2024 Model Y LR (Austin build)

WRONG - see links on this very website. Tesla has used non-US batteries on the MY-RWD and has less tax credit as a result https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/2024-us-model-y-rwd-battery-type-and-size.320253/page-2

2024 Model Y LR (Austin build)

There IS NO DIFFERENCE of substance between Fremont and Austin-built cars. I don't know where this urban legend comes from. There are however MODEL DIFFERENCES, but ALL CURRENTLY FOR SALE USE ONLY REAR MEGACASTS MY-RWD uses LFP batteries and is 2 wheel drive (RWD), standard suspension. It may...

    18" wheel on model Y

that's not how radial tires behave. beads have to seat. the casing doesn't stretch or squat.
  8. T

    18" wheel on model Y

255/55/18 is about all you can muster on a standard offset wheel. reason: turning radius. 255 tire width just clears fender liners in a static lock-to-lock steering test. In the real world, I get a very minor 1" square rub spot. NBD. If you want to play with wheel offsets, or wheel spacers...

    18" wheel on model Y

tire diameter with more sidewall is the only way tires will get you more comfort. it's a modest gain but is there. you have about 3/4" (measure from your tires to the steering knuckle) to play with in terms of how much taller a tire can be over the MY stock 255/45/19. that can be done using 18"...

Koni - Special Active (Red - Formerly FSD) and Sports (Yellow) - Coming Soon for Model 3 and Y

you have touched on what really happens. you get used to it. the suspension doesn't much if any settle in. I suggest that you try to take some demo rides in cars MYLR that have different suspensions installed. this is not easy and will take some time to find cars local to you.

you have a M3 with LFP batteries? because that's the recommended usage of said battery. In a MYLR or MYP based on Panasonic 2107, it's 20-80 for normal usage.
  15. T

2024 Model Y LR (Austin build)

FALSE Only MY-AWD variants out of Austin ever had both F+R castings, and all those had 4680 batteries. MYLR VARIANT ONLY EVER HAD 2170 batteries and ONLY REAR CASTINGS. It never has had front castings. Whether made in Fremont or in Austin, exact same car.

Regulators have to come up with rules and metrics that most everyone can agree on. Otherwise they become unenforceable if ignored. So watered-down metrics are the result. It's not about Elon, it's about politics. Save your hate.

Hips...Easier to get in and out of a Model Y than a Model 3/

I ran a Chevy Avalanche for 350K miles. What a breeze getting in/out. My torso never twisted...... However, my hips didn't appreciate sitting all those miles, even though the seats were good.

Hips...Easier to get in and out of a Model Y than a Model 3/

even with 'Easy Access' fully moving the steering wheel up and away, the M3 is demonstrably more difficult getting into and out of. For me, getting out is the challenge. And I'm only 6' and 200lbs. I used to be athletic.....

    2024 Ys 10% off already

FALSE The only MY variant that used 4680 batteries is the MY-AWD. The ONLY one. EVER. The MY-AWD is only manufactured in Austin. But MYLR with 2170 cells is ALSO manufactured in Austin. 4680 chemistry is NOT LFP and never will be. The 4680 dry film manufacturing process cannot utilize that...

Can Y open garage door without myQ?

eye of the beholder. simple works for me. costs me nothing but a button press. clicker is hidden behind the display. no one thinks to look there. not worth all the other layers of onion needing to be gone thru. and the net result is the same - my gate and garage door open and close when needed.
  24. T

Can Y open garage door without myQ?

I just use the garage door clicker. no extra cost, comes with the garage door opener. I velcro it on the lower left behind the display panel. no one sees it, easy for driver to access. no fees. works every time, for garage and for community gate. in fact, it's got three buttons for use...

Discussion: Resale values - depreciation -- Time to buy resale or wait?

Elon will not retreat from making sure his factories stay busy. Since he has the profit margins others don't, that means Tesla is still not tapped out on price reductions. Tesla sets the standard, yet 2M vehicles per year represents only a small percentage of annual industry unit volume...

    Major Phantom Braking Issues

as well, the amount of emotion talking is also stunning. no one....NO ONE...on this or other threads is actually involved in writing Tesla's code, or GM's Blue Cruise, or Ford's whatever. so demanding sensors of any type really is reaching.

Who uses an alternative to Rennstand jack stands for rotating tires and other work on their Tesla?

overkill. more robust. not much difference in price i DID say MAX 😀
  28. T

Who uses an alternative to Rennstand jack stands for rotating tires and other work on their Tesla?

all you need is a 3 ton floor jack max. see Harbor Freight Tools. remember, you're not lifting the whole 4450lb vehicle, just one corner. that gets two wheels in the air and it's all you need to change / rotate wheels. an inexpensive option, to add to the floor jack, is just standard jack...

How often do you use a Supercharger?

My Tesla App says 94% Home and 6% Supercharger for the last 12 months. Lifetime of my MYLR probably same.

    Major Phantom Braking Issues

I frankly don't think more camera resolution is going to make or break FSD. NN is about behavior not perfection of imaging. However, radar may need adding back to cover the poor visibility issues of weather, snow, rain etc. That appears to have happened on the HW4 for MS and MX, but definitely...
  31. T

    Major Phantom Braking Issues

the difference is that BlueCruise is hard-coded stacks requiring significantly larger compute power. which Tesla abandoned in favor of NN learning. but in the short term, a meaningless difference. over the longer term it will be increasingly significant, both in terms of driving competence and...

1-1.5 Million Miles of video footage needed before real progress, according to FSD development engineering team, as reported in Walter Issacson's book on Elon.
  33. T

    Major Phantom Braking Issues

given that the FSDb stack is now Neural Net based, not as hard coded, what's lacking isn't radar - it's video frames of similar environments / circumstances. The large majority of footage for FSDb to learn from, is from where lots of Tesla cars are in operation. That's NOT the open plains of...

Tesla shipping U.S. built cars to Canada again.

to my knowledge, both the Shanghai and Fremont MYLR use Panasonic 2170 batteries in packs of 82kWh. Other models of the Shanghai MY probably use additional local battery vendors, particularly for LiFePO chemistry units like the RWD.

thanks for stopping by. we'll clean up after you. reminder: MSM has zero advertising income from Tesla, making it a target of any exaggeration possible. "if it burns or it bleeds....it leads" we have no way of knowing the actual truth behind those incidents.

Tesla shipping U.S. built cars to Canada again.

We can only guess, but with Shanghai feeding cars to Europe and shipping taking longer for that, the ships available might be limited so Tesla delivers now from Fremont / Austin.

Is the new Macan EV a MY killer?

maybe I'm misreading your post, but you shouldn't be needing to navigate around charging infrastructure if you're charging in the garage. Or are you meaning road trips? Is the new Macan EV a MY killer?

A more honest category definition for both the Macan and the Cayenne would be as Crossovers, not SUVs. Like the MY, another crossover.

Porsche shares that capital investment with all the other firms in the Piech (Piche?) family of companies. Porsche, Audi, VW, Bentley there's accounting (how it's all divided up), and then there's accountability; who takes the blame.

Is the new Macan EV a MY killer?

THE NOT SO GOOD Macan EV starts at 80K but with the performance of an entry-level Model 3. The entry level version Macan is 50% more expensive than a MYLR, has less performance, and 40% less cabin space. The entry level Macan has about the same range as the MYLR, again for 50% more cost. Macan...

19 inch vs 20 inch wheels ride quality

the primary thing that aftermarket wheels offer is weight reduction. most don't even do that, and you're paying for every ounce. what efficiency that adds isn't much, and beyond that, it's just aesthetics. probably the best bang for buck is just new aero-efficient wheel covers that might...
