    Music choices without premium connectivity

I vote for singing in the car. If you can afford it, I would highly recommend a musician that plays the digeridoo in the backseat.

What is this thing that looks like a huge key?

It’s the dipstick. I’m a little surprised there is no Tesla Winch attachment.

Tesla uses 1/6 the energy compared to gasoline

Possibly the most cost and space efficient energy generation will be solar and nuclear in the near future.

    Air Suspension

There are aftermarket air suspension kits for the model Y if you want to add it. I think most people would do it for a lower stance though instead of smoother ride. I wonder if there is a lift kit for the MY for off-roading. Imagine being able to hop curbs and boulders. That said, the suspension...

Having owned a Model Y would you consider the F-150 lightening

I definitely agree with the “beater” truck concept. If Tesla builds the cyber truck to where I can hose out the inside and outside and it costs about $30k new, that’s a great utility vehicle.

Having owned a Model Y would you consider the F-150 lightening

The F-150 with the larger battery is a compelling sell but it’s completely different from a Model Y which is a crossover. Trucks are more utility vehicles and the conveniences of the F-150 Iightning make it pretty compelling. I like the power frunk, the outlets, and the liftgate additions. The...

    Autopilot Utility

Good point. There is no recognition for debris from what I’ve seen. I have seen a few YouTube videos where if you are about to get hit by another vehicle, the alarm will sound. I wonder if FSD has enough processing power to take evasive maneuvers within the time limit.

    MY Auto doors (Aftermarket)

Oh, the other cool thing is that it can be used for all the doors including the rear doors. I just want sliding doors but those are an extremely heavy mod.

    MY Auto doors (Aftermarket)

The upgraded version will have extra dignity 😂

    MY Auto doors (Aftermarket)

I’ve seen the auto presenting and the auto opening door modifications for the Y but they are both from Hansshow. It’s pretty neat but are potentially problematic for warranty repairs. Link is below. https://www.hautopart.com/products/model-3-y-auto-presenting-doors

    Autopilot Utility

AP is essentially glorified cruise control. It’s useful because you can use it to reduce fatigue and heighten awareness. For longer trips it is definitely useful but I’m also the type to not trust a device to not fail. I’m actively engaged in operating the vehicle to essentially “babysit” AP for...

    MYP - April/May OD July/September EDD

I think the dash trim goes to the door and the side panel is gray alcantara vs vegan leather. It’s probably another efficiency booster because if all the doors are made the same way, it reduces errors and raises productivity.

    First Impressions: Model Y Performance

Lol, I can definitely relate to this. Originally it was the Mercedes SEL for my family but then Minivans came out and we started doing custom minivan rears to fit more people more comfortably. Back at this time, we had more rear leg room than a Maybach with more luxury amenities. If I could ride...

Specific question about 2022 MYP & Xpel window tint!

Honestly speaking, it’s hard for a consumer to match color and tint a lot of times. I just went to my Xpel installer and said “do what you do best” and told them that as I get older, I can’t see through really dark tints that well at night. They are currently doing the install and using XR Plus...

One thing you LOVE and DISLIKE about your Model Y

Just got mine so not too much experience yet. Love: almost everything about the vehicle. It’s a good starting place. I just really want a Tesla minivan. It’s convenient, it’s pretty automated, and it fits my use profile. Hate: here’s the list so far: 1. Wireless phone charger sucks. Just...

    Georgia/Atlanta Waiting Room

Took Delivery yesterday afternoon. F519 still has old doors with the white siding. Everything looks good. It’s taking a while to calibrate but so far so good. Oh also came with mobile charger with 5-15 plug and a J1772 adaptor.

Pickup scheduled for 8/20 from Roswell. I’m definitely going to tint so the cabin can be nice and cool.
  22. W

    DIY Supercharger

Yes, I agree. It’s not too difficult to set up a home solar array to use within the home. The capex for such a project is normally in the $20-30k range for the industrial equipment although sometimes less. Things get more dangerous when dealing with high voltage DC. It would be interesting to...
  23. W

    DIY Supercharger

Yes, I’ve set up solar arrays before (and got shocked once =} ). It’s actually not too expensive and I get supplied industrial grade gear from China. I normally use lead acid batteries for small scale arrays and the Chinese have a Li-ion battery/inverter/controller wall unit that makes wiring...

    MYP - April/May OD July/September EDD

Ok schedule for 8/20 delivery. Just have to make it one more week on gas. Is it crazy that I’m looking at the v4 solar panels?
  25. W

    DIY Supercharger

Lol, you’re going to crack up when you hear this. I’m 2 miles from a Supercharger. It’s not really about range anxiety because I know a supercharger is always close by. Glad to know another fellow GA Tesla owner. It’s just to see if I can build a DC charger to get energy from solar or off-peak...

    DIY Supercharger

Yeah, I’m a bit of a tinkerer so it’s more about the journey than the destination. It’s not about the cost but rather if it’s possible to DIY one. I’ve done lots of Arduino projects before and they all end up being more expensive than off the shelf. I’m just looking to get a deeper understanding...

    MYP - April/May OD July/September EDD

Typical answer that is ambiguous enough for customer service. I picture myself driving the distance and think I could probably manage a week or so with lots of breaks. If they have other deliveries en route, it would probably take another 4-5 days between. I’m excited to get delivery in the SE.
  28. W

    MYP - April/May OD July/September EDD

So my delivery date is supposed to be August 17-20. I’m just waiting for communication to get it done. How long does it take for vehicles to get from Fremont to GA? I’m guessing a week or so.
  29. W

    DIY Supercharger

So yes, I was thinking of doing this without 3 phase power from the line and using AC to DC to charge battery cells and then use a DC battery dump directly into the vehicle with a manager in between. This way, whenever I’m not charging the vehicle, it can charge the batteries using single phase...
  30. W

    DIY Supercharger

Ah good point. It’s just a curiosity to see if one can be DIYed. So most likely, I would have to find a way to store more energy and then dump it at 250kW. I figure since the vehicle is about 75kWh, you just need to store about that much or about 100kWh of energy to dump it into the vehicle...
  31. W

    DIY Supercharger

So anyone know if it’s feasible to DIY a supercharger at home? From what I gather, you need an AC to DC converter, a load manager, a battery power source like a power wall, and an adapter for the Tesla. I’m thinking it can be used sporadically after charging up an energy storage device and then...

    removing MY side mirrors

Nice tip. Is there a lot of magnification on the Suma ones? I love wide view mirrors.
  34. W

    removing MY side mirrors

That reminds me, do the side view mirrors point down automatically when backing up? That’s one feature I liked on some of the cars I’ve driven. I used to think I could drive vehicles without side view mirrors before but I use them often for backing up and lane changes. I can do without the rear...

    Georgia/Atlanta Waiting Room

I just got updated to 8/10-8/21. No VIN yet. Awaiting patiently as I fill up with gas. Can’t wait to not not use gas anymore.
  36. W

    MYP - April/May OD July/September EDD

Mine just shifted to 8/8-8/21. With the new energy tax credit thing, it will be interesting to see how that goes.
  37. W

    removing MY side mirrors

The biggest issue of not having side view mirrors is the blind spot caused by the C pillar. It’s why having something stick off the car is necessary. A side view mirror is the easiest way to achieve visibility. It’s also real-time and requires no power. The back of the MY is pretty bad in terms...

    MYP - April/May OD July/September EDD

Still no 2 week window for me. I’m going on vacation and dealing with it later. Window is still July 28 - August 24. Correction…. Just changed to August 8 - August 22. Hurray, I’ll be back to get it.

Petition for Tesla to replace CCS as standard in US

Very true. Most likely, they are along for the ride. I do wonder if Tesla would adopt CCS1 for the US market for the vehicles or if they will keep their TPC.
  41. W

Petition for Tesla to replace CCS as standard in US

So what’s interesting about CCS1 and CCS2 is that Tesla is part of the consortium that formed the standard. If you add that to Tesla’s All Our Patents Are Belong To You in 2014 they are essentially saying that even if you don’t take the patents, they are trying to help the rest of the EV...
  42. W

Petition for Tesla to replace CCS as standard in US

The problem with the CCS1 and CCS2 plugs is that they are too big and heavy. What ends up happening with the plug is that the top latch gets loose over time and puts extra stress on the DC charge ports which can eventually cause damage on the vehicle. Add this to potentially loose connectors and...

Petition for Tesla to replace CCS as standard in US

One of the things I don’t understand in terms of J1772, Chademo, CCS1, and CCS2 was why they adopted a separate 2 DC terminals instead of using the existing locations of their Line 1 and Neutral in the J1772 design. Was it due to insufficient wiring for J1772 or did they want to phase out single...

Petition for Tesla to replace CCS as standard in US

Apologies, I was generalizing. Yes, I realize that the super chargers have a switchboard and a separate cabinet for managing multiple charging stations. It’s a better system than what EA have been using and other systems which have built in screens as well as no centralized load balancing. The...

Petition for Tesla to replace CCS as standard in US

I signed the petition because it would support a standardization that would be mechanically and electrically sound. If Tesla supplies the specs and schematics for their charger, we would at least have lighter weight and cheaper chargers which would help with EV adoption.

Yes, back in April I filled it out and then I filled in another form 2 days ago which I now see.

    MYP - April/May OD July/September EDD

That’s odd. I thought I entered mine in that list. Strange how I don’t see the entry.

Hyundai vs. Tesla | Why Hyundai Poses the Biggest EV Threat

Even though EV growth has been large worldwide, the numbers stated by BYD were misleading because if they only sold 10% of Tesla’s sales, it means that for the larger population in China, it’s pretty weak. The point is to get more EVs sold worldwide to bring down unit cost. Until we get more...

Hyundai vs. Tesla | Why Hyundai Poses the Biggest EV Threat

So I guess I’ll bring BYD into the conversation as well since they sold 53,349 BEVs so far this year. They also sell plug-in hybrids too but they can produce traditional frames for a fraction of the cost since they bought a failing car manufacturer in China in a fire sale. Compared to Tesla...
