Nice I have mine setup to be mostly self powered except when I run low or when I plug in a car. With the charging limited to free times makes it easier to decrease my grid usage.

I wish I knew how to create apps myself. All I want is an app with a nice UI that could pull in all my stuff from Tesla app, Span Panel, & HomeKit. Keep it all organized and in one place. I know I can hack it all into HomeKit or HA but that just always feels half baked.

I had a X3M from BMW of the Woodlands and I had a few issues (ambient light not even, sunroof squeak) and every time I came in for issues or an oil change I dropped my keys they put me in something nice and I would come back later and get my car. Tesla service has been a huge downgrade for me...

Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

Agreed. I would love another BMW but the choices are massive grill or tiny grill and they have lost that BMW look I loved so much. PowerShare on a model Y would definitely bring Tesla back into the fold for me. I’m surprised that it’s taken so long for Tesla to implement PowerShare. Since I...

Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

Yeah my reason is I only went with Tesla because they were so far ahead in range and battery tech and at the time the vehicles seemed to hold their value. After losing over 60k in value in just two years and numerous problems I was already debating not getting another. Now that Elon is cutting...

Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

Hmmm I’m sure this plan works for some people but the idea of losing my free nights plus having to pay Tesla 30/mo just for car charging doesn’t make sense for me. Until they give true free nights for free they have missed me. Also given I am most likely not going to buy another Tesla makes...

Haha Just Energy is so hard to beat. Especially now knowing this!

Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

🤣 I lean common sense so I am pretty sure I piss off most myself haha 🤣 it’s always in good fun though. Also not the web app now only notifies me when I am @ed but not for posts on this thread no matter my setting. Ugh

Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

So far it’s working perfectly! One question, does this only work when it’s a Tesla on my account plugged in? Or does it work if any Tesla plugs into my wall connector? Haven’t tested that part yet.

Oh the update to the Netzero app is the one I have been waiting for! I always wished I was able to stay on self powered but then when I would charge my car I would drain my batteries. Now I can setup automations based on my charging and powerwall percentage. This app is giving me everything I...

For those that financed your system through Tesla, is this new? I don’t remember the financing option for solar being in app before. Do not see it in my previous screenshots either.

Ironically even though both my wall ovens and my microwave both have WiFi only my microwave will reset its own time. Samsung and their lovely appliance fragmentation… 😂
  13. DrewHou

Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

Yeah I haven’t had that happen from a firmware update but when the grid goes down my house house drops power before the powerwalls kick in. Doesn’t matter if I was already on the powerwall or not. Which is frustrating because my oven clock has to be reset haha.
  14. DrewHou

Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

Yep mine is pretty much the same except throw in limestone to the mix for my upstairs and downstairs. The house is basically made out of everything haha. My thought is maybe building an outdoor kitchen someday and having them attach the powerwalls to the back wall of that. That won’t be anytime...

Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

That makes perfect sense. I figured there was something I wasn’t fully understanding. So if there is an air gap it would pull the brick layer inward and potentially collapse when they tighten it down. I don’t understand why the city forbids garage installs now. Just seems silly for no reason...
  17. DrewHou

Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

Yeah they were like we can accommodate that spot but since your brick is not fully brick it won’t support the weight of the powerwalls. I’m like hmm but couldn’t the screws or whatever go through the brick and into the wood studs? Maybe I am missing something though. I am almost tempted to find...
  18. DrewHou

Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

So maybe someone can explain this to me. Tesla said they can not wall mount powerwalls on my brick because the whole home is not fully brick. However behind that brick is the same studs in the garage that my existing powerwalls are attached to. Why would brick be less secure than drywall...

Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

Cool good to know they are telling me the truth. You never know with Tesla 😂 Also brining up my reserve to 80% they talking about hail and storms so figured bring up my backup reserve until it passes.

Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

Quick question for everyone that is on free nights and not using any grid power during peak. When you go to impact under time of use are you seeing grid usage listed there even when you have not used the grid during peak? Tesla has been telling me since June of last year that it’s a known...

Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

Yep after changing it manually for a couple of nights it tends to learn. Seems to be a common experience but I don’t know why it’s this way.
  22. DrewHou

Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

For me at the time there was a longer contract on just energy for the green free nights. I wanted to lock it in for as long as possible.

Also is this Tesla Assist beta thing new? It doesn’t work very well 😂
  24. DrewHou

Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

Yeah the main thing that I like is it’s easy to switch between specific products. The hassle has been when you share a location from phone to car the phone sends it to the last car you had on the screen. So swiping to my solar meant 90% of the time the last car on the screen was the Model 3 and...

Oh just opened my Tesla app and apparently they switched up the UI on the server side. No app update but all new navigation.
  26. DrewHou

Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

Oh dayum this is a big one! The Netzero app just got an update that adds automation of the powerwall controls. This is huge to make rules and schedules in an easy way! This app just keeps getting better!

Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

I just keep telling myself but charging my car with my 50k dollar solar system instead of gas makes it better 😂 I definitely haven’t saved me any money at all but it’s cool, I like it, and better for the environment. However when people ask me how much money I save I have to temper their...

Just a few grand less than my S with 12k miles on it. Even worse I’m sure if I told them it had been wrecked 😂
  29. DrewHou

Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

Must be nice hahaha according to Tesla my Model S has lost 60k in value in just 2 years matter of fact my BMW X3M that I traded in is at this very moment two years later worth more than my current Model S 😂 If it wasn’t for FSDb I would be in another EV in a second flat. If tomorrow Porsche...

Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

I am not sure if this additional data point helps or not but here you can see last years full data being on free nights how much my powerwalls charged/discharged. So even with a lot of time spent fully charged there is still a lot of action happening.
  31. DrewHou

Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

Also, I don’t remember where I read or heard this but my understanding is that even when the powerwalls show 100% in the app it’s really not. Tesla added a bit of a reserve in order to be able to protect the battery. I tend to believe it since when storm watch kicks in my span panel reports...

Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

I’m probably the worst one to take advice on this because I believe in don’t worry about how you use something just use it however fits you best and if it doesn’t last then replace it. I worry about my powerwalls the same as my cars. I charge it when and how I want and if it doesn’t last well I...

Also just checked and Tesla electric updated to show pretty much the entire year for me. Looks like not a single month would I have been free. So for my setup and usage patterns and 2 EVs. 1 year Just Energy free nights 100% green = ~$100 credit 1 year Tesla Energy = $1,053.73 (doesn’t...
  34. DrewHou

Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

Yeah I had a great day however still down compared from last month by about 18%. I love that the span app gives me these stats but what I really wish either Span or Tesla would add would be a way to see these stats against the same time last year. Hopefully now that the API is available someone...

Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

So I have a completely uneducated but hopeful opinion on my updates… my model 3 is on standard updates and no FSDb and it gets updates pretty fast and currently on 2024.2.3 however my S on FSDb on advanced updates hasn’t seen an update in a while and still on 2023.44.30.8 so I am hoping I’m not...

Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

Matter of fact here’s the legacy loaner drivers door electrical tape handle 😂 because the problem was the handle on the drivers door didn’t present but if you could pull on it it would open haha. Spent several weeks paying for a 120k car but driving this instead hahaha Just found what it was a...

Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

Wow yeah on my very first drive after delivery I kept getting speed limited to 111mph then it would keep dropping until I would turn the car off and back on. Tesla kept telling me I must be setting a limit but finally I got them to schedule it to bring it in and they realized the front drive...

Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

Hey, yeah I can’t win for losing with my S but this is nothing compared to the last one 😂 this car has had bad mojo since the beginning when it was delivered with a bad drive unit.
  41. DrewHou

Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

Yeah when it says inverter I think it really means Powerwall 😂 I could be wrong though.
  42. DrewHou

Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

Yeah if you go to the solar settings then WiFi it should show powerwall and wall connector there. Otherwise it doesn’t show up much… oh or you can look under “my home info” in settings and should show there.

  44. DrewHou

Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

Maybe I will go back and see about it then. Because my camera at home shows I left in one piece and I FSDb the whole way and I would have felt hitting something that would have done that especially being on FSDb I am always watching closely 😂
  45. DrewHou

Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

Yeah sentry mode didn’t catch anything. There was one of those flat bed carts nearby loose and if I had to guess that did it but I have no way of knowing. I like the bondo idea and then wrapping it though. I keep saying I am going to trade this S in for a Y performance and things like this...

Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

Also off topic but man my Model S has the worst luck EVER! I come out of Home Depot and what do I see a hole in my side skirt of my car. Does anyone even know what this part is called on a Tesla? Going to see if I can’t fix this one myself haha.
  47. DrewHou

Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

Yeah I like JE sometimes the billing doesn’t make sense as we’ve discussed on this forum before but it always shakes out to be in my favor haha. Like @Jones1 said it sucks you can not cash out but I look at my credit as insurance if my powerwalls go down and Tesla takes forever to get out here. 😂
  48. DrewHou

Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

I work fully remote so it fluctuates but on average I’m using about 300-500 kWh a month in EV charging for 2 cars. M3 we put about 13k miles a year on and MS about 6k miles a year for some reference. I will say I wish I would have had them install two wall connectors instead of one though...

Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

Yep there are perks and disadvantages to being in the city limits but this one real sucks. This is the perfect example of buy more powerwalls when you first install than you THINK you want 😂 oh well it was definitely a want more than a need.
