    Satonic Soft Close Frunk

Just an update. I use my front trunk daily. Often multiple times. I have had it in my Model Y for half a year now. No issues at all. 100% reliable.

Suppressing Safety Restraint System Fault errors due to removal of rear seat?

Yes I have a Y. The heated seat element is sown into the fabric. You can't get it out without destroying the seat. Same with the occupancy sensor.

Suppressing Safety Restraint System Fault errors due to removal of rear seat?

That's what I did. I took out the passenger seat completely. It was more work than expected. The seat itself comes out easy. The wire harness connector is under the A-pillar, to the right of the foot well. If you remove the trim pieces it's easy to disconnect. But the car will complain about...

Not much going on on my end. Still busy with work all over the place. For fun I tried to see what the max real distance I can do in my Y. I drove 274 miles in one go using 94% of the battery. Took me 4:30 h. Not fun. Check-ins for 2024-06-12 - Southington, CT (#1966) - Montgomery, PA (#1967)...

my longest drive so far (274 miles)

Michelin Defender2 235/60 - 18. I'm not tire expert, but I tried a number of different ones over the last years with my Teslas. The Defender2 lasts crazy long. I have 26k miles on them now and I hardly see any loss of tread depth. I expect them to last 60 k miles, likely more. They have more...

my longest drive so far (274 miles)

I sold the original wheels right away and replaced them with 18 inch FastEV rims and larger tires. I wanted more comfort and more resistance to potholes. I added a 1.75 inch lift kit to it after taking this photo

my longest drive so far (274 miles)

For the sake of it, I had to try it. I charged to 99% (didn't have the patience to go to 100) and started driving. The car originally predicted 4:06 drive time, but there was a construction that cost me 10 min. I also missed an exit that made me go a bit longer. At the end I arrived at 5%...

    Speed vs efficiency data

I am aware this isn't perfect data by any means. The drives at lower speeds are usually due to traffic and there is likely more acceleration and deceleration than freeway driving. Technically you can definitely get much better efficiency at 30 to 40 mph than this graph represents. There is also...

    Speed vs efficiency data

This is a graph showing the efficiency vs speed driven. It's approx 25k miles of data from my Model Y Performance. 100% efficiency is considered 'rated range'. Basically the energy consumption that would give you the range the car shows. I think the graph is helpful to understand how speed...

Very true. From the start we knew it would only get more and more. Walk away door lock mystery solved

Keeping a key card in the car is similar, except a phone with a disabled key function is safer as the phone is locked. Even if someone were to physically break into your car, they still can't drive it as the phone is locked. I think it's pretty save to keep a phone in the car with the 'phone...

Info from Tesla - 277v feed to Wall Connector (HPWC) - Which Cars Support It

I believe even the very first Model S chargers supported 277 Volt. After all, they were used in the early V1 superchargers. Of course that was never official back then. I doubt we will see this catch on. Pubic L2 chargers are about 50/50 208 Volt vs 240 Volt. I haven't watched the video, just...

Walk away door lock mystery solved

What's the purpose of the feature then? The pairing process is too cumbersome if you have to do it over and over just to disable one phone temporarily. Walk away door lock mystery solved

I can lock the car from my other phone or a key card. It will stay locked even if the phone is inside with 'phone key' disabled. Walk away door lock mystery solved

I had the worst time getting 'walk away lock' to work. In my previous two Model S it worked fine but I was using the key fob. With my Y and using just the phone it just wouldn't work. The car kept warning me the doors are not locked when I parked the car. I doubled check driver profiles and...

Some new data from research on Tesla model 3 cells

I think when Tesla makes official recommendations there are several things they are considering. We tend to assume their recommendation is to optimize battery longevity. That's not their only concern. They want the best user experience as well. For example, we know that, for lowest...
