    Toyota offering yoke.

Toyota offering yoke but one step higher in tech drive by wire! 150 degree lock to lock. Brilliant idea with no hand fumbling. https://www.yahoo.com/news/toyota-copying-teslas-controversial-steering-130500722.html

Rich is right you guys are troglodytes. Don’t look it up: Close minded cave dwellers.

I am too. When I mentioned how hybrid power holds the overall lap record with the Porsche 919 I was told that hybrids are washed up technology. End of any discussion.

    Automotive Arms Race.

The official time listed on the Nurburgring wiki is 7:35. Not sure what that 7:30 time is.

Looks like the Plaid is in good company.

    Automotive Arms Race.

I’m looking to buy a Plaid. Hardly a troll.

    Automotive Arms Race.

Yes that’s impressive lap time. I honestly didn’t think we would get an official time with the crash earlier this week and the steering yoke. But it looks like they set that time with the yoke too. Congratulations!

    Automotive Arms Race.

I know amazing. But you have to admit bold claims have been made of the Plaid by the company spokesman and that’s the only impressive spec we have so far.

    Automotive Arms Race.

The inevitable full EV adoption will come from government mandate. Let’s not kid ourselves in our echo chamber here From a pure performance point of view at the highest levels of Motorsport competition BEV will not be as fast in a track setting as the battery tech sits right now. Also...

    Automotive Arms Race.

Looks like the Plaid is starting an automotive arms race among the luxury marks. Ferrari and Lamborghini AMG Hybrids will bring the pain to Tesla. Best of both worlds. Instant torque and faster recharge. Plus Nurburgring dominance.

Seeking experience - total loss from Flood (NY Metro)

You don’t know if it’s a total loss yet. I think you’re jumping ahead too far here. Wait for a mechanic’s assessment. Personally I thought these battery boxes are water tight. Might be something simple.

    Should ICEs be sabotaged proactively?

I really don’t understand your post. The carbon contribution to the environment from classic cars is probably so low to be unmeasurable compared to the world CO2 output.

    Nurburgring and Plaid

I can’t find which trim model was raced at the Nurburgring. Every article I read just says Porsche Taycan. Not Turbo S. The range of Taycan weights is vast going all the way up to the porky 5101lbs. Sheezs.

    Nurburgring and Plaid

Plaid S 4766lbs Taycan 4568lbs model 3 Perf. 4250. Track cars do better the lighter they are. makes sense the model 3 would do better then the other two.

    Nurburgring and Plaid

The yoke looks pretty cool I must admit. I just watched a video of a plaid owner driving around town with the yoke. Unfortunately he hit the horn button by accident and it’s weird with a total rotation lock to lock of 900 degrees. For a yoke input I’d think it should be 300-400 degrees like...

    Nurburgring and Plaid

Interesting. The regen torque from the motors is not enough to help the stock brakes? I always thought the electric motors helped the brake’s longevity. So I’m guessing it really comes down to better heat management.

    Nurburgring and Plaid

Any news on Plaids Nurburgring testing? Will it beat the Taycan?

Tesla in the Pikes Peak hill climb

I think I confused this attempt along with the Nurburgring test runs in 2019 which I think were from the factory. I guess there will be more attempts in the future for the plaid. Do you think it can improve substantially more?

Tesla in the Pikes Peak hill climb

I definitely can see from that VW video how the pikes peak racing plays to the EVs advantages. No power loss at altitude and 5-10 mins of fast discharge. About the same amount of time for one lap at the Nurburgring.

Tesla in the Pikes Peak hill climb

Ok. But Tesla is a $600 billion company. Whose David and whose Goliath? I’m sure Tesla have spent at least $300K on this racing project. Plus they have one of the best Pikes Peak drivers to pilot. I doubt he drives for free. As see in F1 getting traction from aerodynamics is much better...

But the plaid was beaten by a 1996 BMW M3 by 10 sec. https://livetiming.net/ppihc/

Tesla Wins Exhibition Section of 2021 Pikes Peak Race

I’m a bit disappointed with the plaids performance actually. It has a huge hp advantage along with AWD and torque vectoring and it’s not affected by atmospheric pressure losses. It should have moved higher in the standings. A 1996 BMW M3 beat it by 10 seconds for 9th place overall...
