Drago is a 3D perception guru with tons of deep learning expertise, like the Inception Net. His expertise is more mapping and modeling using deep learning, not sensors. And never on a podcast will a person showcase the pain points of their system. Of course data is great, more data is good...

LiDARs are great for retrieving high-resolution depth information, which can aid in sensor/data fusion, but I think there has yet to be a set standardization across all automotive LiDAR that tackles LiDARs breaking points. Most LiDAR companies establish their own standards and publish them. In...

    Aodhan AFF7's on Model Y's

Yeah it's the one that Simans82 said. It is a little different because I wrapped the bottom part of the stock lip to black it out. It's just some carbon fiber patterned vinyl to match the color of the lip.

Phantom braking so bad I want to return my car

Probably not relevant to the conversation, but was inspired by 'hallucinating'. Not sure if any of you have seen the DeepDream algorithm, but it reiterates the images backwards through the network to see what a higher confidence output would see. Really trippy...

Hey Rxilher! I still have the setup and we love it. Efficiency is less (maybe less than 10 wh/mi at highway speed? I don't know), though it's partially my driving and enjoying the handling and acceleration. Handling is great, seems to rotate better with a square setup. I did have a very slight...

Phantom braking so bad I want to return my car

I wish explainable AI was a thing that was available for Tesla's, but unfortunately the tech is still in its infancy. It's always those fringe cases that pop up which don't make sense. Especially on the consumer-side, I'd imagine not much 'explanation' in the way of human-machine interaction...

Phantom braking so bad I want to return my car

I think Tesla uses the same stack for TACC as for FSD, so if there are false positives, that would leave a lasting blip in the spatial RNN. In computer vision, there are false detections that would never make sense. This image is from Google AI Blog, where adding noise or images that seems...

Phantom braking so bad I want to return my car

Tesla's vision algorithm seems decently robust, though an improvement of 44.9% for VRU in the next beta means it still needs a good amount of improvement (only mitigates half of all phantom braking events). Most computer vision based applications I've seen and work with do have a good amount of...

    Looking for wheel suggestions.

For lightweight wheels, rotary forged is probably cheapest. Just make sure the wheels are at least half of the maximum gross axle wheel rating of the front and back (I think Model Y is 3307lbs, so wheels at least 1653lbs weight rating). I went with Aodhan AFF7 in 20x10.5, which are $337 a wheel...

    Lidar vs Camera revisited

I don't blame you with thinking current AI is a party trick. Current deep learning techniques are more or less similar to previous years techniques and hasn't really changed the paradigm of learning. I agree with you that the AI data model really is sloppy. I just hope you don't lose the wonder...

    Lidar vs Camera revisited

I think it is like how you said. Transferring all image features using NNs to a vector space as objects/trajectories and use a logic or another NN for planning the route. My guess is they are using some sort of reinforcement learning approach or genetic algorithm for the eventual NN planner. I...
  18. TheTheocracy

    Lidar vs Camera revisited

Yeah that makes sense. I've seen the push for NN-based planner, which would be cool. The current solution of a coarse search and a continuous optimization function, depending on the situation, seems like it may oscillate given a set of parameters and when situations change. I wonder if it is...

    Lidar vs Camera revisited

I wonder if the problems are not specifically a data problem but a training/method problem. Given that Tesla's self-driving stack is mainly deep NNs, it is hard to figure out what truly is the problem in misbehavior cases. Either it's empirically shown through percent accuracy or assumed through...

Vendor Show Off Your Aftermarket Model Y Wheels

No probably not, since it is a wide rim (unless you want super stretch), but you can get the 20x9 version and those should work. Not sure how the concavity looks with it, but should look nice.

    Lidar vs Camera revisited

I would frame LiDAR and cameras into two different formats: Get distance and then detect objects (LiDAR) Detect objects and then calculate distance (cameras) Having a distance calculation is imperative to self-driving. LiDAR is highly accurate, but almost needlessly accurate. Cameras must wait...

Phantom braking so bad I want to return my car

I've seen manufacturers compute HDR with a 12-bit camera and pump out an 'HDR-like' image composite (8-bit), but not sure the latency to process. In many cases, the composite functions much better than just having the raw 12-bit. Never heard of the DOL-HDR, that's a pretty cool concept! I have...

Phantom braking so bad I want to return my car

Yeah definitely! I wonder if they have some sort of HDR, auto-brightness, or auto-ISO built-in. I'm not sure what kind of cameras Tesla use, but if image enhancement can give the algorithms any benefit or lessen the load of that learning the dynamic range within the object detection modules, it...

Phantom braking so bad I want to return my car

Here is a cool low light image enhancement video that shows you can still extract information from heavily compressed dark imagery. I can imagine Tesla not using it because it would be very computationally expensive. But maybe they can incorporate something into their feature extraction network...

    Best Aggressive Wheel Offsets?

I don't think they would work, as the bolt pattern for the G20 M340i is 5x112 and the MY is 5x4.5 or 5x114.3. You might be able to do a re-drill on the rims to make them fit.

Phantom braking so bad I want to return my car

Monocular vision utilizes the disparities between frames instead of instantaneous side-by-side frames from stereo vision. It is still possible to obtain 3D from a single camera, given that either the camera (car) or the background moves. It's a harder problem with the camera moving forward...

Phantom braking so bad I want to return my car

The sensor-driven vs learning-driven system is always a topic for debate, as many researchers and companies try to give the most robust solution in the quickest time possible. I think multi-modal sensor platforms are always a quicker, more robust solution initially, but they have their own set...

These are Aodhan AFF7 and they supposedly weight 23.9lbs for 20x10.5. They do feel lighter carrying them, feels slightly quicker from a standstill, and turn-in feels better (probably due to the larger width in the front). One thing we noticed right away was the ride quality. Much smoother with a...

20x9.5 are a little tough to find, unless you go more custom. Most 20" wheels I have seen are 20x9 or 20x10.5. Aodhan AFF7 has a 20x9 ET30, but I think Titan 7 T-S5 has 20x9.5 ET35 that is similar in styling. There is a member on these forums that has the T-S5 20x10 in bronze, which look really...

Wheels and tires for for that X5 M look!!

Just found a Model Y on the Stance Wheels website with 295/30/21 in the front (square setup with 21x10.5), so maybe 295/35/20 square setup is possible. https://stancewheels.com/project/tesla-model-y-stance-sf10-brushed-dual-gunmetal/

No, I did not, but I would like to. Like Double-O said, it is a tad bit lower for the performance model (1/2"?). But I think maybe in the future getting coilovers to lower. Definitely to improve the ride quality as well.

Wheels and tires for for that X5 M look!!

Here is the AFF7 with full lock in the front (275/40/20). Definitely less than a finger gap, maybe 1/4 inch? I think 285/35 might fit, maybe even a 295/35 (might rub?).

    Aodhan AFF7's on Model Y's

Yeah I think so. On Aodhan's blog, it's advanced flow forging (hence AFF), so not technically forged. But we do have a larger profile tire, which is a plus, and it's much cheaper to replace if we get damage due to a massive pothole.

    Aodhan AFF7's on Model Y's

I have just talked with Aodhan about the load rating for the AFF7 20x10.5 ET35 and it's 1653lbs, similar to the 20" TY115 from T Sportline. I guess you can treat them as the 20" Induction wheels and limit towing weight. I actually have the same set on order in matte bronze.
