FSD Beta Experience - Be Careful What You Wish For

I have to completely disagree. I am on FSD beta and for me it is very helpful. I take control in tricky situation at other times I let it drive and it does a good job. There is no stress involved. Only when making turns you have to watch for it, at turns you can take control make the turn let it...

Post Elon Update Poll on FSD

There is something everyone is completely missing. FSD may make fewer at fault accidents than humans but it won't make fewer total accidents. Everyone is counting how many accidents are caused by human error, but nobody is counting how many accidents have been avoided by humans. I have seen many...

FSD cannot make safe unprotected turns onto high speed roads

It is proven that it turns in front of fast approaching cars unsafely. It did it for me, it did it in many youtube videos. They may improve the detection range and fix it.

FSD cannot make safe unprotected turns onto high speed roads

Actually I have investigated this bc of my experience with 10.8 beta. It turns in front of the fast approaching cars, some youtube videos too show this behavior. It does not detect fast approaching cars. That is why I investigated, and their material lists the range as 80m, I assumed that must...

FSD cannot make safe unprotected turns onto high speed roads

Yes my mind will change. If they can see 200m sideways they should be able to make safe turns.

FSD cannot make safe unprotected turns onto high speed roads

@Tesla's #FSD cameras cannot detect a fast approaching car from sides at an intersection. Seeing a range of only 80m is not enough to make a safe unprotected turn onto a high speed road. A car that is approaching at 60 miles per hour will travel 80 m in 3 seconds, that is not enough time to make...

    FSD Edge cases

I agree that front cameras should have been placed near the edge of the car not in the middle. There can be obstacles that create blind spots for both cameras. Cameras are wide angle so they do cover everything with overlaps, but blind spots are possible.

    FSD Edge cases

There are cameras on the side pillars, they can see more on the left than you can.

Help me decide: Model Y or Mach-E

I own a model Y LR, I recently tested Mach-e premium awd, in terms of driving dynamics, performance, handling, range etc it is as good as Model Y and better in some aspects. And blue cruise is as good as AP. Tesla's advantage is FSD option and charging network. If you are not interested in...

    FSD Edge cases

I finally received FSD beta 10.5. It is very impressive. That said I have to intervene in average every 10 minutes of city driving. Every time it encounters a situation that it was not trained for it does the wrong thing. For example, I am going straight, stopped at the trafic light, the light...

Auto-steer does not slow down at curves

Actually the new one is not for highways it is for city. Even with the new one when you get on the highway it switches to the old one. They are two different stacks. So yes they do need to improve highway stack.

Auto-steer does not slow down at curves

    Not FSD beta. Auto-steer beta

Auto-steer does not slow down at curves

Does it slow down when there are no other cars in front of you? Are you using auto pilot or auto steer? many highways curve so much that going a little above speed limit can be very dengerous.
  15. B

Auto-steer does not slow down at curves

I know it is beta, but handling curved roads properly should have made to the beta. Curved roads are everywhere.

Auto-steer does not slow down at curves

I am driving 2021 MY with FSD. When using auto-steer it enters tight curves at full speed, it manages to stay in lane but makes a very uncomfortable ride. Things fly around in the car. Are all cars like this? I am wondering how Tesla team did not consider a solution for such a common problem...

    FSD Edge cases

Interpolation and extrapolation: Each training data is a point in a multi dimensional space. The space is infinite, but driving situations cover a certain area in that space. So does the training data. When you encounter a situation that falls somewhere in that area AI can do a very good job...
  18. B

    FSD Edge cases

I think problem isn't the complexity. Fundamentally trained IA can only interpolate, its extrapolations can be very inaccurate. When humans encounter a situation that is not similar to anything that they have seen before they can use their learning in other areas to extrapolate what is the...

    FSD Edge cases

This is just my personal informed opinion. I don't think L4-5 "everywhere" is possible without road upgrades, have you seen roads in Istanbul or Mumbai? Waymo is only L4 in very few selected regions. Nowhere near working everywhere. TESLA NOA can be considered L4 on highways with proper lane...

Am I wrong in wishing FSD Beta had a lane change confirmation option like NOA?

You can always cancel a lane change attempt by turning off turn signal. I did not enable lane change confirmation in NOA, but when it shows it is going to change lanes, and I don't want it to then I turn off the dignal it cancels it. Since it shows you in advanced that it is going to change lane...
  24. B

    FSD Edge cases

L4-5 is only possible if 1. You remove all human drivers. Only self driving cars on the road. 2. You upgrade all the roads to have proper markings for FSD. Then it is possible

    Windows on Model Y

Since tint is applied from the inside, it is for uv and heat. I do not recommend windshield tinting unless you can't bear the heat while driving. Use a shade when parked. Windshield and its surroundings have many electronics that can get damaged during installation.
  26. B

    Windows on Model Y

OK, I concede that 5% of Texas heat is still pretty bad :) Note that tint does not reflect the heat, it absorbs it.

    Perfect safety score no beta

I have had 100 safety score for more than a week and more than 100 miles on 2021 MY, still did not recieve FSD beta. Do you know if there are any additional requirements? My car is new, only have 650 miles on it.

When will my car get updates? Its been AGES already!

Actually it does not make sense to send official releases in batches. That is what you do with betas. You send betas in batches to whoever you want, if it works on all samples you make it an official production release. Official production release means everyone can get it. It is unfair not to...

When will my car get updates? Its been AGES already!

Here is my problem with Tesla's update process. When they push a new release to some vehicles the release notes become public. I checked these release notes and say "great, all the features I want are in the latest software, time to buy a tesla" I buy the tesla to find out that it comes with the...

    Tesla Model Y Windshield Tint

Here is a test you can do to tell which part of the car needs tinting. Park under the sun for 5 minutes. Then touch the surface right below the glass where the sun hits. If it is hot that glass needs tinting, if not it does not. I tested my model Y, only front windows and windshield lets heat...

    Windows on Model Y

Roof already has 95% reduction in UV and heat, so people tinting the roof are just reducing the remaining 5%. Complete waste of money. Same for back Windows and rear glass. You can test this easily by touching interier surface of the car when parked under the sun. Touch areas that get sun light...

Summon failed, there is an issue communicating with your vehicle

I experience it too. I press the door handle once it wakes up, then it works. For me if it fails summon button does not come up. I have background app refresh off that maybe the reason.

    Small Screen Font on UI

You are way off the mark here. In other cars important information, speed time etc is always easily visible with a glimpse. All controls are through fixed buttons. Here you have to open menus, without ability to quickly read it is not usable. I am farsighted and I cannot see remaining range...
