So much for Tesla's no resale clause - 11 Cybertrucks currently on Ebay

You'll be able to buy a nearly new CT for $85K in 90 days, and a normal used one for $55K in a year or 2 at the latest.

Interesting take on wrapping the Cybertruck

The Silverado EV is 2x the truck the CT is. That's not any sort of comparison really.

Cyber(nota)truck even more Not a truck than I first thought

Worth noting here is that GM came to market $10K LESS and with a full 10% more range with the EV Silverado, which was already class leading range btw. Not to mention that generally speaking their rated range is much more accurate than Tesla's. So, there is one at least that got 'early prototype...

    Silverado EV

All vehicles only cost a fraction of their actual production cost to build. The thing is that you have to amortize engineering, design, building plants, reduction of assets that could have been used for other projects, etc. which is why everyone needs to sell a lot to be profitable.

    Silverado EV

It was a joke Earl, but it's funny that you latched on to being able to see the screen in sunlight as your only complaint with my joke/ analysis. Which brings up another cheap ass thing, those roofs, which are awful, in TX anyways. Earl: ' Yes the cars are crap but that special bright screen...

    Silverado EV

How do they do it? No proper interior except a $99 iPad attached to the dash, small battery packs, cheap cast wheels, poor fit and finish and no paint on the CT. How do they sell them and make money at only $100K a pop? Amazing!

    Cybertruck is a scam.

I work in trucking in TX and domestic pickup trucks with 300K miles are a dime a dozen when driven by working men. My stepdad has 527K on his Ford F250, and it's a ranch truck. The guy 2 offices down has 380K on his Ram. I've had several over 200K & one over 450K when I was in college. A few...

    Cybertruck is a scam.

But why when the Silverado EV already does all of the things that you appear to want? The bed space, the battery capacity, the charging, not to mention the fit & finish, dealer support and even a lower price, etc.
  9. S

Am I crazy? Model Y without home charger...

This just a bad idea. It won't save the OP any money, but it will cause inconvenience and other limitations. A non-plug in hybrid is the correct choice for this application. EV's only make sense in a few situations, mostly you have a consistent home parking space with home charging (long-term...

    Cybertruck is a scam.

I'm no expert but I have read that paint won't stick to SS. If you think about it, can you think of any painted SS? When the CT was first announced the finish seemed great because it was supposed to be cheaper to manufacture due to no paint required, and less damage prone. It just doesn't...
  11. S

    Cybertruck is a scam.

Legit, Tesla should offer a painted stamped steel version of the CT. The SS exterior is sort of a nightmare. Yah, it's resistant to door dings. However, it's expensive, stain prone (odd it's called stainless steel), can't be painted, can be wrapped but wraps are expensive, and are easily damaged.

    Cyber truck sighting Riverside California

I guess it's an Austin thing because no exaggeration I spot 1-2 CTs every single day and have for a couple of months now. Of course all CTs pretty much look the same so it's probably the same 5 CT's that just live in the area. I see way more CT's than I see the Lyriq for example.

I'm in trucking as well and would love to be able to haul 88K legally. However, all that is happening is that due to freight backups at the LA Port, Newson is trying to increase the legal limit to 88K temporarily while leaving the port. Which won't work anyways as all the containers are packed...
  15. S

    Semi General Discussion

This, sadly, is completely off base. Newsom has proposed issuing temporary permits as there are huge backups at the LS Port with ships just waiting offshore. It actually doesn't work for several reasons including the weights the trucks are meant to haul as well as how the containers themselves...

So much for Tesla's no resale clause - 11 Cybertrucks currently on Ebay

I hear what you are saying about no need to reverse engineer, but it is common practice and frankly a very small part of their R&D budget and the asset can be sold off when done. Surely Ford and others want to see if Tesla did anything cutting edge in regard to the 4-wheel steering, the new...

    Honest review of the Cybertruck

I see 1-2 Cybertrucks per day here in Austin TX and have examined them up close when parked. Using my eyes, knowing the actual size of the battery pack and therefore able to predict real world range, looking at the (typical for Tesla) build quality, understanding the downsides of the SS...

    How will Tesla Semi supercharge?

CARB states will no doubt have EV Semi chargers sooner rather than later out of necessity.
  19. S

    Cybertruck is a scam.

Can we just state the obvious? Full size truck/ SUV EV's are stupid, plainly put. Hybrid is the way. EV trucks just become a battle of who can install the largest battery packs, which isn't good for the environment, other road users, or the buyer's pocketbook. EV's make great second/ third or...

    Cybertruck is a scam.

The beach driving ban probably has to do with endangered animal breeding grounds or even the safety of beach goers. It's not about CO2 since there are also roads and parking lots very close by.

    Anyone selling their Cybertruck?

Apparently another CT sold for $75k. It was mentioned in an EV podcast.

    Cybertruck Range Edmunds Test

I don't know of many new vehicles sold that don't utilize start/ stop technology while stopped.

    202X Roadster Delay Legal Action?

There is no substantial battery technology on the immediate horizon, just incremental improvements. The Roadster would certainly be slippery and with a bit of Musk exaggeration thrown in could be rated for 350-400 miles at a typical EV sedan weight. There is no magic however and Musk is not...

    202X Roadster Delay Legal Action?

Fair point but at least your stock had a chance of making you more money. Prepaying for a car was always going to be a 100% loser, and every day that passes makes it more of one. A buddy years ago told me that he placed a deposit on a custom ordered Porsche and when the transaction was...

    202X Roadster Delay Legal Action?

I feel a bit sad for the OP but I'm going to lay it on the line: 1) your price is not locked in. The CT currently cost 2x what the tri-motor was promised at. 2) the CT is their newest and best tech. Think about that for a long moment. The CT, which real world gets about 1/3 of the promised...

    Cybertruck is a scam.

This would be a relevant point IF buying and operating a CT was less expensive, more reliable, or just better at something than a $45K crew cab ICE pickup, but they are not. You are paying an absolute premium, for less of everything. Pay an extra $30K-50K up front (could even say, buying 20...

Your point about percent of new truck purchases makes sense from the standpoint that Warner, Hunt, Walmart, etc. all purchase their fleets in other states.

    Cybertruck is a scam.

Tesla has the same batteries as everyone else. They do build light vehicles which helps but in the real world the size of the battery pack is most of what determines your range. Once you understand this reality you understand why the CT, on 35" tires with a 123 kwh battery pack, it going to...

    Turdneau cover

That sharp little nose is my personally favorite design feature of the CT. I think it just looks so cool although reviews say that the visibility still isn't very good. I like frunks, but I wouldn't add 18" of length to gain more of one.
  30. S

    Cybertruck is a scam.

That's a bit misleading. Yes, the energy content is similar but the difference is that an ICE is about 35% efficiency where-as EV's are about 85% efficiency. The result of this is that the driving range of the EV Truck, even with only 4 gallons worth of energy, can make that energy go about as...

In that case buy a 14 year old Mercury sedan driven by old people with 18K original miles for $3.5K and have the most economical and environmental sound motoring possible. They are a dime a dozen.

This article you linked doesn't even cover what we are talking about but instead is specific to the Drayage (Long Beach Port) ban on new diesels being allowed to register and enter the port post 1-1-24. Once again, a dealer has to sell the required percent of EV semis in CA to be allowed to...

Yes, people are just setting up businesses in AZ/ NV/ OR, etc. As long as they can show one trip annually out of the state at this time, they are fine. Also, I know of a guy that is just having his leasing company buy his truck and lease it to him in CA as a work around. CA is a HUGE trucking...

Not in a 2024 motor, unless the selling dealer has available diesel slots, as a result of selling 5% EVs. There are also some partial credits from selling CNG. There is a ratio, like a CNG truck = 2/3 of an EV or something like that. Also, cause the slots are limited, they are going to blow...

I too am in the 'it better be really silent and smooth for >45K', and really this is something EVs should be able to accomplish easily. I know the Lyriq I drove last year both felt and sounded very luxurious, smooth and quiet. I have an F150 Limited and it's the quietest truck that TFC has ever...

    1) Not sure how you are willing to determine if manufacturers are willing to take a wash or not selling EVs? Because of your location I had initially suspected that you worked for KW, and you very well might in development, but not in the sales division. 2) I really have no idea what this...

    Cybertruck is a scam.

Yah, first I don't see many women wanting to drive a CT. I mean it's like how a few women buy Corvettes, but it ain't many. At least a Corvette is sexy and elegant. Secondly, obviously a Crossover or a Minivan is much more economical than a CT but beyond that, soccer moms yearn for Escalades &...

Another very relevant point regarding Tesla EV Semis is this salient point: All of the other manufacturers have to sell EV Semis, so that they can continue on with the money-making portion of their businesses, which is selling diesel trucks and the associated parts. Now I don't have a window...

    Cybertruck is a scam.

There are ICE trucks that make it to a million miles and more, but that doesn't mean it's the standard. Your batteries might make it to 20 years, but most won't. In the diesel trucking world manufacturers talk in B-50 life. B-50 equals the point where 50% have required major repairs and 50%...

    Cybertruck is a scam.

Sounds like steer by wire and 4-wheel steering is amazing. However, neither of those features make up for shortcomings that are more important for a truck, such as range, durable paint finish, repairability, etc.

Exactly. Like I said, just because it was said, doesn't make it completely true or applicable. The reality is that plow trucks have an important function, in the early very cold hours, while getting terrible economy. The EV plow truck just doesn't pass the sniff test in real world conditions.

The truth is that all of the truck manufacturers besides Tesla can produce EV Semis in quantities beyond current demand as all are desperate to sell them, even at huge losses, so that they can continue to sell the allotted number of diesels in CARB states. It's a demand problem, not a supply...

    Turdneau cover

It brings up an interesting point, which is: what happened to all of the real estate on the CT? The battery back isn't very large, and there isn't room to add more in the traditional location as evidenced by the add on pack going in to the bed. The frunk is small. It would appear that a lot of...
