20k miles update on battery / range

Here is a quick update on my now 6 month old Model Y Performance. This graph is generated using Teslafi.com, a logging service that tracks everything the car does. There are thousands of other users so it has data from many other vehicles and allows you to compare. My range is pretty high...

Yes that's the way to go. If you don't want to follow the car's charging stops, just add the superchargers you want manually as waypoints and then tap on 'remove all charging stops'. It will remove all chargers suggested by the car but keep yours. It knows they are superchargers and will...

I grew up in Europe. My dad worked in France for a few years. I honestly don't really understand why. France wasn't very much about going green or progressive. 5 years worth of subscription = buying it

We will see what Tesla decides to do. I had 3 months trial with the car with the old version of FSD and it was so bad I didn't even bother doing the subscription. Basic auto steer with TACC worked fine for me. The new version is far better. I have been testing it for over 2000 miles. I feel like...

NTSB update for Autopilot has me looking for an anti-nag device

The little anti-nag device that goes inside the steering wheel works well with the current version of FSD. Zero steering wheel nags. The only exception are situations where the travel lanes might be changed due to construction or something like that. If the car sees barriers/cones it will demand...

5 years worth of subscription = buying it

Now it's down to $99 a mont for full self driving. That makes buying it outright even less attractive. In fact I would be upset if I had spent $12k on it just 6 months ago when I got my car. That's 10 years of subscription. I assume they will lower the price for buying FSD some time later this...

Is the HEPA filter used all the time?

I have a relatively new Y (Oct 2023) but I have driven 16k miles in it already. Mostly southern states with lots of AC use. No smell whatsoever. I can't speak about older vehicles.
  15. David99

Is the HEPA filter used all the time?

That has been fixed by Tesla via software. The car will run the cabin air fan to dry the filters if needed. I noticed this often when I park my car after driving in it for a while.

I camped at Buc-ee's for the eclipse. Lots of other people had the same idea. It was packed. 2 hours before there all parking spots and the street leading up to it was full. That makes sense. So fresh air goes through the large HEPA, then through the 2 small ones inside.

Do Not Buy “HEPA” Cabin Air Filters for Model 3

Oh that's what this is! I noticed this and was thinking it's an overactive cabin overheat protection. But that makes perfect sense. It basically blows the air filters dry on it's own.
  21. David99

Is the HEPA filter used all the time?

I tried to find some info but I can't find anything definitive. My Oct 2023 Model Y P has the normal cabin air filters in the center foot well. But it also has the large HEPA filters under the hood. As the HEPA filters used all the time or only when I turn on the 'bioweapon defense mode'...

I don't have the original tires any more so I can only measure the ones I have. That means as much as I could accurately measure them, without having an equally accurate measurement of the original tires, I'm not sure how useful it will be. I did some distance measuring on long drives. When I...

    battery drain airport parking

I agree, the obsession with minimizing battery degradation is not necessary. Moderate loss of battery degradation doesn't affect daily driving whatsoever. Even a 10% range loss doesn't make a difference in any but the most extreme situations. What I did find pretty annoying with my old Model S...

Do you normally use "CHILL" mode or "NORMAL" mode with your model Y?

I am trying to find it. I guess it wasn't in the manual, but it was either in a thread here on on their official discord channels. The switch is instand but the power ramps up over some time. The same is true when you change the regen amount. I assume the car does it to avoid a sudden change in...

Do you normally use "CHILL" mode or "NORMAL" mode with your model Y?

I read that in the manual of the S3XY buttons. I believe the car won't allow a sudden switch between power settings.
  27. David99

Do you normally use "CHILL" mode or "NORMAL" mode with your model Y?

If you have the EA S3XY button system, there is a setting where you can drive in Chill mode and when you floor it, it will switch to sport/normal mode. It sounds great, but unfortunately it takes about 3 seconds for the full power to be available. If I need the extra power, a 3 second delay is...
  28. David99

Do you normally use "CHILL" mode or "NORMAL" mode with your model Y?

That' correct. The max power is reduced in Chill mode. It is very noticable if you try to pass another car and floor it and the car just doesn't accelerate as you expect it.
  29. David99

Do you normally use "CHILL" mode or "NORMAL" mode with your model Y?

what data? I understand that people prefer the less aggressive pedal mapping. At with identical acceleration rate or identical speed, the drive train is not more efficient in Chill mode.
  30. David99

Do you normally use "CHILL" mode or "NORMAL" mode with your model Y?

Almost never in Chill. I tested it a little bit and to me it does't make sense. It maps the accelerator pedal differently and limits the max power. I can do the exact same by pressing the accelerator less. The only real difference is what the manual says about the more efficient cabin warming...

Leaving Phone in Car while at work

I have noticed the same thing. It doesn't seem to be consistent. I believe when you entered the car with the phone key and then turn it off in the app, it will not immediately disable and leave you unable to drive. I believe only once you take the phone with you and park the car, it will not...

Windshield wiper controls are the worst about a Tesla

I was sent a survey by Tesla recently and the wipers were actually an item on the list of things you could pick about what you like least about your Tesla. LOL I ended up picking the UI.
