Supercharger - Issaquah, WA - Gilman Blvd. (permit Feb 2022, 16 V3 stalls)

Ah, makes sense. Mississauga is only about an hour and a half drive from Buffalo. Mississauga and the greater Toronto area is considerably closer than any other major metro area. Cleveland and Pittsburg are 3+ hours away, NYC is 6 hours away despite being in NY as well 🤣

    Supercharger - Tacoma, WA - S. Hosmer St. (LIVE 20 Apr 2024, 12 V3 stalls)

Yeah, the app is already updated showing that those stalls are out of order. It seems like a lot of new sites get one instance of vandalism and then the local vandals learn that these liquid cooled cables really don't have a ton of copper in them and then leave the site alone. Also really...

Supercharger - Issaquah, WA - Gilman Blvd. (permit Feb 2022, 16 V3 stalls)

Swung by yesterday. Conduit has been laid in that second trench, and the posts / bases are now on site. Otherwise everything looks about the same. The posts are labeled "Ocelot" which is probably the v4 post codename.

Supercharger - Issaquah, WA - Gilman Blvd. (permit Feb 2022, 16 V3 stalls)

Yeah, I wonder if they got in trouble for overdriving the post outputs. The old posts would routinely do 600+ amps output, but just ignoring the rated output and using temperature monitoring. Maybe the NEVI requirements or something required actually disclosing that max current? Here's a v3...

Supercharger - Issaquah, WA - Gilman Blvd. (permit Feb 2022, 16 V3 stalls)

I think v3.5 is shorthand for a v3 cabinet with the hardware upgrade to speak to CCS cars and support plug and charge via adapters. It felt like 60% or more of the WA chargers got upgraded a month or two ago.

Battery/repair replacement Companies in the PNW

These batteries last an extremely long time, especially in the gen 3 cars (3/Y, 2021 S/X). You can expect at least 500k miles from those newer packs. The issues you'll see most commonly with the older packs had to do with some of the power electronics in the pack and not the battery cells...

Supercharger - Snoqualmie Pass, WA - Location Pin

Yeah, the bigger issue with this location is just that it's at a really high altitude. On a drive last summer in my LR Y it only took 8% to get to the Cle Elum supercharger and 1% to get to the North Bend supercharger from that rest stop. I agree that it would be a really convenient location...

Vendor My journey to making a custom sunglass holder for my M3P and Model Y!

Looking at the design I'm assuming this doesn't work with the 2020 and earlier center console design? I imagine it would get in the way of the phone charger door swinging up into the same space this holder occupies, but hopefully someone here knows 🤞

Supercharger - Seattle, WA - 300 NE Northgate Way

Fantastic! This parking structure services target, Best Buy, and Petco. It’s a much more convenient location if you want to get some shopping done. The only bummer is putting the chargers at the top of the parking structure. I’m sure it’s better for ICEing and fire safety, but it’ll take...

Supercharger - Shoreline, WA (Under Construction Aug 2023, 12 V3 stalls)

Yeah, it looks like a real project to get power run over to this location. They need to run power across the street and then fix the paving and sidewalk. I'm guessing we'll see some programmable signs warning of an overnight road closure for a few days before this site has power and a...

    Supercharger - Bothell, WA - 201st Place Southeast (LIVE 21 Mar 2024, 12 V4 stalls)

Was just dealing with this yesterday coming back from Steven’s Pass. I’d highly recommend the CCS adapter. There are a ton of reliable EvGo and EA stations in the Bellevue/Kirkland area that rarely have a wait. I drove past the new Kirkland supercharger yesterday, saw the line, and hit up the EA...

    Washington State EV Infrastructure Funding

Chargepoint charges about $7k for those 2 plug pedestals you see everywhere and $52k for their 62kw dc charger. Insanity prices compared to Tesla's level 2 and 3 costs. It's likely WA buys all chargepoint stuff. They've said it's 4,710 level 2 pedestals and 271 dc fast charging units. That's 33m...

    Washington State EV Infrastructure Funding

Just my 2c, but as a person that just moved from a place with home charging to somewhere without it, I loath free chargers. My local EA station in Cap Hill is absolutely packed 24/7 and most everyone I talk to are people using their 2 years of free charges most automakers are offering. The...

Puget Sound Energy (PSE) - time-of-use pilot

I looked at this and ultimately didn't pull the trigger, since the most discounted rates are only a 5c/kwh discount over base rates, where as peak rates are 10c or 20c/kwh more expensive. You need to be using 2x-4x the power in offpeak times to just be break even with the old rates. By my rough...

Installed and mounted Michelin Defender 2 in the size of 235/60R18. Adding my notes here

Looks like that tire is only about an inch bigger in diameter than the performance 21” wheels and tires, and the perf cars are lowered, so you’ve probably got a half an inch more clearance than the perf tires in reality. The bigger worry I have is going from all the OEM tires at 255 width down...

538 new stations turned on in 2023

I’d love to see stall count as well. Around me it seems like a lot more 12+ stall stations are being opened. I think that’s a more true comparison to the fleet size.

Supercharger - Shoreline, WA (Under Construction Aug 2023, 12 V3 stalls)

Drove by last night and it’s more or less the same. Whatever was covered by that blue tarp is now gone and the big rectangle is still there. Also looks like they were able to fish out the second conduit for all the pedestals, so fingers crossed for v4 🤞

    Supercharger - Wilsonville, OR (LIVE 17 Nov 2023, 8 V4 stalls)

The v4 cables have a nameplate rating of 615kw (615A at 1kv) it’s the same amperage as the existing v3 chargers at a higher voltage, so hopefully it’s a simple upgrade on the cabinet side to feed higher voltage through the same cabling. Its conveniently the exact same voltage and amperage as...

    Supercharger - Burlington, WA - 9400 Old Hwy 99 N. (under construction Nov 2023, 16 V4 stalls)

More capacity never hurt anyone. Besides, even on those v2 superchargers it was everything I could do to scarf down a meal and a beer before the car was done at that restaurant. You only need about 80 miles of range to get most anywhere in the Seattle area from Burlington, so I'd guess the older...

HELP!! We are stranded in Pullman, WA!

The long term solution is most likely going to be power sharing. Put 4-6 or so level 2 chargers on an 80 amp feeder circuit. Same power requirements as 1 charger, but no need to have everyone get up in the middle of the day/night to swap their cars. One spot gets ICED? Once spot gets...

How pervasive is the HVAC “smell” issue in the PNW?

I park my Y outside 24/7 and had the stinky heat issue once it started getting humid. Getting new OEM filters eliminated 99% of the odor. First thing on a damp morning I'll get a little whiff, but it goes away almost immediately. The OEM filters have a sanitizer added a few years ago, since the...

    Supercharger - Kirkland, WA (LIVE 7 Dec 2023, 12 V3 stalls)

In my experience, compact is one of two things around Seattle: 1. A description of the length. Same width as other spots. 2. A legal requirement for a certain number of spots in a lot to be for "compact cars only" but the spots are identical to all the other spots in a lot.

Nice! I just wrapped up a 101 road trip this summer and this charger reduces a huge gap of 250kw chargers down the 101. There was a 447 mile stretch from Newport OR to Ft. Bragg CA with only v2 chargers. This charger shrinks that gap down to 350 miles! We felt that v3 gap hard and Eureka was...

When did you last touch your brake pedal?

My Y has the option to blend braking in when regen is limited. It's really nice having a consistent brake feel even after being parked outside all night in the winter, but it does mean that almost daily the car is doing a little bit of mechanical braking for me under full regen. It was a...

    Supercharger - Quincy, WA

Not only are they low usage superchargers, but they're really bad holes in the CCS network. Driving from Seattle to Spokane you really have to stop in Ellensburg and there's a really small EA charger that's often full in that location. The next v3 location that Tesla really trounces the CSS...

Help evaluating a 2014 MS 85 with 68k miles and advert says "free lifetime supercharge"

I'd recommend watching Rich Rebuild's video on inspecting a used Tesla. Saved us a bunch of worry buying our 2014 S. That price is a little high for that car, but in the right ballpark. Is the car keeping my garage warm?

When your Tesla is charging it tries to keep the battery at 80f for minimal wear. It's less about the thermal mass, but the fact that it's keeping the battery warm for many hours while it's charging. In the winter we'll notice our garage will be a little warm in the morning even though the car...

Is the car keeping my garage warm?

This is mostly true, but to understand how the AC system lets the car run purely off of the AC inverter you need to understand a bit about how batteries charge. In order to charge or discharge a battery, you need to change the voltage of the system. You can draw a huge amount of current/amps...

Comparing cost per mile using total energy from trip screen metrics vs wall charger metrics and compared with ICE

Loggers like TeslaFi will capture the energy used/added for every charge session. Below are my 2022 metrics for an S85 that isn’t particularly efficient at charging and phantom drains like crazy. 4666 kwh used for 6610 kWh pulled from the wall. Since TeslaFi measures charge efficiency we can...

    2017 Model S vs 2020 Model 3

You mentioned the S windows whistle. We had that issue too and it's about a $20 fix per window at the service center. The windows come out of alignment over time and need to be realigned. Took the service person all of 10 minutes to do both and now it's way quieter inside our S.
