Tesla auto wipers is a real danger

I paid $65k for a car that cannot figure out how to make wipers work automatically. Unbelievable. This is not new technology, my 2017 MX3 worked like a charm... same with the auto high-beams. My 2014 M6 was the same. Hell, the last 2019 Focus crapbox rental was flawless.

Winter tires and wheels for Model Y Performance

I went with a set of 20x8.5 Enkei TSR-X's with Michelin Crossclimate 2's in 245/40/20. Though not technically snow tires, they are snow rated and seem to be held in high esteem by those who must deal with a lot of the white stuff. Add to that the compound will be far more durable and apt to take...

    Holy Cow

What I experienced on Soco was oversteer, understeer is definitely not an issue with mine.

    Holy Cow

Today was the first real mountain run I've made in the MYP so I wasn't really sure what to expect. Soco was a bit busy on the way up, I was able to wind through some traffic at a clip but was stuck behind a motorhome on the way down... bummer. On the way back up I was stuck again behind a...

    Dented Frunk?

I received a call from the tesla dealership day before yesterday saying that they had noticed a dent on the frunk of my Y which was scheduled to be picked up. The salesman went on to say that he had order a new one and that I would be notified when it came in to have it replaced. I was...

Looks like the Infrastructure Bill passes! (not the bill with EV tax credits)

Build Back Better Act contains the EV credits and it's a long ways from the finish line.

Yeah, that's not the bill with the tax incentives though.

Ha! You think other manufacturers are better? I work at a ford dealership, try looking online to see when your super duty is going to be delivered.

    Recent MYP Delivery Estimates

I think a lot of folks seem to forget that production delays are universal at this point and at least Tesla isn't tacking on 10-20k "market adjustments" like a lot of dealerships are.

Another 40K for a slower car that doesn't fit my needs, that's a hard no for me.

Absolutely, I'll test the times with each wheel set and post them up.

    rust under front seats

I've worked on seat frames on everything from high end BMW's to low end Fords and every one has had some amount of surface rust. Nobody uses stainless for seat frames and I've never seen one that was coated.

Uberturbine vs Gemini with aero covers efficiency in medium speed commute.

So the wheels that weight ten pounds less are more efficient, makes sense. Imagine if they were ten pounds lighter than those.

    I went with Vorsteiner SF-V's.

In a Tribute to Unsprung Weight

A 2" decrease in diameter would be similar to going from a 3:55 to a 3:73 gear. It would be barely noticeable and certainly nowhere near a .3 pickup in acceleration. I went from stock 20" wheels on my last M6 to forged 21" and dropped eighteen pounds per corner, the difference was night and...

In a Tribute to Unsprung Weight

Unsprung weight has a huge performance differential in gas powered vehicles and even more so in electric. As we can witness in the video, except making your Y look like a camry with the 18's you can run 20's with a lighter tire. Do what you want, this is how I'll be running mine.

In a Tribute to Unsprung Weight

The bottom line is that the wheels are 4-6 months backordered so we dunno but a 20lb drop in unsprung weight on each corner is very significant.

In a Tribute to Unsprung Weight

The importance of lightweight wheels is often overlooked in search of style and appearance. But maybe you can have both, at least to a certain point. I think the Y needs at least a 20" wheel to look correct and even a bit of drop to square that. So after much digging and tires sent back...

    Recent MYP Delivery Estimates

Mine still shows 11/7-11/27 on a 9/27 order. Frankly, I'd be fine with a post-december delivery as the wheels that I ordered a few days ago are on a 4-6 month production delay. I'm going to be out of the country for most of December anyway.
