy used at 9cents. Hence the credit for all energy produced. You are only getting credit for net energy put on the grid, and your solar consumed is taxed but there...

Does a battery ever have a positive ROI with net metering

Mesure of the number of viable charge/discharge cycles is right around 3600. After that it may be a target of 70% capacity, but you can't count on it - and warranty is over. Even at that usable is diminished to even less stored charge, battery cannot be fully discharged without potential...

Does a battery ever have a positive ROI with net metering

I've looked at it time and time again. My energy supplier has multiple rate plans and uses a demand rate to cut off-peak hours to the minimum on certain plans. Even with the $100-$120 per month in demand surcharge savings doing peak shaving and a reduced off peak rate. The break even point...

    Supercharger Full

Spinning off a profitable business unit may be a challenge. After all, subscriptions (Including SC usage) are going to be the major profit centers to Support Elon's strategy. In the traditional sense, the subscription services at Tesla are the SUV that everyone buys from ford, gm, etc, so the...

    Supercharger Full

the golden age of owning a Tesla is behind us. Gone are the days when you could grab a coffee and talk to another Tesla owner for a few minutes while charging. V3 is fast enough to get you in and out, and the masses have caught on to the convenience (not value) of owning an EV. I expect...

    Catastrophic AC failure

didn’t pivot but got specific about why I am not a fan of book time. Yes it sure is an accounting problem in an industry that does its best to mask 150 year old technology and prevent people from making simple repairs or mystifies servicing their vehicle. Agree the book can a basis for labor...

    Catastrophic AC failure

I understand the perspective. I’m not agreed with the practice. And to be clear I have not expressed opinion about the wage people earn by my objecting to labor rate x book hours. The service department at Tesla or any traditional dealer is profiting. 200-300 per hour to do a job inflated...

    Catastrophic AC failure

You are saying that most people prefer to be treated as if they are ignorant to the fact that labor is being over charged by the job, than I suppose yes you are correct.
  13. T

    Catastrophic AC failure

Sorry don’t agree. I am because I am aware that the 100% longer scenario is not nearly as frequently as the scenario I cited. Most services over time evolve to have shortcuts and workarounds that avoid going to the book time. The only thing the book rate does is prevent an argument with...
  14. T

    Catastrophic AC failure

That's a general problem with auto industry. Tesla writes the repair manual and specifies job hours. Labor rates are regional, but the job can usually get done with shortcuts and they'll still charge you the full labor rate against book specified job hours. The practice should be illegal.

I don't know the statue in PA. In Arizona there is a state statue that prohibits ICE parking in EV charging spots.

Model Y climate battery usage unusually high (50% battery while driving)

I'm on 2023.20.9 as well. No real observable changes. I can say that when the temp drops efficiency improves greatly. I don't have good datapoints such as Ambient air temperature and measured wh/mi. I do know at temps <100 I can get 270-290wh/mi. I do believe battery cooling is a...

Model Y climate battery usage unusually high (50% battery while driving)

A solar panel to run a modest climate control could help. Cabin overheating would benefit from light absorption by the panel as well. I don't think that the panel could cool/heat in extremes. Also if there is any sense for the panels in the roof extending range in any meaningful way don't...

    Supercharger - Wickenburg, AZ

Its time for a charge station rating upgrade. And certainly some more chargers there. I've been through on weekdays and weekends and the limited chargers are always full with a wait most times on weekends. The more I do this trip, the more I think WikiUP is a better bail out point for...

Model Y climate battery usage unusually high (50% battery while driving)

Maybe you feel cool air. I do too. However iIf your cabin temp is 147, like mine was leaving surprise on Saturday afternoon, no matter what the ac type cooling is going to be affected by the amount of CFMs the fans can push across the condenser coils. You could have a 5 ton inverter in your car...

Model Y climate battery usage unusually high (50% battery while driving)

The set point is not a switch. In using any kind of thermostat to manage the air-conditioning function, home, car or other you should set it to the temperature that is considered desired and allow the thermostat to control the mechanical system. Doing anything other is going to be less...

Model Y climate battery usage unusually high (50% battery while driving)

Similar issues for me: Trip Friday from Las Vegas to Phoenix used 85% battery to go 175 miles (White hills SC to Wickenburg). The energy app blamed about 30% of the energy consumption on climate. Arrived in Wickenburg with 8%, and had taken 6% extra at white hills due to excess luggage and...

Questions on Tesla Solar Inverter vs. Enphase Microinverters

First let me offer that in Arizona I would recommend you go with the full 125% demand rated system. Second in my Tesla designed and built system they used string inverters with optimizers. I think in Arizona the use of strings is ok (I am in PHX as well) so long as you do not have major...

Remove tax and fees from loan?

By conversely applying the associative rule of addition you are taking away the value of those fees as you increase the down payment amount. 2+2 must be = to 4 on the opposite side of the equation. However Tesla computes the bottom line balance of the loan is not relevant to what fees you...

    Elon Mode

My sense on this is that you have to introduce a device on the bus to modify the signal real time to achieve the desired outcome. I suspect this is how TSLA themselves do it as well. Allowing a mode like this to be enabled via software is very likely to draw the attention of NTSB and other...

Homelink Not Available for 2023 Model Y?

LiveKey app and a little bit of automation to run a script on your phone can close any myQ garage door or open it based on your proximity to home. I wouldn’t recommend buying the homelike adapter for 210-350 or paying for the subscription. This can all be done for free. And it works. My...

new long range model Y with very low EPA range

Have you tried to reboot the car? I have noticed the last few symptoms related to battery drain are an indicator or a function of a software update. Usually kick-starting it helps address idle drain problems.

Are There EVs on the Market Currently Offering a Better Energy Efficiency?

There are losses in the charging process. What energy you attempt to put in to the car during charging does not all make it in to the battery. During AC charges there are losses at the internal inverter, to make the conversion to DC before any power hits the battery. Even in DC charging there...

Homelink Not Available for 2023 Model Y?

You can buy an add on home link device for <$20 on Amazon that will retrofit your current opener. Agree on sub fee. Really a tax to enable a button in the car. I created a series of shortcuts on my phone that determine my location and open/close the garage door without the subscription. No...

Hidden fees when selling to dealership?

Perhaps it is. While it doesn’t make sense for us to use a third party if you can imagine handling many open loans and processing both payments and payoffs the dealer may use a service to handle this and avoid having to pay for an accounting resource to do the work.

MAR2023: My Experience Driving 1,367mi Down Into California and Back

Looks like there is a Shell Recharge at Quinn River Station. If you have CCS charging capability, you can buy the adapter for about 200 bucks and this will make your trip seamless. Also EV key benefit isn't going to save you on roadtrips. You do best charging at home. If you must pay to...

    Telsa 80/ 20 or 90/10 rule

Charging at high rates, and hard discharging will generate heat. My understanding is that the heat cycles produce crystalline structures in the electrolytic substrate within the battery. The crystalline structures raise overall internal resistance as well as creating shunts to prevent electron...

    Telsa 80/ 20 or 90/10 rule

OP - following this, you need 60A breaker to charge @ 48A. Make sure the breaker has the correct Amp load rating and C rating. Breakers trip due to excess heat, which is the primary identifier of a short. Shorted current should go to ground if wired properly and not cause an issue in the...

Going on a 500 mile trip and the car and ABRP are totally different. Looking for advice.

Could do things to optimize like slow down 5mph, increase tire pressure by 2-3lbs, and manage weight of bags/cargo. 267 seems high. Aim for 255-260 @ 75mph. Let autopilot manage to avoid unnecessary changes in speed.

Agree on motivation from Tesla to keep you on the tit. Nice all on bucket v Gila. I have not made this trip yet. What is your typical SOC once you arrive in RP, and are you ok doing things around town and heading out or do you use the mobile charger to top off the night before you depart from RP?

Going on a 500 mile trip and the car and ABRP are totally different. Looking for advice.

I know that my thought here is going to come out as super-conspiracy theory, but let’s say at 40cents/kw that tesla is insented while charging to let you go over for the additional charge. ABRP has no skin in the game. I do like ABRP as a second to the tesla map. It certainly has let me...
