We cancelled the insurance after rejecting the car. The loan is more complicated as we were told Tesla takes three weeks to refund the loan payment to lender - hence the suggestion of leaving it open.

My VIN was assigned 5/20, service center said the car will arrive in Houston in 6/1, picking up 6/4.

Picking up 6/4 and I pulled the trigger on 5/26. May be a bit earlier than needed but given the long weekend and busy week before pickup I want to be on the safe side. Tesla did confirm all in place document-wise within a day so if you want to cut it closer you can.
