    Trip Planning

ABRP is great. It gives you a decent understanding of battery usage, where your Superchargers are, and allows you to play with variables (passengers, luggage weight, temperature, wind, elevation changes). Once I've planned out a route I'm happy with, I'll tend to build it into my Tesla nav...

App that Works with Tesla Trip Planning

Plenty of hotels have an onsite charger these days, Plugshare is your friend to find these. You'll need the J1772 adapter, and sometimes a Chargepoint card - but they are still mostly free and you wake up with a full battery in the morning. Generally, the I-95 drive is a sea of mediocre fast...

Trouble sleeping at “private” destination chargers?

This has actually recently happened to me. I check in to an otherwise ordinary Marriott in a small town, and find a J-1772 charger in the parking lot. Charger has an alarm-type keypad on it, and a big sign directing you to the front desk for the code. So I ask for the code (after checking in...

Trouble sleeping at “private” destination chargers?

Dude, either pay $150 for the room like the rest of us or use a Supercharger. Free electrons are great, but what you’re doing is stealing something that does not belong to you, and is provided as an amenity for paying hotel guests. This is no different than if you snuck into the hotel lobby in...

    Leather wrap for yoke

My yoke is peeling and it’s starting to annoy me. There are plenty of posts about the problem and the possibility of getting it replaced under warranty. I never liked the material anyway, so seems silly to just replace it with the same sandpaper vinyl. Has anyone found a place that makes...

    2023 Model X

Turns out you get pretty used to the phone key. As a result I also downsized my key ring, and still manage to forget it pretty often! I only ever take the fob when I know I‘m going to valet park the car. But even then every valet knows how to manage the card. Unless you have some really good...

    2023 Model X

Tesla sells them online - currently for $175 a pop which is annoying because I got 2 included with my MX just 6 months ago. I recommend buying one of the aftermarket rubber cases for them which makes it harder for the buttons to accidentally press in your pocket. Some of the aftermarket online...

Scratched my new X front rim :(

MX is pretty wide - the placement of the wheels takes a bit of getting used to. The sensors are your friends and if you listen to them you will not have a problem. I too curbed my wheels while being stupid. Found a great local guy reviewed on a TMC forum, met him in the back of a sketchy car...

Tesla Partnership with Buc-ee's (26 New Locations)

Buc-ees stops are the highlight of any roadtrip…but it’d be hard to get out of there in 30 minutes. Your car will be ready long before you are. It’s a huge store and there’s too much to see / eat / buy. They are going to need a massive number of stalls, and need to think about idle fees here...

Refreshed 2021/2022 Model X Owners Thread

I’m getting this also, but ONLY for the first drive of the day — like it’s still warming up or something. After the first mile or two it’s gone. Only “flaw” in 3 months / 3k miles is a loud creak in the driver‘s seat — happens whenever I take my foot off the accelerator and regen kicks in. If...

Model X as a daily driver?

Driving a MX daily for 2 months and I am an excited kid with a new toy every time I get into the drivers’ seat. Works great for 1, 2 or 4 people. 6 is tight for long stretches but doable. I miss armrests and keep confusing the horn/wiper buttons, but it’s still an amazing car.

    Long Island Curb Rash Repair

This guy does amazing work. Paul completely fixed some baaad curb rash - my wheels actually look better than new. Tesla wheels apparently have a crappy coating, which helps keep him in business. He also mentioned that he’s gotten a lot more Teslas since the OP 3 years ago. Definitely...

    Supercharger - Malta, NY

Fast charge and super easy. This one is right off I-87, clean bathrooms, picnic tables outside and really good ice cream. Stewart's is really limited on food, but we found a great deli called Pelligrino Imports 5 min away and got HUGE sandwiches to eat while we charged. Charging was done...

    Supercharger - Shirley, NY

This is NOT a great neighborhood, and too far off NY-27. I charged here Friday lunchtime, and had to contend with a homeless dude smoking a joint right next to my car as I was unplugging. Too isolated at the back of a run-down mall in an otherwise seedy area. I definitely wouldn't suggest...

Planning a 8000 km road trip next summer

You only have 3-4 weeks, but with your proposed route won’t have time to actually see anything. This is WAY too much time in the car unless you have 3-4 months to see it all. American highways are *mostly* long and boring with not much to see. And if you’re doing it in summer, much of the...

Thoughts on Yoke from Plaid owner

A month into ownership, I really like the yoke, including the buttons. It was incredibly well thought out, but requires a bit of a mindshift from the way we’ve been driving before. I also spent a long time adjusting the yoke position to get it right. That’s not to say my hands don’t...

Recapping my 3500 mile road trip frustrations

This isn’t a perfect science…yet. We are 100% beta testing a new way of living, and it will take time before there’s convenient and fast charging on every street corner. PlugShare and ChargePoint do have somewhat better descriptions of where the chargers are hiding, so worth making notes in...

Wiki Model X Refresh Issues Thread

Been driving my new MX Plaid for about 10 days now, and I’m very impressed with call quality and sound. I was on calls from the car all morning today, including while at a very loud Supercharger, and nobody even asked/noticed where I was. I came from a pretty loud ICE SUV so the difference is...

Refreshed 2021+ Model X and Model X Plaid waiting room

Picked up my Plaid MX today — kudos to the Mt. Kisco NY staff who helped me out and advanced the appointment by 2 days. I arrived early and was out within 30 minutes. In the event something was catastrophically wrong with the vehicle, I would refuse to sign the hard copy sales agreement. I’ll sign it AFTER I’ve poked around with seats and screens. Anything cosmetic can be dealt with as a service item later, I understand the risks and am willing to take it...

I attended one last night on Teams. They play a PowerPoint deck and answer questions in the chat. Even the audio part of the presentation seemed to be pre-recorded. If you’ve been hanging out on TMC while waiting months and months, you probably know 95% of it. Reminder to install charging at...

Just got a VIN on 6 seat Plaid. White/White/20”/no FSD. Ordered back in Feb when a few people were getting Plaids way faster than LRs. EDD showing as Memorial Day weekend, not quite sure how that will shake out, but I’ll be there whenever they can get me in. Mt. Kisco NY delivery. No real...

Because of the Nazis, my family is a LOT smaller than should be. So yes, this meme is wrong, disgusting and justifies not buying a car that will put money in his pocket.

    Politics - Quarantine Thread

There is no reason - none at all - for a tech CEO to post the photo of a dictator responsible for mass genocide. And terrifying that the post has over 100k likes. But I guess some right wing nut job will order the Model X I‘m about to cancel. I won’t give my money to this kind of a...

It’s one big piece of the puzzle for sure. As a country, we have a shortage of 80,000 truck drivers. I work in supply chain, and it’s absolutely brutal out there. Rates are 2-10x pre-pandemic numbers, waiting times to get freight hauled can be days if not weeks. It’s bad everywhere, but the...

Not at all how the sales guy aggressively sold me on this car last summer. I was very clear I needed it by a drop dead date, and he “promised” me he would make it happen. This was my intro to a new car brand. Coming from BMWs and Mercedes, where dealers tend to have the inventory to back up...

Refreshed 2021+ Model X and Model X Plaid waiting room

Seems like 1 year from order until delivery is probably a reasonable estimate for most of us. That’s what was inferred on my last call with a Tesla manager. Truly no consideration that we ordered cars based on when we needed them to live our lives. EDDs are truly meaningless, because Tesla...
