    Solar Roof, big price increase

    - Day 49: 11 Aug 2021 - Tesla not on site. System is functionally complete. Materials remain in the driveway, the porta potty is still here, the gutters have not been re-installed and we haven't even discussed the punch-out list yet. The cricket is a disaster that will require a complete...

    Solar Roof, big price increase

Man, I wish. Due to the various hips and valleys, we will only make it to 60% (estimated).

Powerwall 2+ or wait for the 3?

Hey JJ, yeah, solar roof. The on-site PM said that the panel crews are quicker on the install ... mostly due to not having to tear off the existing shingles.

Powerwall 2+ or wait for the 3?

Most likely. Half of the installation team was from Florida on loan to Pennsylvania.

Moving a Powerwall to a new home

I've read a few of these ... "moving my Powerwalls" posts. For kindofblue, and you don't need to answer, but why did you take them with you? Is it due to scarcity or cost recovery or something else?

    2 vs 3 Powerwalls

In that boat right now. Our system was installed about a month ago. The roof is not yet done, but the system works. 11.46 kW with 2 Powerwalls. We were hit with the price increase, but Tesla is reimbursing us for the second Powerwall. Now that the system has been working, we should have...

    Discussion: "Powerwall +"

Interesting. I have Cat6 throughout the house and asked Tesla if they needed / wanted drops for any of the equipment. They told me that Ethernet is no longer supported and that they would use Wi-Fi only.

    Modification question

Had a similar experience. We initially started with a design for panels. Then a redesign. Then scrapped that and moved to shingles, with a redesign of those as well. Emails would usually take a week to reply. Design engineering turn-around was 2 -3 weeks each time. Just a note, this is not...

    Solar Roof, big price increase

So, my issue is that there is nothing wrong, structurally or technically, with the roof. That is, the panels, or in my case the shingles, the electrical components or the work involved in installing this system. What has been inexcusable is the very basic work related to vinyl siding, stone...

    Solar Roof, big price increase

Very sorry to hear this, jimm01. "My guess is there are many customers out there with jobs that are hacked." I suspect that you are right. As this progresses, I keep posting updates here.

    Solar Roof, big price increase

Yeah ... this part of the process is somewhat painful. We went into this with the understanding that we are "crash test dummies" in a sense. There are a fair number of things that need to be worked out on Tesla's side. But this type of knowledge (general home exterior), this casual /...

    Solar Roof, big price increase

"I don’t know why they needed to use such tall flashing for the RoR panels." Interestingly, that is what the Tesla guy said the first time he saw it. No counter flashing originally. The flashing from the cricket originally over-lapped the shingles by 3 or 4 inches. The roofers cut that off...

Yeah, need to clean this up.

    Solar Roof, big price increase

Time is already wearing us down. Tesla has been off-site since 1 July due to the need to rent and safety train on a scissor lift. So our roof, while electrically functional, is not complete. We and Tesla are currently expecting the first week of Aug to be back on site to finish up.

    Solar Roof, big price increase

Oh ... it's going to get worse. Just off center, on the bottom of the photo, you can see where the original gutters met the side of the house ... the stone facing was cut around the gutters. The new gutters are 6 inches while the old ones were 3 inches. I have no expectation that the roofers...

    Solar Roof, big price increase

Dealing with the same thing on my installation. Despite the discussion with the roofer (tear-off and dry-in) and the Tesla install team, this is the result. This is going to take a fair amount of time to fix.
