2 hrs? Ugghh, that makes it their process a bit more inconvenient. At least with a VIN, you know there exists a car for you. And I agree, it's probably on their lot. There's a pretty direct rail line from Fremont to northern Illinois, it can't take too long to get there.
The wait is painful...
They delivered to me on a Sunday, but every state is different. If they want to get a car off their lot, they'll get it to you.
Regarding the insurance, I just uploaded a photo of my insurance card on my previous car. State Farm (in California at least) covers a new car for a bit. Once I got...
I'm still checking it 10 times a day, and I have the car! Old habits die hard.
In the end, there was never anything useful in the app regarding delivery. The dates pushed out and in, adjust and shifted, but delivery was a text message.
I'll have to second that "violently fast" comment. At a highway metering light into a straight on-ramp, I can make myself dizzy. My vision starts to blur. It takes me a couple minutes to catch my breath. The 0-60 has to be way better than 3 second.
Also, yes to matrix headlights on 242XXX
I was told the same when I ordered about delivery, which is what makes me think they are trying to get cars off the lot. If you're in San Jose, you can't be that far away.
BTW, there were two guys. It seemed like one was being trained.
The last few days were bizarre. Pushed out, told it'd be...
Monday. EDD 4/28-5/2
Friday. EDD 5/1-5/5
Saturday. Delivery scheduled for 5/3
Sunday, 130pm. Your car is ready now, do you want us to deliver it today?
Uhhhh. Yes. Please.
And when I got home from the kid's soccer game at 330pm, there was a blue M3P in my driveway.
(Text from the wife...
Well, well, well...maybe they do actually make cars.
Got a delivery text today. (!!) They are dropping it off at my house on the 3rd. (!!!) After all the other delays and pushes, I was shocked to get the text. I wasn't given any delivery options, just told it'll be outside my house on Tuesday...
Seeing a couple of you with ODs close to mine (early/mid February), no VIN yet, and long/pushed EDDs is making me very nervous that they overcommitted on their last VIN push. It seemed like they had cleared a bottleneck last weekend, but something doesn't add up.
I'm guessing that Elon somehow...
EDD Update
VIN 4/26
Prev EDD (4/26) 04/28-05/02
New EDD (4/29) 05/01-05/05
Yet again, one day inside my window and they push...even though the car is built. I'm guessing they're busy tossing charging ports / chargers on all the cars getting loaded on trucks to headed to the East Coast?
Woah, that's crazy. I don't care where I pick up the car, but if they push it out another three weeks, I'm going to flip my lid.
But, more evidence that they are missing something that can be "installed" outside the factory. It sounds like they have to start sending cars just to get them out...
Yeah, it's all starting to add up.
I called today to get a status update. My VIN is fully built and out of the factory, but needs to finish "final inspection" and preparation for delivery. Even though the car is built, my delivery window opened today, and I live in Fremont...the SA said it'll...
Well, I've now entered the first day of my *delivery* window, and still have heard nothing from Tesla. I called the store where I ordered, and they said "We'll call you". Why do I feel like she's not interested in me?
My guess is Elon told them to leave it in south Oakland, send me the GPS...
Funny, I still don't have an email or text. And my delivery window opens tomorrow. I guess since Elon hates me, they have to be all secret about it. These guys, I swear...
That's a bummer, sorry to hear it.
It sounds a bit like what February orders went through in early April. They are waiting for the next plane load of whatever part is missing to ship the next batch of 5000 cars.
That chart is quite stunning, really. I could come up with reasons for small changes due to the data source, but that percentage drop is shocking.
Maybe it's just the price of gas pulling forward lots of folks who were on the fence.
WHY IS MY INSURANCE AGENT NOT IN THE OFFICE AT 6AM!?
VIN 04/26 242XXX
EDD 04/28-05/02
I think the goat sacrifice last night finally appeased Elon's rage.
There must have been some small part that was needed to finish a few thousand cars.
Super stoked for you all getting VINs. No way I'm getting any sleep tonight hitting refresh every 10 minutes.
Do I need to buy some type of premium Twitter profile to make Elon hate me less?
Yeah, when I saw your EDD, I thought it seemed too far out to be just the transit time. Figured my delivery would be push.
I'd say we could predict your delivery based on when mine settles, but Elon hates me, so you'll get yours first. 🤣
One day inside my window (again), so pushed again.

Sigh.
Yeah, if it was just delivery...I drive by the factory many times a week!! Four time today, in fact. Just let me have one, please. Lol.
Do they assemble chargers in Shanghai?
I've watched inventory in the lot fill and empty, so they are building and delivering *something*.
Same here, pickup at factory was the only option. I kinda liked the idea. There's a showroom at the factory.
Unfortunately I don't think they let you drive it off the line, but I might try if they don't assign a VIN soon. 😏
Also, +1 on February 14.
Side note: the lot was very full this...
I had my daughter take a video (or, as she calls it, like a tiktok, just longer).
Looking closely, sure enough, there's one window with a light on, a silhouette of a man, bare backside pressed against the glass, letting me know that I'm #1.
I ordered three weeks earlier and am sitting with the same delivery window. 🙄 Let's hope they are prepping to roll a fleet of cars out to the Bay Area. But, then again, Elon hates me.
I drove past the factory a couple nights ago, there were cars being loaded but the lot looked lean.
No EDD change for me yet, but my window opens in four days...and since Elon hates me, they'll wait until two days after to push out four more weeks.
If it wasn't for the earnings call, I'd expect him to show up at my house, punch me in the stomach, and say "No car for you, four weeks."...
True that. No good news is better than plaid bad news...I guess? But the two week window no longer seems as encouraging as it once was.
There has to be something the supply chain that is just about to arrive. Lots of two week windows, small adjustments to deliveries, texts about trade-ins...
I drove past the Fremont plant late last night. The parking lot was a little less full than usual, but there were cars being loaded on trucks. It's tough to say the breakdown of M3, MY, MS at midnight while doing 70, but there's *something* being delivered.
That would explain why he keeps driving past my house in a blue M3P, yelling obscenities, and then peeling out.
Seriously, though, there have been maybe 3 VINs in April so far. They must be missing some key part ... mobile chargers, maybe?
For y'all that think California folks get cars delivered on demand...lol.
