    HomeLink DIY install

I hope that's true. The service tech at the Tesla SC told me "each homelink module needs to be paired with the car in software before it will work". However, the guy didn't really seem to know what he was talking about so I kinda don't trust that statement very well.

Do you have the right model? Would that old 2018 model work for the Y?

    HomeLink DIY install

Looks like they were able to activate my homelink during my SC appointment!

Yeah I think that makes sense. I'm just mad on principle that they charge you 350 for a stupid part after paying 60k for the car and it can't even open garage doors. Haha either way, 300 is a drop in the bucket, $175 even more so. Relatively speaking.

    HomeLink DIY install

Sure. Valid point. I guess I'm assuming here that if your official Tesla bought/installed module stupid functioning, it's covered under the warranty? The general coverage is 4 years for the car. The accessory coverage is 1 yr ("The Tesla Parts, Body & Paint Repair Limited Warranty begins on the...

    HomeLink DIY install

Is that true? Are they known for failing within 4 or 5 years?

    HomeLink DIY install

Yeah I tried that and the second request they also denied with a passive aggressive comment like "as we told you last time, we can not activate a previously used homelink device from a model 3 into a model Y, we have confirmed with our supervisors" or some BS like that. Anyway, I ended up...

No, you have to find the right SN. It's this one: 1114984-00-B

    HomeLink DIY install

Did you go in for an appointment or just drop in? I've been trying to get an appointment with the Serramonte SC to schedule an appointment and they have pushed me back over 3 times now. It's really frustrating.

That's infuriating. I mean, congrats haha, but I've tried twice to schedule appointments and they cancelled them both saying "we confirmed with management it's just impossible to activate a reinstalled homelink module". I don't even know what to do at this point.

Awesome, thanks! The install was pretty easy. I'm taking it in for service on April 8th. Hope they don't turn me away like they did for my service request . Did you specifically ask for service for this? Or did you go in for something else?

    HomeLink DIY install

Alright awesome. I guess I need to do the windshield wiper excuse. I'm wondering if I can just drive by a SC and ask them if they have 15 minutes to do it real quick. Haha. I don't want to apply for service from the same place that already denied me twice.

Yup. That's where I'm currently stuck.

    HomeLink DIY install

Oh really? Did you order mobile service? Did you just walk into the SC and talk to whoever came up? How did you end up initiating it?

    HomeLink DIY install

Yeah I'm perfectly fine with paying for service. I just don't think it's worth $200 of service, but I'll gladly pay someone if they weren't so adamantly against plugging in a laptop and pressing two buttons.

Homelink Module installation and programming (2021 MYP)

Mine was not detected by my 2022 MYLR. Actually not even the first time I plugged in, like some people mentioned. I reset the UI and remembered that may actually screw things up because it's supposed to be active until the first time you restart (or something). Anyway, no luck for me to have an...

    HomeLink DIY install

Haha ok. I think I'll take your guys' suggestions. I'll bait with the wiper arm adjustment, but I'll definitely also go to a different SC just because I don't want to deal with this one anymore. Well, wish me luck!

    HomeLink DIY install

Haha I hope not. I'm genuinely concerned that they might just be like "sorry we know you've been trying to set up a service request". Is it practical to just drive up to a Tesla store (not a service center). Do they have access to software/diagnostics or is a service center my only option?
  19. S

    HomeLink DIY install

Ooh that's not a bad idea. Yeah I was trying to call out mobile service specifically for this but they kept denying my request. If I call them out for windshield wiper adjustment, would they charge? Would they look at my history and deny my request because they would know I'm calling for this? Haha

    HomeLink DIY install

Oh I'm in California. Bay area. I ordered the part here from Canada so I had to wait a week for it to come. That's really annoying. I don't want to return it and pay 3 times as much for a "new one" and installation fees. I'm hoping to file a service appointment elsewhere by changing my...

    HomeLink DIY install

I did exactly what was outlined in this thread. I under l ordered from Canada, installed it myself, took install pictures. I set up an appointment with my local SC and they said "where did this come from? Another Tesla or someone else?" I said it's from my previous model 3. They replied "sorry...
