Sorry to revive such an old thread, but this is EXACTLY the problem I've been having with my new Model S. Will be using clay to see if it works too, which I believe will be less abrasive than full-on orbital polishing using the polishing mixture. Note: definitely do not use newspaper, too...

I'm personally going to be using Griot's windshield clay to get rid of some weird spotting on the windshield all over (seems to only show up when wet).

Seconding Griots polisher. Something with a very mild abrasive in the mixture so you can smooth out the scratches you made. One thing I'm not 100% sure on is if Tesla coats the glass with anything from the factory, in which case you'd risk rubbing that off (but I don't think they do...).
